Karoko sighed. It was so... quiet, out here in the forests and grasslands. It was almost... deafening. Too quiet. Sure, he could hear birds chirping and squirrels chittering and... his stomach growling. Like a fool, Karo hadn't eaten before he left the city. Big mistake. He didn't know how to hunt! He was a city fox, he knew how to con and steal and scrounge for a meal. Sighing again, he wandered into the trees, nearly snagging his ear on the first branch he came to. Great.

After what seemed like hours of wandering, the male spotted a rabbit. Foxes eat rabbits, right? Of course they do. It was like... un-cooked hamburger. Ok, he could do this. Crouching low and sticking his butt way up in the air like he had seen on tv, Karo launched himself at the rabbit - and of course, missed. "DRAT!" He cried, swiping the ground with a clawed paw. "I'm so dead."

User Image Amy heard the voice of a male near her tribe, the rabbit from her jaws dangling. The vixen was off finding food for Yasashii because Gwyn was all grown, her skills were needed else where. The sound of a male alerted the vixen, ears flipping back as it was not the voice she had wanted to hear. It wasn't her tribe-member-friend, Tabby Cat. No. It was someone else. She contemplated avoiding the male, even considered returning to Kithara and telling her, but she knew her duty. Greet all visitors and ask if they were here for business or pleasure.

And so, the dark vixen sniffed her way to the sound, until she could almost sense the males location. The blind female couldn't figure why his voice had seemed familiar, or his scent, but she dropped her kill and clicked her tongue agains't the roof of her mouth.

How she hated talking to men these days.

"Are you here for medicine?"

"AHH!" The male had not heard someone approaching, and so at the voice he nearly jumped out of his fur. Breathing hard, Karoko turned to the sound of the voice to see - "Amy!" Sure enough! It was the vixen he'd met once before, but he had accidentally brought up a sore topic and she had ran off... "Amy! It's been a little while, hasn't it? It's me, Karo. Remember?" Guilt kicked in, and he pawed the ground. "About last time... I really am sorry... I didn't know..." He shook his head, not wanting to drag that up again.

Realizing what she had greeted him with, Karo frowned. "Medicine? Why would I be here for... OH!" His eyes flew wide. "Oh! Am I on tribe lands? You didn't tell me you were in a tribe... but... then again, you didn't tell me much at all..." He let out a nervous laugh. "Um, I can leave?" Karo really didn't want to go, something about Amy made him want to never leave her side, despite the fact he didn't know her from the next vixen. Maybe it was desperation to meet foxes outside of the city? Whatever the reason, he just hoped she didn't send him away.

Her head tilted to the side, one ear raised as she listened before bitterly tightening her lips. It was that male again. She shook her head at his words, blind eyes closing as she sat on her haunches, opening despite their lack of use.

"This is Yasashii tribe land." He tone had adopted a robotic tone, clearly business. "No, Yasashii accepts any and all visitors. Its merely a members job to make sure visitors do not need our help, and, if they do to bring them to the tribe to be watched over until they are content." What was his name? Karoko. The male that thought he understood.

Male.

The word sent a wave of distrust through her. The blind vixen's tail whipped about as she shook her head, grumbling. "Do you need food, perhaps?"

Oi. His entire body went ridged and his face turned into one big blush. Food. Great. What kind of male asked a vixen for food? A blind vixen at that?! Growling a little, he scolded himself for that last thought. She was just as capable of hunting as any other fox, he knew that. Still... it didn't seem right, like it went against... some kind of male code, or something.

Pride got in the way of his empty belly. "N-no, thank you, I can... uh... hunt... well enough. I just need practice, is all!" What was wrong with him? Karoko shook his head. This was pitiful. What happened to the smooth-talking flirt of the city? He was way out of his league. This vixen here, Amy, could probably skin him alive before he could so much as utter a cry. By the look on her face, she might do it, too.

(( Wow, the sweet Amy described as someone who can skin someone alive. Nice. I was thinking, could we have a lot of time-skips in this one? Like, he keeps pursuing her and she keeps running off until they have a break through? ))

Amy was not in the mood. This was unlike her, to be so.... angry. So frustrated. More, it was hurt. Hurt at the fact that she was alone, still. Champagne, Embry, Iah, Nitya, they had prospective mates! Well, Nitya denied it, and Champagne tried to claim it wasn't that way, but she knew! And then there was Kithara, she could practically hear the way she said Gwyn's name like it was...special. Akela would have someone in due time.

Tabby.

He had been supposed to be hers. He had said she was special. Said he liked her. So, where'd he go? Why'd he leave? Why him? He was supposed to be there for her. She had told him about her crush on Boniface before, and how she had once had a mate that just left... so....

And now this male. Trying to act like he cared. She wouldn't do it again. Amy was fine alone. She had her tribe and her friends. She didn't need anyone else. However, it was Yasashii code to care for people, and so, when he mentioned hunting she sighed mentally.

"Fine, if you won't accept our food, then, let me teach you how to hunt." How could a fox not know how to hunt? Oh, right, he was a city boy.

((Lol, he's being dramatic! That's an artist for ya~ Hm, yep, sounds like a great plan! Fits them perfectly, too!))

Great. Just great. Karo didn't like this one bit. Yeah, he was hopeless, and yeah, he knew she could whip him into shape in no time, but... Still. For one, she's a vixen. For two, she's blind. For three, she's only being a good tribe-memeber. For all of these reasons, Karo felt horrible that she would be the one helping him, teaching him. He wanted to help her, too, help her to smile, help her to laugh, help her to get over those *edited*'s who done her wrong... Sighing, he decided maybe if he let her teach him to hunt, she'd be more open to letting him teach her to feel.

"Thank you, miss Amy, I'd appreciate it. Truth is, and I'm sure you already guessed, I'm vulture meat if I can't catch a darned rabbit or... squirrel or... something soon..." Shaking his head, he trotted a few steps closer and grinned, "Teach me your ways, oh Skilled One."

"Okay." She huffed, moving to the side, ears flicking. "Though I am a carer of my tribe, I wish Nitya was here instead to help you." Nitya would be better at hunting than her, but, she would have to do. She listened quietly, head jerking to the side. Without sight, her hearing and sense of smell had become stronger.

The sound of hooves alerted her, and in seconds she jerked her head to the side, tail flicking as she grumbled in her throat. She laid down, pressing her head to the ground, tail still until she suddenly burst upward.

"To the south is about three or four deer."

Deer. Ok. Good. He could catch a deer. It was big, less slippery... right? Right. Wait... south? He couldn't see, smell, or hear these things, but Amy picked right up on it. So, south... He found the sun, figured out south, and padded carefully forward until he could just see them.

There they were, grazing. Four of them, just as the vixen had said. Karo just had to take a second to appreciate her skills. "Ok, I see them," He whispered to Amy. "So... I just crouch down, right? And the scuttle forward until I'm close enough, and pounce?" He felt so silly, but if he was going to learn, he was going to learn right.

While he was busy talking, Amy had silently followed. She flicked her tail in-front of him, hissing a warning at him to shush. He was not quiet. How did he not scare the deer away by merely walking here? He had not been watching the weight of his foot-steps! The blind vixen shook her head, crouching into the shadows, her best cover. She curled her tail around her, covering her hair, and stayed quiet, waiting. A deer's foot-steps grew closer, closer, and even closer....

'Thump!'

Before you knew it, Amy had the deer by the throat and on the ground, teeth crushing its wind-pipe in seconds. Nitya was a better hunter, she would not have let the deer squirm and kick a little and thus frighten off the other deer, but Amy wasn't terrible.

"There. In Yasashii, we try to kill animals only when we need to either feed ourselves, or others, and in a painless as possible way. I killed this deer with barely it registering pain."

Karoko was a naturally born artist. He was talented, not skilled. He had a sharp eye for detail, and was quite observant. Of course you would think this would transfer over to hunting, but, alas, it didn't. Karoko could blame this vixen; she seemed to be turning him up-side-down. Karoko could blame the city; you didn't have to deal with creatures who were actually smart. In the end, though, Karoko knew that only nature was to blame, that talents didn't always apply to every aspect of life.

Amy, on the other hand, was amazing. Wanting to make her proud by learning fast and right, he had watched her every move. When she was crouching, his eyes scanned every muscle, noting the way they tensed and shifted with the vixen's every movement. For just a second, Karo couldn't help but notice, as well, that she looked almost like a kit playing hide-and-seek - until suddenly the game switched to tag, and the deer lost.

Rising, not worried about the other deer since they had scattered, the male padded up to Amy and her kill. "Wow. That was... wow." One thing about his natural artistic-ness never failed him, and that was his appreciation for beauty. Despite being semi-lost in thought, her kill had been beautiful to watch. "I don't see why anyone would kill for otherwise," He replied to her tid-bit about the tribe, "Seems a waste if you don't kill it to eat it..." As he was talking, the male made note of where Amy's bite was, and the vital parts she had targeted.

"It was really nothing." She mused. She had actually liked his response, it was flattering to know someone was impressed with her, if only a little bit. Her tail flicked to the side, cloudy eyes closing as she sighed, kicking the deer closer to him.

"Here, eat. After, I will bring the remains to my Elder." She said, moving to clean the thick liquid off her muzzle, the blood bothering her. She hated the feeling of blood on her muzzle. She licked her muzzle, listening to the forest around her before tilting her head to try and "look" at Karoko.

"Is that all you need?"

Grinning, Karoko took a big bite out of the deer meat, savoring the taste despite getting a mouthful of hair with it. He still had his mouth full when the vixen asked him if he needed anything more.

Quickly, he swallowed so he could answer, and nearly choked on it. Once he was composed, he cleared his throat. "Oh, uh, yeah, yes thank you, Amy! If you would like, I can help you bring this deer back to your Elder?" It's not that he didn't think the vixen could do it, it's that he wanted to be polite, be a gentleman, and he didn't want her to go. When would he see her again?
PostPosted: Fri Feb 04, 2011 5:15 pm

"I'm fine." She responded back, a spider-webbed marked ear flicking back. She didn't want to bother this stranger, or even get attached to him. Instead, she moved to the deer, skillfully biting into the flesh, forcing the creatures back leg off and some of the hind, nudging it towards him. She stopped, sniffing the male so she would remember his scent.

"Can I touch your face before I leave? So I know what you look like?" She asked. Even if she never was near him again, she wanted to at least know what he would look like if she could see.

((Time-skip a few weeks later where Karoko returns to see Amy?))

Karoko frowned. How... he knew this concept worked for humans, because they had an enormous variety in facial structure, but Karo thought, for the most part, all foxes were the same. But, shoot, at least she wanted to commit him to her memory, and that made Karo's tail wag.

"Of course, that's only fair~" He sat down in front of her, tail still wagging, and nudged one of her front paws with his nose so she wouldn't have to wave her paws around to find him. Then a thought crossed his mind, about color, and if maybe he could teach her to 'see' not just the structure of a face, but the color and markings too... But he knew he would just have to bring that up on a later date. Deity's knew he would see her again, some way, some how, whether Amy liked it or not. The thought made him grin a little~
