It all started with a song on the radio while she was working on the Vortex. She had heard the song before, but she had never really listened to the lyrics so much. All she had ever noticed was the sweet guitar solo. Yet for some reason, the words finally managed to tease her ears into listening.
When there's lightning
You know it always brings me down
Cause it's free and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found
I cry out for magic
I feel it dancing in the light
It was cold, lost my hold
To the shadows of the night
No sign of the morning coming
You've been left on your own
Like a Rainbow in the Dark
A Rainbow in the Dark
Do your demons
Do they ever let you go
When you've tried do they hide deep inside
Is it someone that you know
You're just a picture
you're an image caught in time
We're alive you and I
We're words without a rhyme
There's no sign of the morning coming
You've been left on your own
Like a Rainbow in the Dark
Just a Rainbow in the Dark
When I see lightning
You know it always brings me down
Cause it's free and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found
Feel the magic
I feel it floating in the air
But it's fear and you'll hear it calling you beware
Look Out!
There's no sight of the morning coming
There's no sign of the day
You've been left on your own
Like a Rainbow
Like a Rainbow in the Dark Yeah . . .
Your a Rainbow in the Da a a a a ark
Just a Rainbow in the Dark
No sign of the morning
Just a Rainbow in the Dark
It was one of those moments where after she heard the song, she had to back away from her work. She set down the tool that had been at hand, then just sat there for several minutes. The world was full of coincidences, but this one was just eerie in a sense. And unless the band (Dio as the radio personality announced) had some sort of magical powers of their own to describe the girl's homeworld, it was just a coincidence.
She couldn't just stay there working on her car like nothing had happened. "And here I was hopin' t'have a normal weekend" she scoffed as she got up to her feet and closed up shop. Though in reality, it wasn't like any of her neighbors would try to haul off that hunk of junk in the garage. She ran up the stairs, then closed her bedroom door, locking it behind her. Neither of her parents were around, but it was always good to be prepared. Just in case. Blinds were shut, and magical phrases were shouted, changing the girl into a senshi.
"...let's go home..." With her phone at hand, the girl abandoned her bedroom and found herself back in space in the darkness.
She had no real objective for her visit like the last time she had come to the Asteroid of Iris. This visit had been on a whim. A simple music-induced whim. She honestly had no place she needed to go, but her feet wouldn't let her simply remain in place. So her white boots began to walk her in a line, then turned her around and walked back.
Sailor Iris paced as she seemed to think over the song she had heard. She only vaguely remembered the lyrics now (since she wasn't exactly able to remember everything after the first time listening to the lyrics), but the few lines she had managed to grasp onto played in her head like a broken record.
"Move forward!"
The senshi's broken record seemed to halt as those words rang in her mind. Her feet also slowed until they came to a stop in the dark sand. Her eyes glanced around and found she was suddenly surrounded by large carts. Several had what seemed to be camels or llamas hooked up to the wooden vehicles. The thing that was concerning was the fact that these carts weren't still. They were moving, getting pulled by the beasts of burden. They were moving fast and straight for the eternal senshi.
"OH SH*T!!!!!!!" she shouted, attempting to move out of the way, but it was too late. One of the carts just about hit her, except there was one thing missing. Actual impact. The cart literally went right through her without any consequence.
"...O... ohhhh... f*ck! This is so hard t'get used to!" Straightening up her form so she could watch, she observed as numerous carts moved onward, several colliding into her as she watched.
Eventually, she heard the voice of her past self calling out. "Take care, and I look forward to our next meeting!" Eventually, all of the carts seemed to have abandoned the area, the only hint anything had been there before being the remembered cloud of dust.
"...wait... where... where are they going?!" Iris' eyes glanced in the direction the carts had gone, then looked around where she was standing, as if trying to find someone, anyone to ask the question to. "Seriously... where the hell are they going?!"
There wasn't an answer to her question. Just 7 haunting words. "This is how it's supposed to be."
"What the HELL?!! What is this sh*t?!! Did they seriously just leave you here?!! Why the hell would they leave you here by yourself?!!" Her feet began to pace about again. Considering what she remembered last time, none of this made sense. What happened to all of the festivities?! Hadn't Iris been the center of attention before? A celebrity?! Did these people just cast aside the senshi like she meant nothing?!
You've been left on your own
Like a Rainbow in the Dark
Finding that this trip had not even remotely cleared her head in the slightest, the Senshi of Rainbows stamped her feet in the sand before pulling out her cell phone. Maybe coming back here was not the best idea.
"F*ck this sh*t..." She left the asteroid even more confused and riled up than she had been before. So much for using her homeworld as an escape.
