 Late afternoon brought the soft hum of crickets as Ayelen made her way along the riverside. The water made no sound as it moved slowly along, matching the mare's steady pace. Quiet days had followed in the long absence of her last foals; she spent her days alongside her mate traveling across the land. On a whim she had left- for only a moment- to stretch her wings and legs before bunkering down for the evening.
She paused, hooves finding an exceptionally squishy place on the riverbed, and moved around it to get to the edge of the water. For a moment she stared in at her own reflection on the surface before dipping her nose against it. It was cool compared to the warm sun on her back.
Not too long ago she would have had foals running around her and in the water; it seemed strange that all of a sudden it was so quiet and so peaceful without them.

Now in this new location, she looked around, wondering where exactly she was... if she knew. She didn't. That wasn't such a bad thing, perhaps she could make this her and her expected foals' new home? Not thinking too much on it, she slowly moved her way to the river that she saw in the distance, having giving herself a large thirst.
It took her some time, but soon, she got closer to the riverbed. Once again, she stopped. It seemed that she wouldn't be the only one enjoying a drink. There was another, a mare by the looks of it, taking a drink from the water. Nickering softly, she continued toward the river so she could get a drink herself.

Her ears pricked forward. Ayelen's eyes lifted from the water, head rising as the other mare approached her. A smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. She and her mate hadn't stumbled across anyone else in this area for some time now.. it was nice to see a different face. Her gaze ran over the other mare quickly, noticing the larger curve to her belly. Foals? What could she be doing by herself if she was carrying them? Her heart broke for her. Surely she must have someone to turn to.
"Hello," she called, voice gentle. "Here for some quiet time on your own?" The question seemed innocent enough; Ayelen was never one to be blunt, especially not to a complete stranger.
Were they really strangers, though? She was a mother, and the younger mare was certainly on the way to motherhood herself. Kindred spirits, perhaps. Maybe it wasn't her first brood.. they could even swap stories over a drink.

As Marsiela approached the water, she gave the other mare a small smile, but was generally going to go about her own business. But it seemed that the mare thought otherwise. Reaching the river's edge, she stopped and bowed her head. "H-hello." For the first time in her life, the young mare felt nervous upon meeting someone new. Usually, she would greet someone with anxious vigor, but now, she seemed rather restrained. Perhaps it was current self-fretting that was giving her doubts.
The question was simple enough, but, she wasn't sure if her answer was. So, as best as she could, she gave a simple answer. "Well... I guess you can say that." With that, she slowly lowered her head to the water to take a well needed drink.
