The sky was still dark as ever, yet dawn was approaching in the distance. Things were very slowly getting lighter, though not as fast as some would wish. For Seriti, this was the best time of all to be up and about. She loved the darkness, yet not if it was fully dark. The slight light in the distance was very beautiful. Her mostly black pelt made it hard to see her unless others new what to look for. Her gray eyes scanned the open dark land for any amusement. It was hard to get amusement at this time, but every day she always looked.
Always looked for another hyena to run up behind and scare for the fun of it, or trick them in some other aspects. She wasn't mean, at least not in her eyes. They just needed to lighten up if they took it bad. Surprisingly, she hasn't had any real problems yet. No one had tried to attack her for doing it, just kinda ranted at her, and then shrugged it off. Which was the most amusing part of all. Seeing their angry faces. Of course, with this, Seriti didn't have very many friends. Other's saw her as childish, and irresponsible.
She yawned at the fact that she was slowly become bored with the situation. No one was around! With that, she flopped to the ground and started to roll in the dirt. It was an open space, hardly anything to get in the way, and yet... some how she lands on the only rock for miles. "Ouch!" She replied as she rolled off the rock. Glaring at it as she sat up. How dare it get in her way! Of course, now she wouldn't be able to sneak up on anyone if they were close to her. Oh phewie.

Trudge, trudge, trudge. Staring gloomily at his feet (invisible in the darkness though they were), the young hyena marched onward. He had been woken in the night by the sound of lions roaring nearby and decided to keep moving until daybreak. Then he would take a rest, and gather his strength to continue his quest. Somewhere out there was the perfect female hyena, and Kepo was going to find her.
The sudden yelp of pain from somewhere off to the side startled him, making him jump. It was no annoying lion though - that was the sound of another hyena. Full of righteous indignation at some stupid hyena lurking in the darkness to startle him, Kepo stomped over towards the source of the sound. 'Caution' was not a concept overly familiar to him. "Hey," Kepo said irritably, squinting around for the hyena. There was a shape, but it was difficult to see such a dark hyena in such low light. "What are you doing making noise? Normal decent people are supposed to be asleep!" Completely disregarding the fact that he himself was awake and traveling.

She almost jumped when she heard a voice, but she hesitated. If she jumped, then it'd be what she normally did to others, she couldn't allow that. She snorted at his remark. "So, that makes you not normal or decent as well." She said in a almost snotty response. Ignoring his question entirely. It wasn't like she needed to tell him why she made the noise. In all honestly, the moment he spoke, she forgot exactly why she had spoken... Or what she had spoken. Was that bad? She shrugged it out of her mind.
With that, she stood up and shook off the dirt that had gathered on her fur. Not that she could see it, or anyone else for that matter.. But she had to look her best for anyone that came around. Especially if it was another hyena, like he smelled like. "Shouldn't you be more respectable to a female?" She asked him. She raised an eye brow, then squinted her eyes to try to see him. He was just as dark as she, as far as she could tell. Though, it was slightly lighter then a moment ago when she was bye herself. She hadn't noticed the difference. In an hour or so, it'd be light enough for both of them to see each other, that much she knew.

It was a good thing the female couldn't see Kepo's scowl, because it was positively murderous. He was silent for a moment while he wrestled it under control. "It's hard to tell you're a female when I can barely see you," Kepo said, fighting to keep the irritation from his voice. He ignored the comment about him not being normal or decent. He was just an innocent traveler, victim of circumstance, while she was some kind of idiot. How had she managed to hurt herself flopping around in the dirt, anyways?!
For all that the strange hyena was likely as dumb as the rock she had somehow fallen on, she was female. And she seemed a bit bossy as well, which pleased Kepo. Ruthlessly crushing his own annoyance, Kepo straightened up a bit, trying to look as attractive as possible even though she couldn't see him. "I'm Kepo," he announced. "My mom and my aunt are queens. I am much smarter and more attractive than other males. I wouldn't have to tell you that if there was any daylight." This last sentence was a bit accusing. "I am sure that you are a very beautiful female." Kepo didn't mess around when it came to flirting.

She raised a eyebrow. This male was quite strange, he seemed to be angry at her, then instantly changed his mood. She had tried that once, but it didn't fully work. A smirk came to her. "So what's that make you? A prince?" Not that it matters to her. "Prince of what?" She demanded. If he was fooling her, he wouldn't be able to answer her that. She'd been a rogue all her life, but she had heard of packs of creatures such as hyena's getting together and living peacefully. Of course, she'd never actually seen one up in person. Which, she decided was probably something she was going to have to do.
"Do you always try to flatter females you just meet?" It was a trick question, but she wanted to see how smooth he really was. Of course, she'd run into some smooth charmer hyena's in the past. She never gave them a bat of the eye then. But for the moment, she was bored, and she wanted to a bit of entertainment. He seemed interesting enough to give a small bit of her time. She heard his name, but didn't speak her own yet. She wanted to see if what he said was true or not first. Or at least as true as she could detect.

Kepo was starting to find this female both stupid and unpleasant, but that didn't mean he was going to skulk off. Maybe her unpleasantness was just bossiness, which Kepo liked. Maybe she would be a good hyena to bring home after all.
Maybe.
It was difficult to talk to this female without scorn, but Kepo made a valiant effort. Maybe she had been raised by males, or something. Maybe that was why she didn't know how to behave, or how normal people lived. "I'm not a prince of anything," Kepo said. "But I'm the first born of my mom and aunt's sons, so I'm the best one." He drew himself up a little further, feeling very proud. Ha! Princes! As though a male could hold a rank like that. This female truly knew nothing.
Her next question was a bit of a puzzle. "Of course I flatter females. That's what males are supposed to do. You don't want me to call you ugly."

How couldn't he be a prince if his mother and aunt where queens. That part confused her, but she didn't press it. He was lying, but she could play that game to. She smirked even bigger, knowing that he couldn't see her doing that. She wondered what she could do to him to make him pay for his lies to try to get females.
She changed her attitude a bit, it was time for a little seduction game of her own. "Oh? The best you say?" She asked, her voice more sweet now. "I bet you're the most handsome too." She added, no sarcasm in her voice. Though, it was really hard to not add any. She so wanted to. "Well, I suppose no female likes being called ugly, but you have to really mean those flattering words to make them work." She batted her eyes a bit.
Of course they were useless jesters at the moment, the sun was slowly coming up, but it was still pretty dark. You could see light in the distance, and things were slowly being able to see. She could see him better, but still hard to make out where his eyes and nose where, and she couldn't tell if he had any type of markings at all.

"I am the most handsome," Kepo said matter-of-factly. "I look like my aunt Dikeledi, and she's probably the most beautiful hyena in the world." Another matter-of-fact statement. "I haven't seen you yet so I can't really compare," he added generously. Of course, no one would ever surpass Dikeledi's beauty in his mind, but he would find a female that at least was pleasant to the eyes. He could barely make out this still-nameless female, but he thought she was plain, which pleased him. Dikeledi-ish stripes were good, but few could pull them off. Nice plain pelts were second-best, as long as they weren't in some garish shade.
Kepo's earlier irritation was beginning to wear off. This female was a little weird, a little dopey, and a little clueless, but she was bossy. He liked that. Even if she wasn't the female of his dreams, at least he could get some experience in talking to ladies. All of the females he had met outside of his home were woefully weird and difficult to understand. "I say what I mean," Kepo said, referring to her comment about flattery. "Maybe saying you were beautiful was an exaggeration since I haven't seen you yet, but you look good so far. If I thought you were ugly I wouldn't say anything at all." He squinted into the darkness. She was black, or some dark shade. Well, as long as she wasn't blue, he would be happy. "What color are you anyways?" Kepo was speaking to her perhaps less respectfully than he could have, but he thought it was a little rude of her not to offer her name.

Good, so this male would be easy to seduce and then what? She wasn't sure. She'd play along with whatever he wanted for a short time. Hoping that perhaps he'd fall for her, and she could hurt him. Then again, she wasn't sure what she was totally getting into. She was just having a bit of fun herself. This seemed like an excellent plan at the moment. Wing it, and then see what happens in the end. "Oh, I bet!" She said with a convincing excited voice. She wondered if he liked the more dumb type of hyenas? It seemed like it for the moment. "Stick around, and prove it." She said in a demanding tone, of course, it came out a little more demanding then she wanted it to. But, if he went for it, he went for it. More power to her.
What an odd question to ask, though everything else seemed to work for her. Though, she still thought he was a big liar. "I'm black." She said with a nod. "With some tan, and white." Not too much, though she was sure of that, seeing as it'd be a lot easier seeing a mostly white hyena then a mostly black one. "You're black too? Or at least mostly...Right?" She asked him. She couldn't make out but it looked like he was two shades, one was darker then the other, but still looked black to her. Hardly any difference. She had not noticed earlier, yet she remembered dawn was almost here. Faster, and faster it seemed that light was coming. Soon they'd be able to see each other pretty decently.
Some reason, she felt anxious and excited to see the darkness masked man. It was odd to think about who you're talking to when your eyes were wide open. She wondered if this was how blind creatures saw things? She'd have to ask one next time she ran into one, unless it was her dinner, then she figured she'd kill it too fast to know if it was even blind. No matter.

Stick around and prove what, that he said what he meant? Well, all right. Kepo felt a little friendlier towards this hyena now than he had when she first startled him. That demanding tone appealed to him. She clearly didn't know how hyenas were supposed to be, which bothered him a bit, but she seemed to be catching on.
"Black is good," Kepo said decisively. "Black and tan and white are all pretty colors." They were family colors, which meant they were correct colors. Kepo couldn't help but wrinkle his nose at some of the strangely colored hyenas out in the world. "I'm black and grey and tan." Kepo left unsaid that they would look well together. He wanted his superior ideal female to look wonderful with him, and make many happy pups that would look just like his aunt Dikeledi, who was the most beautiful hyena in the world.
Having been promised a lovely hyena to look at, Kepo was growing quite eager for the sun to rise as well.

He was falling right into her trap. Or rather, she thought he was. It was all amusing to her regardless. She wasn't sure if she'd be smiling when he finally saw her, or if she'd have an innocent look upon her face. Of course, she'd decide soon enough. Which would be more pleasing to such a male? She was sure the innocent look would, but could she pull that off? Last time she checked, she wasn't at all innocent.
"Those are good colors" Of course, any color to her was good. Though, she always liked the natural colors rather then the oddly bright ones. She always wondered how some got those ungodly greens, or blinding blues. Strange as they were, they still intrigued her. Of course, she wasn't at all thinking about puppies, or any type of reproducing, she just wanted to mess with the male a bit.
Still the land grew a light gray color, She could see the differences between his browns and blacks on his body. Though, she still couldn't quit tell that the browns were actually brown on him. They still looked a dark gray to her, almost black yet a noticeable difference. Now she could tell he had some stripe like markings. What if he thought she was plain? She had no real markings to her. Then again, it wasn't a big loss if he found little to no interest to her. She'd just have to go about her game a little differently.
Silence seemed to fill the air, an awkwardness almost? She wasn't sure. "Anything else I should know about you?" She asked him, sounding very curious, though if anyone else asked her, she'd tell them it mattered little to her and was just part of the game. That was, if she had anyone to tell about her little adventure. Perhaps this was why she had no friends? She shrugged it off quickly.

She agreed with him about the colors. Of course she agreed with him, he was right! As far as Kepo was concerned, he was always right, and he hadn't yet encountered any situation to make him doubt that. Feeling quite smug, he waited patiently through the little moment of silence without feeling awkward a bit. He felt fidgety, hoping that the damn sun would hurry up and rise already so he could take a look at this mystery female. Then he could ... work his charm on her, perhaps, and finally take a nap. This staying up all night stuff really wasn't the greatest.
It was interesting to be asked what else she should know about him. Kepo allowed himself to preen a little. Of course she was interested in him, who wouldn't be? Idiots, that was who. Kepo was starting to learn a little tiny bit of tact, though, and he decided against blathering on and on about his greatness, as tempting as it was. "Well..." I'm amazing, witty, and the best hyena in the world. And certainly the best looking. But that all was obvious, so he wouldn't have to tell her about it. "I've decided it's time to go look for a nice female hyena, so that's why I'm out here." Best not to beat around the bush. "Is there anything I need to know about you?"

She almost frowned. She wanted him to go on and on to keep the silence from happening again. It wasn't nice. Silence was always about when one was alone, but shouldn't be there when there were more then one around, right? It was like some silent unspoken rule, she thought. Or if it wasn't, it should be. Her tail flicked back and forth when he directed the question at her.
Well, yes there was things he should know, like how she's playing him like a fool. But she wasn't about to say that. "Is that so?" She replied to his female comment. Made things for her that much easier. Messing with him was going to be as simple as stepping on a tiny little bug. She felt a smirk come to her face, but she forced it not to appear. It was getting lighter, and she didn't want him to see anything like that. At least not yet. "Well, I suppose nothing really too important." She simply said. "Nothing you can't find out with being around me for a bit" She added as if she could possibly be that female. Sightly seductive, yet innocent at the same time.
She wanted to laugh, wanted to tell someone about her plans on having a little fun. But there was no one to tell. So she kept it to herself. Silently, giggling in her mind. Repeating over and over on how he didn't know what was coming to him. Then again, she also had in the back of her mind a question... A simple tiny question that'll end up eating away at her. -Did he really deserve this type of game?- Well, of course he did. He was rude to her. At least, that was her thoughts for the moment. She wasn't good at keeping secrets for long, but this one she'd have to try hard to unless she wanted to ruin it completely.
Now with the land being a dull darkish light blue, she could finally see more of him then she had just a few moments ago. She could almost see the shade of brown of his fur. Or was certain that's where the brown was. It was certainly lighter then the black stripes on his legs and side. His coat seemed to get lighter towards his black paws almost as if he was wearing some type of black ankle high cloth.

Nothing you can't find out with being around me for a bit. Kepo couldn't help smiling at that. Although they hadn't met under the best circumstances, he was growing confident that this female wasn't bad after all. She was interested in him, and wanted to spend time with him! Well, of course she did. Any reasonably intelligent creature would want to spend time with Kepo. Feeling quite pleased with himself, and his lovely find (those colors really were very appealing on her!), Kepo's smile broadened.
And now it was nearly light enough to see properly, which meant that she would surely be impressed with his extreme handsomeness. The idea of making pups was still a little vague to Kepo, but he did want to be with females that looked right. She looked like she would match well with his family, which was excellent. He could just picture her back home, hunting with the rest of the females!
He couldn't bring her back immediately though. Not right away. The thought of bringing home an unsuitable female was cringe-inducing. He would be humiliated! No, he had to make sure that she was just perfect. "I'd like to be around you for a bit," Kepo said brightly. He cast a glance at the land around them, a scornful glance. "I'm not used to being alone. I have to put up with the other males back home - they're awful, especially my cousin - but at least there are others around. It's too ... lonely here." This was awfully touchy-feely talk, but females liked that, didn't they?

She raised a brow. He fell completely into her paws. Excellent. This was going to be more fun then she could have dreamed. She flicked her tail back and forth before she smiled at him. "Well, good thing I have a big enough den for the both of us." She said with a wink. Of course it was a innocent one. She didn't intend it to be anything else. This way, she could easily learn more about him and catch him in his own lie. Then again, he was probably pretty good at this game, he seemed confident what he said was true. Though, she still had her doubts.
"I could show you where that is now, if you'd like?"
