Tyco found himself wandering again. Wandering, wandering, always wandering. His last meeting with Mia had been.... Well he prefered not to think about it; he wasn't a masocist, to enjoy that horrible pain in his heart. He supposed it could have been worse, but that was little consolation at this point.
Obviously there was no repairing his past though, and it was time for him to let it go. It was hard, the toughest thing he'd ever had to do, but he had to do it. If for no other reason that to make Mia happy, he had to let her go.
Tyco sighed. His feet were carrying him automatically, back towards the ocean; that's where he always went when he just needed to be.
He tried to find pleasant aspects of his journey. There had been that one vixen he'd met, Safiya. They'd had a pleasant conversation, even made plans to visit one another. That might be nice; Safiya was going through a rough time of her own, and if was nice to have someone who could understand that kind of pain.

Safiya made her halting journey towards the sea, stopping every so often to debate whether she should continue going or not. After her break up with her mate, Safiya wasn't entirely sure if she should start getting involved with another male. Shaking her head softly, she wondered when she became such a twit. She wasn't getting involved, it was a fishing trip. And she could hardly be getting involved with the male if she had invited herself.
Still, she hoped that Tyco didn't mind her showing up out of the blue like this. She was just getting far, far too lonely in her little cave. Deciding for the umpteenth time to continue forward, Safiya started walking again when another thought entered her mind. What if he's not there? Didn't he say he went up and down the coast? Hesitating for a second, Safiya shrugged. If he wasn't where she ended up, she'd look for him.
Cresting a small, rocky outcropping, the black and white vixen stopped dead in her tracks, turquois eyes widening in awe. Safiya had never seen so much water in one place. And the water was loud. She watched the waves attack the shore, listenting to the muted roar of the water. Somehow, she found the sound rather soothing.

Tyco found himself slowly strolling down the beach, damp sand pleasantly firm under his paws. He was not so sunk into his thoughts not to watch where he was walking; the water was frigid this time of year! He made sure to position himself just so, so when the waves finally reached him they were no more than the smallest shifting of sand under his feet was the water moved in then out. His pads would be wet, of course, but it beat having his entire foot wet.
For the longest time he was simply looking down at the ground, watching the waves as they neared and the occasional bird or crab go about their business. As always the ocean had a calming effect on him, like as it came in it pooled with his pain, and pulled a little bit of it out each time it rushed back with the main body.
Finally he began to look up. In the distance there were the cliffs, those rocky outcroppings he liked to sit upon when he knew storms were coming; it was amazing to watch them spawn and grow, and by now he was a good judge and knowing how long he would watch before he shifted his butt back into cover.
Tyco hadn't been looking at the cliffs long when something caught his eye. He frowned a bit. This part of the world was always without color, in a sense; the ocean had a gray-ish look to it, the sky the palest blues that faded to near colorlessness in the winter. It was a gorgeous sight against the deep, rich colors of the forest, in his mind. Still, there was a small blot of white on the cliff that looked a bit too white to be part of the sky....

Safiya watched the waves a moment longer before turning her attention to more of her surroundings than just the water. What Tyco had told her was true. The whole world seemed to have been whitewashed. From the moment she had stepped free of the trees, there had mostly just been various shades of gray. Even the sky, normally a deep blue where she lived was gray as stone.
Safiya reflected that she may have found this place slightly depressing once upon a time. Now...she didn't mind the change at all. Really, the setting fit her mood, and the lack of vibrant colors mixed with the soothing wave to create a balm for her still slightly raw nerves. The black and white vixen could see why Tyco liked this place as much as he did.
Glancing back down at the water, she started to gingerly hop from one rock to another, trying to go down the cliff and get to the waves. Water with salt in it. It was a novelty and she wanted to see what it was like before she continued on in her search for the male who lived here.

Tyco had gotten close to the base of the cliff, staying just far enough back that he could see the figure on the cliff. No doubt about it, it was another fox. Vixen, maybe? And the black and white pelt seemed familiar, though it could just be that he had Safiya on the brain. After all most black and white foxes tended to look the same at a distance.
"Hello," he called, rust-red eyes peering at the figure. Whoever it was, he was curious. It wasn't like this spot was a popular sight-seeing destination, especially in the winter.

The greeting caught Safiya by surprise, since the vixen had been completely focused on getting off the cliff. Hopping down the last few feet to the sand, Safiya looked around. At first, she almost missed the grey and red fox, but a glint off one of his bracelets caught her attention. "Hello!" She called back, unsure who was calling to her. She couldn't recognize the voice when it was diluted by ocean roar and a bit of distance.
Still, she guessed it was the male she had come to see. "Tyco? Is that you?" She asked, feeling a little silly at the semi inane question. Safiya started towards the other fox, wanting to be able to see and hear him easily. "I...I came to visit, I hope you don't mind." She continued when she got closer.

"Safiya," Tyco said, a bit of incredulity coloring his voice. Despite whatever he might have thought the identity of the stranger was, he didn't really believe he would have been right! A small smile crossed his face, surprising him; it felt like he hadn't smiled in ages. He probably hadn't.
Tyco trotted forward the rest of the distance to meet the vixen. A chuckle worked it's way up from deep in his throat. "I don't mind, but I certainly didn't expect you to come so soon! I thought you'd show up mid-spring or something, when it's warmer and the view is prettier."
He looked out over at the grey ocean and colorless sky. "Well, for the most part. The ocean never changes color, really, but the sky would at least be blue. Winter takes away a lot of the colors."

Safiya fidgeted. She had left her nice, warm home because she could stand another day there. She was lonely and visiting Tyco had seemed like a good idea since she had a feeling that he was lonely too. Telling him that was a little out of the question right now, though. Safiya's ears drooped slightly for a second until he smiled and an answering smile appeared on her.
"I was getting...bored at my home. I figured a change of scenery would...lighten my mood." She explained. She looked out over the ocean as well before turning and giving Tyco a shy grin. "I think it's pretty just how it is now. A little stark, but pretty. I like the roar the ocean is making, though I don't know how you can sleep through it."
The wind ruffled through her fur, bringing the sharp cry of gulls and the tang of salt. "The water really does have salt in it, doesn't it?" She asked. She had believed him, but it was still hard to belive by someone who had only been around river and lake water.

Tyco couldn't help but laugh; it was always interesting to watch those who had never seen the ocean before. The wonder in their eyes helped him appreciate his home as though he too were seeing it for the first time.
"Ah, well, you get used to it after awhile. Soon it becomes like a lullaby that helps you fall asleep. The exception being on stormy days, but I imagine those keep people awake everywhere and not just at oceans." He turned his head towards the steely waters, and took a deep breath of the air.
"Yes, it is all always. I wouldn't recommend trying to drink it, no matter how thirsty you get," he warned. He'd done that only once, when he was still new here and hunting for watering holes; it wasn't something he'd ever want to repeat if he could avoid it.

Safiya turned back to Tyco, a sparkle in her eyes for the first time in a long time. "I would assume so. Salt makes me thirsty, I bet I could drink myself dry with this water." she said, flicking her tail mischievously. Still, there was the overwhelming urge to try it herself; that silly urge that tells kits to touch the pretty fire even after told it would hurt.
Not that she would give in to the urge, though the one prodding her to go swimming was much harder to ignore. However, it being winter and all, that was probably a bad idea too. She came during the wrong season. Safiya chuckled lightly to herself. "Yes, I suppose storm keep a lot of people up. I have to worry about the lightning setting fire to my trees."
"Would you show me around? I'd love to see more of your ocean." the black and white fox said.

Tyco chuckled, then nodded his head towards the small overhang on rock Safiya had been perched on. "Well I'm sure you got a good view from there of the shores, to see the general feel of the place." He turned, back in the direction from which he had been walking from originally, and lightly nudged Safiya to show she was to follow him.
"The view tends to be prettiest in summer, spring and autumn is when it varies," he said, starting up something of a running commentary as they began to walk down the beach shore together. "Winter, well it takes a special eye to appreciate that particular brand of beauty." His smile was a mixture of ironic and bitter, and he dipped his head in acknowledgement that Safiya would understand what he meant.
"But no matter what season it is, as long as you follow the beach you tend to come across something eventually. I've found interesting rock formations, tidal pools, even caves that are underwater at high tide that you can explore at low tide." Tyco chuckled lightly. "You'll forgive me, but as we'd have to get wet to see some of these things I'll leave it for a summer attraction!" The sparkle that had been in Safiya's eyes was now sitting in Tyco's.

Safiya nodded back, knowing what Tyco meant about the stark beauty of the winter landscape. Less than a year ago, she would have found this place rather bleak. Now she had a new perspective and was able to appriciate her surroundings.
The black and white vixen laughed. "Absolutely. I don't think getting wet would be wise in this chill. Perhaps you can show me your favorite rock formations? So long as we can see them without getting splashed." She asked, keeping pace with the male. She was talking to him, but most of her attention was still on the senery everything she saw was new to her. Even the vegetation, sparse as it was, was completely different to what she was used to.

Tyco nodded. While most of Safiya's attention was taken by the landscape, most of his attention was on her. Part of it was, of course, that he lived here. All the sights, sounds, and smells were commonplace to him now. He didn't blame Safiya though, he'd been the same way when he first moved into the area.
The other part of it was a touch of anxiety. He hadn't played host in quite a long time, if ever. He'd hoped, after his last disasterous relationship, that he'd "reformed" himself, but there was always that small fear that he might slip back into his controlling ways. While Tyco wasn't exactly keen on having a roaring social life, it would be nice not to scare away everyone who came to call.
The pair walked for perhaps ten minutes, the last minute marked with the ground startling to lazily slope upward a bit. "Almost there. You should start to see where it all starts, since most of this stuff is cliffs and overhangs. Nothing too high, but high enough that a fall would hurt. Funnily enough it's also low enough that you definetly wouldn't want to be standing here in a storm, either," Tyco added, grinning.

Safiya felt the ground start to rise and realized they'd been walking for quite a while without talking. Her head ducked self-consciously, feeling like she was being a bad guest for not paying much attention to her host. Tyco didn't seem angry though, quite the opposite actually. He probably knew how the landscape affected others. The black and white fox sent him a small, sheepish grin in return.
"Starts?" Safiya asked before they crested and she saw what Tyco was talking about. "Wow...." She turned back to Tyco and looked at him quizzically. "Too low? Do the waves reach all the way up here during a storm?" That seemed extreme to her, though she supposed they weren't too high and Tyco sounded fairly matter of fact about it.
Safiya slanted a look at Tyco and suddenly wanted to know what had happened to drive him out here. She knew something had, just as it had for her but...prying, she thought to herself, was not something one should do. "Do you stay under the trees up on the cliffs during a storm?" She laughed softly, "I can imagine how wet it gets here."

"I wouldn't say the waves reach all the way up here," Tyco began, voice drawn out and his eyes staring off to the side as he thought about what he was saying. "The spray from the waves most certainly can. That, with the rain, can make rocks quite slippery. The cliffs themselves can be windy if the breeze is coming off the ocean, and in most storms it is. It would be easy to slip. And, though I've never seen this personally, sometimes the wind can make giant waves that do overcome the cliff. Either way, if the ocean catches you you probably won't survive."
Tyco looked down at the steely waters below, breaking against the rocks and sending up a fine mist of salt spray. He knew that even in the calmest weather it was a mistake to trust the ocean; the currents that ran underneath were more deadly than the waves themselves.
He looked over at Safiya and gave her another small smile. "When storms hit I generally move off as far back into the forest as I can get. The trees provide cover from the wind and rain, and there is a natural cave or two. I don't like using them though, just in case they're connected to the ocean caves. I think I'd be quite horrified if ocean water started bubbling up in my shelter," he said, laughing.
