Esmee stretched in the sunlight of the crisp winter day, having just left the royal family's den area. Things were in a lull for the moment, so the princess decided to head towards the borders of the Coalition's lands. She had done this often lately, occasionally venturing into the Rogue Lands in hopes of finding cheetahs to bring into her family's lands. They were a strong clan, and had made recent allies, but their own numbers still needed to grow.
It also helped the cheetahess to keep her mind off her missing son. He had been gone for weeks now, and Esmee could not help but wonder if he would ever return. Shaking her head, Esmee rid herself of these thoughts. With a determined step, she approached the border of their lands, sharp eyes already scanning the land around her for any wanderers. Any cheetahs were welcome here, so long as they were cordial, willing to follow the clan's rules, and not red. Esmee was confident some would arrive any day now.

Cubs. Cubs. Noelani had only ever thought of cubs as a fleeting idea, something that would happen far down the track. Unfortunately, her playful ways with men had caught up to her and she had grown plump with cubs. Soon, her pregnancy had been over and she'd received four gifts. Four cubs. Three girls and one little boy. They were beautiful and she loved them but cubs? She wasn't ready for cubs.
She had tucked them away in a small make-shift den and was stalking through the grass, looking for food. The cubs were still feeding from her, but she needed food. She couldn't keep going on nothing. She had tried hard to stay with them. She wished their father was a round - she believed him to be the brown cheetah she spent a night with. His colours had shown through with some of the cubs, and although she wasn't sure, she just assumed it was him.
She heaved a sigh, her tired eyes scanning the landscape, hoping to find some sign of life that she might get to hunt.

Esmee was nearly at the border, when she stopped, catching the faint scent of something. It was hard to detect, but it seemed like it might be a cheetah. Quickly, Esmee ventured a few yards out into the Rogue Lands, the scent becoming stronger. She scanned the area, alert, ears flicking back and forth. Could someone really be there? Suddenly, her eye caught the light flashing off pale lavender and white fur.
Striding forward, Esmee spied a female cheetah in the grasses. Seemingly looking for something to hunt. She took a few steps closer, then not wanting the other female to think she was competition for her hunt, Esmee called out to her. "Greetings, wanderer. You near the border the Cagoule Coalition in your hunt. What are you seeking in these lands?" she asked, in a calm, welcoming tone. She hoped that the female would be friendly and possibly want to come back with her to the coalition.

Noelani startled when someone called out to her, her head jerking upright and ruining her hiding spot in the grasses - which wasn't that effective anyway, as the other feline had spotted her fairly easily. She blanched at the warning - and she did see it as a warning, in her tired mind - that she was wandering onto pridal lands.
"Apologies," Noelani said, sounding tired even though she tried to hold herself tall. The other cheetah's voice had not been aggressive, but Noelani had been fooled before by a sweet voice. "I'm simply seeking prey, of any sort. I promise I will not take much from your lands, merely a hare if I can catch one." She'd probably only grab a sick hare at this point, she mused bitterly to herself. The cubs had drained her, and she loved them, but she was getting tired of feeling drained. The energy it took to keep them and herself alive was exhausting.

Esmee frowned, realizing that the cheetahess had seen her greeting as a warning. No matter, Esmee would simply make herself clearer. Looking closer, the princess noted the inherent exhaustion of the other, yet she held herself with dignity, Esmee noted with approval. Smiling gently, she addressed the other again.
"No apologies are needed, traveler. You are welcome to whatever you may find and catch. You look quite weary, though. If you would like a safe place to stay and recover, you are welcome to come back with me to my clan to rest for as long as you please," she offered. Esmee rather liked the other cheetah, she was courteous and her light fur was pleasant. The princess wondered if she really was a wanderer, if she'd like a permanent place to stay. She hoped so, at least.
"Ah!" she exclaimed with a jolt, realizing she hadn't introduced herself. "My manners are atrocious! Please forgive me for not introducing myself yet. I am Esmee, mate of the Dauphin of the Makini Adhima, a cheetah colony. It is a pleasure to meet you."

Noelani looked surprised when the female waved away her apology, and she blinked, looking over the fellow cheetah more closely than she had before. "You are too kind," she murmured to the female and truly meaning it. As a single person, she had not noticed the often selfish nature of the rogue lands, but motherhood had opened her eyes to that too. Everyone was all for one and none for all, unless you got lucky enough to find a caring group to join.
At the introductions, Noelani had to smile. She'd been caught trespassing and yet this female - Esmee - was still being so kind about it. "A pleasure to meet you, Esmee," she said, with a smile. "My name is Noelani," she hesitated. "Mother of four. Rogue." She shrugged a little, she had no where near the fancy title that Esmee did to introduce herself with, but she liked it none the less.
She paused, glancing back the way she had come. A cheetah colony? Perhaps...Perhaps that might be a good place to stay while the cubs were young - just while they were young, of course. So she didn't need to stress over them being alone in the rogue lands. A caln would be much better for them. "Is...is the colony...kind?" She queried, swaying lightly on her paws but remaining firmly upright.

Esmee smiled at the other cheetah. "Please, it is nothing. Merely the courtesy all people, even strangers, should be extended," the royal replied, looking kindly at Noelani. Esmee's smile widened at the introduction, and she didn't seem to react at all to the announcement of the four cubs, although she did note it. "The pleasure is mine, Noelani. If you don't mind my asking, are you alone with your cubs?" The princess did not want to pry, but she knew the information would be necessary, although it was already implied.
"Yes, the colony is very kind," Esmee said to the light-furred cheetah. "As I said, you are welcome to come with me back to the colony with your cubs, for however long you like. You would not be expected to become a member of the colony, but if you wanted to, it would be a joy to have you. It is very safe, and we have plenty of game. Even if you wanted to stay as long as it took to raise your cubs in safety and then leave, that would be your choice. Whatever you feel you need, you are welcome to."
Esmee saw her swaying on her feet, and approached the other slowly, not wanting to startle her. "Are you feeling ill?" she asked softly, concerned. This poor mother, it seemed as if she had been leading a difficult life up until this point.

Noelani was impressed by the kindly attitude, but it was mostly a surprise. Rogues did not always have such a polite code of conduct that this female seemed to abide by. It was truly a nice change. She didn’t look embarrassed at the question which was asked of her, tilting her chin slightly. “Yes, I am alone. Their father was not the staying kind.” Perhaps he would have been, had he known about the cubs, but she had not been able to find him once they’d arrived, and it had been simply her, and those four precious cubs.
She listened with obvious interest as she explained the colony, and extended the offer. She hesitated though. Did she want her cubs to be raised in a colony? It would be safe, yes, and they appeared quite kind. It would take pressure off of her, and she would be able to hunt and take care of them properly, if there were others around to tend to them when she couldn’t. It was a very tempting idea.
The question of her health made her glance down at her paws, embarrassed at the sway in her form. “No, I am healthy,” a tad malnourished at that point, but not sickly, “merely tired,” she explained, offering a slightly strained smile.
She paused for a moment, and then firmed her resolve. “If you are serious about your offer, I think…that I would appreciate the opportunity of safety for my cubs. I can’t guarantee that we will stay for life, but…” she glanced back towards where she had hidden her cubs. She was tired of being tired, but she wanted those cubs to live well, which had previously meant expending all her gathered energy on them.
