Achilles had taken to keeping a closer eye them normal on the various pups in the pack since the Chilapa incident. Seraphin seemed like the nice enough sort, or at least she was kind to Iosef and less abrasive then most of the others. she didn't even seem to mind overly much when he lingered nearby, out of the way but..there none the less.
Through his time spent observing the little beasts a couple things had come to his attention and one pup in particular had caught his eye. The fellow claimed to desire to be a warrior..which was of course impossible given his gender. Or at least it should be...Achilles however was willing to try and give him something of his wish..besides, Patroclus needed a sparring partner more his own age and of course that would mean little chimera would have to be brought up to speed so the match would be worth while...or at least that would be the excuse he would give Pen if she questioned him.
Truthfully...Achilles just didn't like to see pups herded into designations that didn't suit them or driven beyond their limits - whichever the case might be. And so one day while sitting near the nursery den he motioned to little Chimera when Seraphin didn't seem to be looking.

The older he got, the less satisfied Chimera was with his station in life.
It's not that he didn't like his father's lifestyle, that he thought any less of him for it or anything. It just that Chimera had, all his short life, done everything with Isobel. And now that his sisters were old enough to start training...they were gone, and he couldn't follow.
And what else was he supposed to do? Hang around with the twins? that hardly seemed fair.
Isobel had taught him a few things, at night, when they could chance to sneak away from the den together. But it wasn't very much. And one morning when Iosef had found his son all by himself in the same area the females trained one early morning...well, Chimera was still rankled by the talking-to he'd gotten.
He'd never paid too much attention to the comings and goings of Achilles, but it seemed just now that the bi-hued eyes of the other wolf were following him rather closely...and, when he was beckoned, it seemed undeniable. He glanced around, looking over his shoulder to make sure nobody else could possibly be around, and then made his way over to him. "....yes?"

Achilles waited patiently as the young pup determined that it was indeed him that he was calling over, suitable he supposed that the poor fellow would think such a thing it was likely his sisters who got called over by the adults more often then not. "You are Iosefs boy are you not?" Of course Achilles already knew that he was...even if he hadn't been a part of the pack anyone with a brain could pick out the patchy similarities in their hide.
"Do you know who I am?" He asked the pup unsure of just what Seraphin thought of him or what the young male might have picked up from the overheard conversations with others

He nodded mutely, sizing up the grown-up -- a large, muscular, scarred grownup that looked very little like his daddy -- thoughtfully. "No," he said, at first, and then paused. "...yes. You're Orithia's dad." He knew Orithia. And all the other pups, of course, because his mother watched over them. But he especially knew Orithia because she played with him more than the others did, being sick so often.

"Quite so" Achilles agreed with a nod of confirmation "But I am many other things as well, The Queens consort...and a Mercenary. Do you know what a Mercenary is?" He asked but of course the boy likely wouldn't know...not in this ack where mot of his education spiraled around things like how to keep a den clean or carry away old bones.
"A mercenary is a warrior wolf, they can be male or female in the world outside this pack...and I am teaching my son to be such a wolf. I have heard that you desire to learn such things...and Patroclus could certainly use a sparring partner..though of course you would have to learn many things first"

He shook his head, solemnly. Why was this wolf talking to him? What did he want? When he continued speaking, Chimera's eyes widened. A male warrior? But...that didn't make any sense. There was no such thing! "...Isn't that against the rules?" He said, very quietly. He looked around, a little paranoid.

Such a timid little creature..perhaps he was too much like his father to be a true warrior...Achilles would be a bit disappointed should that be the case but he wan't willing to give up so very soon. "Here perhaps..but outside of the pack things are very different and anyone can be whatever they so choose" He told the young pup and then conscious that telling him such things might put ideas into his skull he continued on "Of course it is a far more dangerous world as well"
"The queen has given me permission to train my son..but I cannot do so properly without a partner for him to spar with. I thought perhaps you might be interested..as no mother here would wish their daughters to train with a male..."

His purple eyes sparkled. Chimera was a smart pup, and the gears in his head were nearly visible as they moved into place. His brow furrowed. He thought about Isobel, and how she would soon be so much better than him at everything...and how maybe now he had a chance to keep up. "If I get in trouble," he said, his voice still very low, insistent and a little sullen, "It's your fault, and I'll be sure everybody knows it."
It took moxy, perhaps, to talk to an adult that way -- especially one who could snap him in half. But Chimera had the fearlessness of a child, and the bluntness of one.

Achilles laughed at the pups sullen bravery "Are you threatening me pup?" He asked with a slightly arched brow, as though the very audacity of such a thing amused him greatly "Never fear little one..if anyone gets into trouble for this is shall be me and I'm not the least bit worried" He told him confidently/
"However...none of this means that you can disrespect the sisters or disobey the rules of your station, though I would have it otherwise you are still a slave and you must be respectful..but you will at least be able to defend yourself from abuse when your older" Which as far as Achilles was concerned was a pretty good step up from the shaking and cowering that so many of the other did. And if Chimera ever decided he wanted a life elsewhere - well at least he wouldn't leave completely unprepared to look after himself.

Chimera pulled himself up, standing tall. He cast one last slightly paranoid glance over his shoulder before returning his attentions to Achilles, his violet eyes -- so like his father's, and yet glinting with a defiant pride that was nowhere in the extinguished flame of the older slave -- locked on the mercenary. "Okay," he said, taking the warnings mostly to heart. Chimera had been lucky enough that, with the exception of a few frightening near-misses with a certain Varia-monster, he had lived a conflict-free life so far. The concept of even dealing with the sisters, much less talking back to them, hadn't even entered his mind yet: he just wanted to keep up with Isobel. "...When do we start, then?"

Achilles might have chuckled quietly at the look on the pups face if he had been the type to do such things - instead he kept such delight carefully to himself. While his excuses for training Chimera were valid to a point - he also knew they would cause a stir if he reveled in them to much. Some Wolves in this pack simply couldn't bare it when those around them were pleased with anything and Achilles had no desire to draw that sort of attention to either himself or the mall pup before him.
"I shall fetch you tomorrow afternoon when I come to retrieve Patroclus for his lesson" Achilles informed the pup "Until then..attempt not to get into any trouble less the sisters decide to ban you from training."

Chimera's eyes lit up. "Yes sir," he said, excited not only to begin training...but to have a secret of his very own. Secrets gave you power. He knew that much, however young he was.
That probably meant he'd have to stay away from his late-night sneakings off to the training grounds, then. For the time being. Ah well. He'd just have to resume that after he was more comfortable.

Good - things were going well, even the pups mother had remained busy enough for this conversation to take place without her noticing. He hated to jinx himself but so far...everything was going quite according to plan and he was quite pleased with it all
Of course he would find out just how well this would work when he came to collect the pup tomorrow afternoon, though in all likelihood Achilles was pretty sure that no one would bother to question why one slave had come to collect another...sometimes being beneath the notice of the sisters notice came in handy. Given Iosefs recent attitude change Achilles wasn't even sure he would kick up much of a fuss about all of this.
"Good lad, ensure you have a good night sleep tonight...the training will not be easy, rewarding things rarely are and you will be expected to put your best paw forward at all times"

Chimera nodded resolutely. "I'll do my best," he said, and tried to ignore the delighted thudding in his chest. This would be so hard to keep secret! But, at the same time, he was ecstatic to even have a secret to keep. Indeed, it was hard to tell which he was more excited over...learning to fight....or having a secret.
He cast a last uncertain smile to the assassin and then backed away to scurry back to his mother before she noticed.

Achilles watched as the pup scurried back towards his mother and grinned a sly grin to himself before picking himself up off the ground and giving his pelt a shake. Tomorrow he would find out the pups true metle but he had some good feelings about that one, now if only he could put the time into him required before the sitsters caught on and pitched a fit about it.
He had that all figured out of course - but he'd rather gt some training in with the pup before he had to bother dealing with any of that. Giving the area one more glance he turned and headed back towards his own den.
