Twilight had given way to night, all the fireflies had made themselves known by lightly twinkling the ground, the breeze moved the tall grass side to side, and the earth was in all appearances resting for the night. The scene had brought a smile to Tribalwind's face and made her happy that she found such a lovely place to settle down. Hopefully to one day have a family of her own, little paws to scamper around the den would be most welcome.
Swiveling her ears back and forth she was picking up many sounds, other Peke'Na members coming out to hunt or stargaze with their mates. A sad smile flitted across her face at the thought of lifemates, rare though they seemed it would be nice to have that companionship the rest of your life.

The night was growing dark, the twilight gone meant only one thing. Sure enough Twana sat still a moment then heard whimpering, then felt shock as a pup nipped her ear. she gasped lightly in her half sleep then smiled at little Tenderthought. The rest were playing with their other twelve or so step-siblings and all was well. She had plans for the day, a day off. The pups were old enough to be left alone now, she had no fears of leaving and becoming deathly worried. They were her own flesh and blood of course, a Mother felt this regardless. She sighed happily as they all took off together, seemingly awake for hours rather than just waking. A soft giggle escaped her lips. The giggle stirred memories, she sighed sadly from memory to memory then shook her head lightly. "Memories are memories.. those are the past. Aadi I'll miss you always." A phrase she had come to say when he woke from nightmares. She loved Zube oh so much, but would always cherish what was shared between her and the leopard.
A yelling yip shocked her as much as the n** did, this one from her little memory moment. They were simply playfighting out front, she openly laughed then skittered away before they could know she was gone. She left the older pups with a message of her leaving so they wouldn't be worried, but her pups would not be to happy if she left. They were better off playing until she got back, so they didn't even know what happened! Suddenly the world around her became silent, she was just far enough away to lose the sound. She sighed in relaxation and nearly cried, for the memories and such came back. She hadn't really had time to come to terms with all that had happened and she found herself trembling lightly. "Oh Twana.. get your head out of the den. It happened, but was nothing.. it needed to be done." She murmured to herself sweetly. Calming herself then relaxing.
Noises began to surround Twana again, she found herself at the border of the pack, the fireflies decorated the grounds nicely. Admiration struck her face brightly and she stayed a moment to watch. "Beautiful.. so beautiful." That's when she noticed, a pretty red wild dog. She was alone, seemed to be just getting up, but was unsure and sad. The biggest thing Twana recognized was she was new, never having seen the wild dog before meant only that. She smiled lightly and found it burning in her heart to say something, anything and she proposed to do just that.
"Hello there.." She almost whispers, she was a natural Mother, that whispering voice was part of her Motherhood, she was gentle and soothing and ready to help. It aided her that she was also a healer for the pride. She knew most of the pride members due to physical ailments and more. Anything from poison ivy to hurt limbs. "I'm Umhlaba`Umntwana.. but you can call me Earthchild, as is the Peke Na way. I've been here since I was just a pup and I still have my outsider ways." She laughed softly, stopping herself dead before telling her whole life story to this point.
"You must be new? Am I right?" She smiled just as sweet as she spoke.

Startled out of her thoughts Kokuro whirled about to look at the unknown female who called herself Earthchild. Kokuro was surprised, usually she was able to spot or hear someone coming towards her. " O-oh, hello there." Pink eyes gazed at the almost white female, with creamy-yellow patches here and there. " Nice to meet you Umhl-umha- Earthchild, I am called Tribalwind."
Kokuro wandered closer, slowly as she did not know the other that well yet. " As a pup you say? Wow, that must be nice. I'm quite new around these parts, I used to live alone in the rogue lands before I decided to leave and make my journey to Peke'Na. I heard there were many wild dogs around these parts and I wanted to be around my own kind." Kokuro chuckled lightly to diguise her pain of being alone. "A healer you say? Oh, you are the second member I have met that is a healer." Kokuro wagged her tail happily at the thought of having so many wild dogs who knew the art of medicine, now at least she knew where to go if she got sick. " Are you alone?" Kokuro peered around Earthchild to see if anyone else happened to be with her. " I have yet to explore the full land of Peke'Na, but I know its quite huge from what I've seen and heard from the other healer that I met a while back."

Twana was startled all the same, and she kneew she was there. Such a light spirit, to be startled when she was doing the startling, this caused her to laugh lightly and smile at the engaging wild dog. She noted lightly the females few paw steps forward, she trusted the members of this pack. That is what that told, this was a pleasing thing Twana thought, made her feel more comfortable about leaving her pups alone for a few moments. Though she knew that it would not take that long for her pups, her blood pups to find her. "It's nice to meet you Tribalwind." She smiled fondly this time."It was not all that nice.. more scary then nice. I was alone a lot of the time, missing my mate and my best friend.. and my family. I left them to come here for my mate. He is around now though. Explained to me why he was away and such, you see. He was older then me, thus carried urges I could not yet fulfill."
Her eye's glistened lightly, as much as she had everything she missed so much and felt her heart breaking all over again, yearning for things she could not have, but would not dare give up in her heart, no matter how much it tore her apart. She took a very deep breath and whispered some words to herself, calming herself before a storm broke loose. "Welcome to the pack then Tribalwind, I'm glad you came here, we're such a family! You wouldn't know if anyone was new except for the fact that you've never seen them before. Most are welcomed into the homes of others so that they have a place to stay while they get settled. Though I haven't seen that as of late." She grimaced a little, but the grimace lasted mere moments, not even a full second. Her personality just wouldn't allow such a terrible emotion to be shown. "Ahhh, yeah, us Healers are very open to speaking with members from every age group. It doeskin surprise me that you've met two y now, it shocks me you haven't met more!" Her laugh returns, trembling from her jaws and seeping out happily.
"You mean right here? Yes. If not, definitely I am not alone here. My mate traveled a lot, had puppies with a few other females and brought me a family i thought I could never have! He brought a light to my life while my aging process went on drearily long. I was a juvenile Mother and been Mothering since then on. Only recently have I had my first blood litter. When they were born I was Mothering 12 puppies.. or maybe more, I lost count." She laughed a bit more hardly at this, she suffered much going through adolescent stage to adolescent stage. The most wacky stage of them all she would protest! "Most of them are grown and have flown the nest now, they visit. I haven't become a Grandmother yet to my recollection, but I wouldn't know for sure." Her words had poured free from her again. She loved talking about her family! She just couldn't help her love for them.
"Love is found here for sure, this home is something I cherish more because it gave me Zuberi. He brought me everything I could ever ask for. Is that something you seek?" Twana saw through the sadness, the wild dog had a lovesick look in her eye's. The looks that cries out again and again for someone to hold her when she cries, love her when she's not and live life til the end. A lifemate. Twana said nothing more though, before she spews to much that is.
She paused, to not reply to all her questions would be rude it was as if Twana just heard what Tribalwind had said and she blushed in embarrassment at going and such and smiled lightly, the blush remaining. "Yes, the pack is quite large, it's a very impressive group of wild dogs. We live together in peace with everything as far as I know. Maybe it's because we are such night hawks!"

Tribalwind watched the emotions move across Twana's face. It nearly broke her heart to see such sadness on the kind female's face. Without thinking of the consequence or thinking about how forward she was being, Kokuro gave Twana a comforting nuzzle as if to say 'sorry for the loss of your old pack, it will be alright' before she stepped back once more. " I don't understand, so you've had two mates? One in your old pack and one now?" She paused before continuing. " I thank you for the welcome, it means a lot and that is what I like about this place. The kindness everyone shows."
Tribalwind decided to share a little bit about her family background as her friend had done. " I never met my family, I was abandoned when I was just a pup." Ears dropping at that thought, before she shook away all negative thoughts. No. She would not do this to herself. Inner debate broken when she heard the number of pups Earthchild had. " Tw-twelve pups? M-more?!" Kokuro took in the petite figure. " Wow, you look good for someone who's had that many babies!" Tribalwind winced at those words, thinking that may have been a bit blunt. But heck is was the truth!
Tribalwind laughed, " Grandmother huh? Boy, could you imagine all those babies you'd be grandma too?" That brought another soft smile to her face. Babies were such cute things, adorable and they loved you unconditionally. " Really?" Hardly daring to believe that she would find love here. " Yes I hope to find someone like your Zuberi." Tribalwind blushed lightly while saying this.

The emotions that streaked across her face were fleeting, but very strong. Tears welled up in her eye's as she received the affectionate nuzzle from the strange wild dog. Twana was very grateful for it, she hadn't cried or been upset about her past life since she had to forcefully remove Aadi from it. It seemed the mourning was forcing itself out and opening itself to the female before her. "No no.. my old 'pack' persay was my family. My siblings, my parents and the occasional friend here and there. I've only ever had one pack. This is my pack." She nodded slowly and smiled fondly. "And the 'mate' we're talking about, the old one. He was something very special, as Zube was when I found him. There was only one problem with my first mate and I. He was a leopard." She sighed softly and felt herself droop a bit. "He was strong, gallant, and loved me.. his love was beautiful." A sense of admiration filled her and the tears were gone. "It wasn't long after I had met Zube, the first of my kind I had seen outside of my own family. He's brought me insurmountable amounts of happiness, but I will miss Aadi for a long time." Her words were sore, as if the pain that seeped through her was thick enough to drench her speech.
"I sometimes believe this pack was built on love and kindness. Everyone here treats each other as if they are all mates. Mothers can be free because they can feel the comfort that the pups can go to another Mother if they desperately need something, or they can roam to find you." She gazed fondly away from the Tribalwind to the pack and smiled broadly. "My past isn't here, which is why I can be happy and not weighed down by problems of the outside world. It's easy to be strong here, with all the strong faces surrounding me. I hope their strength helps you too." At this point Twana took it upon herself to get up and basically with a glance call Tribalwind to follow. She was tired of sitting in one spot. "Abandoned? Are you so sure you were abandoned?" Twana heard this and felt a twang on her heart strings. It was hard to believe anyone would abandon a pup. "Have you ever thought that maybe your family didn't abandon you? Instead something happened and they hid you, from something far worse? And they couldn't get back to you...?" Her belief in the good of everyone was strong. "Oh and geeze, they aren't all mine by blood!" She began to laugh loudly. "Zube has had a few mistresses ad brought their product home for me to Mother until I was full grown and could have my own. I have only had four myself." She smiled now, relaxing into a comfy speed.
"Well m'dear, to find something liek Zube and I have is easy here, like i said, the pack is built on love and kindness.. it's just a bridge into a happier life then any other pack can bring!" She stated very bluntly for this was her belief all in all. The blush went unseen in her pelt, but Twana could hear it in her voice and she giggled at Tribalwind lightly. "Oh to be young and crave love." She murmured teasingly loud enough for Tribalwind to hear. Twana could see them being friends for a great long time.

Frowning and feeling sad for her new friend Tribalwind couldn't really image the feelings Earthchild had been going- still going through. She also couldn't image falling in love with a feline either, but everyone was different and sometimes love really was powerful enough to look past differences. " I see, I see." She continued to listened as the other female spoke about her siblings, parents, and friends. " Well, I still glad you found another to love and from what you have told me, you have four lovely children apart of your life now. My past isn't here either, its in the roguelands from what I can remember."
Her ears dropped a little at the sad memories. " Yes, I remember like a faint memory an angry female voice and pain.. So I believe that I was abandoned." Tribalwind shrugged off the memory like it meant nothing, but it all honesty it was hurtful to recall something like that and not feel effected. Either way it was some form of abandonment, being left to defend and hunt. Which she surprisingly was really good at, independence came easy for her as that was her whole life; depending on herself and no one else.
Again she shook off that feeling with a laugh at Earthchild's next sentence, " Oh! I was going to say, 'my you have been busy!'" Giggling Tribalwind followed the other female. Yes she craved love, to have someone at her side through thick and thin, to comfort and be comforted... it was a nice dream. "Where are we headed Lady Earth?" She teased her new friend lightly with a nickname.

Waiting for the other female to respond, Tribalwind looked around the beauty of Peke'Na. The sun was shining making her fur warm and her soul content. This was the right path to choose, her soul could feel the positive atmosphere. Bending her head down to look underneath a bush she and Earthchild had passed, she listened to the sound of giggling wolf-pups. Little ones were truly adorable and so forgiving, the only gave unconditional love. That is what Kokuro wanted love and to be loved.
She had a feeling that she would met someone that would soon rock her lonely world.

Tribalwind just stayed quiet and followed Earthchild to where she was going. Soon she found out it was the center of the village. Kokuro laughed at some of the pups antics and thought of how wonderful it was to be here in the presence of happy wild dogs. Night was approaching, the pups were yawning, and the adults were gathering everyone up to the center of the village for stories before rest. Tribalwind settled her body down and listened as the elders spoke of far of lands as well as funny stories. This was heaven. This was happiness.
She knew everything was going to be alright.
END.
