It had taken a lot of work to get any information out of Terreis at all about his newly-discovered family, and what information he had was still filled with a lot of blanks. For example. He knew that he had another daughter, and a son, and that they lived in another pack which was inhabited by warriors.
He had also learned, through his interaction with his packmates, that the warriors were all female. And that they, sometimes, would bring their male pups here.
And that thought unnerved him. So he had begun to question around, because -- whether he'd ever known him or not -- Adonai was starting to feel rather concerned as to precisely what sort of pack his only son was in.
So, despite fearing a bit for his safety -- but only a bit, he, however wrongly, suspected that Terreis would never actually attack him -- the mostly-white wolf had begun badgering his daughter with questions.
And, eventually, it had paid off. Mostly because when he told her nonchalantly that he had figured out the way to Antianeira -- having pieced it together from conversation with other wolves in the pack -- and that he was going to go explore it himself, she had been rather quick to insist that he not do so.
And so, much to her annoyance, she had assented to take him.
Altogether, Adonai was quite pleased with himself.

Why? Why did she ever even suggest such a stupid thing as leading her father on a trip to visit her siblings? Really, she should have just let him go on his own, then he would have had his a** handed to him, and likely by Varia, and then maybe he would learn to listen to her. Yet, a small part of her, obviously very small as she would never admit to it, didn't want to see him hurt. It was similar to the way she protected Iosef with her life, though at least with Iosef she did truly care about him and openly showed it. Plus really any excuse to go and visit the Sisters was good for her, especially since YMCA was slowly turning into a very male populated pack. And being surrounded by males all day, every day was beginning to wear on her nerves and spur her anger even more so.
So she had offered to lead Adonai to see Iosef if only to get away from all those males for a while. During the trip she remained quiet, not wishing to share too many words with her still estranged father, at least until they were almost at the border when she turned around and looked at him for the first time she they had departed from YMCA.
"You don't belong here, so you best listen." She would only give these instructions once, and if he didn't listen...well she would not save his a** if he got in trouble. "You are below all of the Sisters and you had better well act like it. If I catch you doing anything wrong don't be surprised if I beat you down to your proper level." Terreis may have come along to protect her father, but she wasn't about to let him get away with things either.
Turning she began to pad off again, glancing up at the sun to judge the time of day and where Iosef was likely to be. Hopefully they could get in and out before Varia caught wind of Adonai's arrival. Terreis was not in the mood to have an all out fight with Varia again, her leg had only recently fully healed and she was not willing to let it get torn apart again so soon...Adonai's leg on the other hand, well if it got chewed off he still had three more he could use.

"Yes ma'am," he said, with only a hint of irony. It wasn't that he didn't take her warnings seriously -- only that, well, Adonai wasn't apt to take much of anything too seriously in his life. He'd gotten into his share of scrapes. And, after all, Terreis's mother had been a member of this very pack...and he'd gotten along just fine with her. His golden eyes glittered, but he managed to keep a smile from his maw. "I promise I'll behave."
Iosef was, really, a bit of a mess. He was keeping himself occupied lately, of course -- it helped tremendously to have both his own pups and his nephews to look after -- and given Tui's disappearance he had plenty of extra work to do.
And altogether, it was for the best, as busy paws kept Iosef from thinking too terribly much. And keeping to his duties kept him out of Varia's path, for the most part, which he was always quite keen to do.
Unfortunately today he had no such luck.
Chimera -- who had taken to wandering at night, much to Iosef's dismay -- had found his way into the training grounds, where Iosef found him early in the morning on his way to his duties. The little pup hadn't caused any harm, really (aside from getting rather dirty from scuffling about in the dirt) but it was the situation that bothered him. His youngest son showed entirely too much interest in the warrior lifestyle, and it would cause nothing but trouble for him. Maybe Patroclus could get by with various extracurricular lessons, given who his father was. But Chimera had no business "training" himself at night.
Thank the gods Iosef had found him before anybody else did! Chimera was of the opinion that Father was making way too big a deal of things.
And he certainly didn't think that having to be in his father's shadow all day was a suiting punishment. He'd learned his lesson, he'd go back to the den and behave himself, he promised; he didn't have to be out here in the hot morning sun watching his dad clean up the territory and kill bees and whatever else he was doing! This was so unfair!
It didn't occur to Chimera that his father had his best interests in mind -- that, for example, if Varia had found him instead that he'd have been in big-big trouble.
So the patchy little wolf followed his dad around grudgingly.
At least he'd kept his word to Isobel and hadn't tattled about who was teaching him things!

Though a growl rumbled in Terreis throat at Adonai's words she said nothing else to him. Simply she led the way into the pack lands, she knew that if the Sisters saw her, save for perhaps Varia, they would let her through without much fuss, maybe stop and look. Even so her senses were on full alert as she padded silently along, Adonai trailing behind her.
For once Iosef was not exactly where she had expected him to be. It was strange but she made no comment on it, instead she merely picked up her brothers scent, and that of one of her nephews, and followed it towards the central pack area. When her eyes first settled upon the familiar pelt of her brother a ways up Terreis fur stood on end. The one reason she had agreed to show Adonai the way is because she worried how Iosef would react if he showed up alone...but now that she was here with him Terreis still worried what Iosef would say and do. So she did the most logical thing, bringing her paws to a stop Terreis blocked the way with her body and looked back at Adonai.
"Stay here." She told him in a quiet voice. "It is best that I go alone first." Terreis did not stick around for an answer but would be extremely pissed if Adonai didn't listen to her, it might even provoke her enough to attack him in front of Iosef. Wouldn't that be a way to start the family reunion, attacking their father before Iosef knew his identity. Stepping out through the trees Terreis hurried over to where Iosef was. "Iosef." She called to him as she got close. "We need to talk about something." Her eyes settled on Chimera for a moment and then back to Iosef. "It's important."

Adonai craned his neck, trying to catch a glimpse of his son around Terreis, but failing for the most part. He did see a flash of calico fur, and then a little ball of multi-colored fluff, but then Terreis blocked his view entirely. He huffed a bit petulantly. "All right," he said, ears folding back to his skull. He wondered if this was a trap -- if Terreis was leaving him here at the mercy of hidden assailants. He wouldn't put it past her. He kind of wished, now, that he'd told someone back home where he was going, in case he never returned.
But he kept to his word, and waited -- more or less patiently -- for her return.
Iosef jolted -- oh god it's Varia! -- before her scent caught up with him, and he relaxed a little. On seeing his favorite sister, the tension in Iosef's chest unclenched slightly....but then tightened, again, with the look on her face. "What's wrong?" he asked, immediately, his thoughts immediately whirring with unpleasant possibilities.
Was Iosef growing more paranoid with age? Why, yes, it would certainly seem so.
Chimera's tail wagged with recognition at the sight of aunt Terreis, but he was particularly intrigued by the other wolf that came with her. He could smell him, and it was a different smell than usually clung to his aunt's fur. He knew by scent (though not by sight) all of his cousins and Derecho, for they all were about the same...but this new odor was quite foreign to his sensitive little nose, and it interested him.
Peering around the legs of the grown-ups, he caught sight of a flash of white, and his brow furrowed interestedly. Without warning -- Chimera was feeling rather naughty and rebellious today, it would seem -- the pup blew past his aunt and started for the stranger.

Maybe she was reading into Iosef's subtle movements and words but Terreis could swear he seemed a bit more paranoid than normal. Yes, Iosef was always a bit jumpy but today he seemed even more so. As her mouth opened up to answer his question Chimera burst past her, likely straight for Adonai. She would not allow such a thing to happen. While Terreis did not actively train with the Sisters anymore that didn't mean she was slow to react. Instantly she spun around and gave chase to the pup, it took only a few strides for her to catch up to him and trip him with her paw. Without giving a reason why or acknowledging Adonai's hidden presence she picked up the pup by the scruff of the neck and carried him back to Iosef.
Setting Chimera down she placed a paw firmly on his tail, he wasn't going to get anywhere anytime soon if she had anything to say about it. With the minor interruption dealt with Terreis turned her attention back to Iosef. "Nothing's wrong." She assured him, though wasn't entirely sure that was true.
"I'm just going to come out and say it." She announced figuring it was best to not beat around the bush. "There is a wolf in the trees behind me, I brought him to see you. Iosef, it may be hard to hear but he, Adonai, is our father." She paused for a moment to allow that to sink in before continuing. "He came to YMCA a while back and only recently has learned about you and Varia. I didn't want to bring him here but..." Terreis trailed off not really sure what to say, with a shake of her head she continued. "Do you want to see him? If not I will drive him off." It was clear by her tone of voice that Terreis was not happy with the prospect of Adonai being around, not just in him seeing Iosef but the knowledge of knowing their father at all.

Chimera squeaked in protest at being captured, but immediately fell limp under Terreis's grip and didn't resist even once she put him down. He hung his head, not in shame but in defeat. Nothing was going to go right for him today, he could already tell.
In the bush, Adonai busied himself with taking in the sights and smells of the new place. It did smell overbearingly female. He would have thought -- considering the prospect -- that this would be a better thing than it was; but now, in the situation, he discovered he didn't particularly like the scent. It was muddied up with too much aggression. He suspected none of the females here acted like females, anyway -- just males in different bodies, all raised hackles and rules and such. Quite unfortunate.
Something rustled nearby, and he tried to catch a peek, but couldn't see much of anything really. Ah well. Surely this whole thing couldn't take that long.
"Chimera!" Iosef barked, and narrowed his eyes warningly. Terreis had him in a flash, but the look that Iosef gave his son was one that said, in no uncertain terms, that the pup would get a proper earful when they got back to the den. "Sorry, Sister, he's been..." gah, what had he been? "...Well, a son. You know how it is."
He sighed, a long-suffering sort of sigh, and then raised his eyes to meet hers as she spoke. He blinked. Whatever he'd been expecting to hear, it was most certainly not that. "....our father?" He reiterated, a bit dumbly. How was he supposed to react to that? It had never even really crossed his mind that Iosef had a father, much less that he'd ever have the occasion to meet him, and now faced rather abruptly with that prospect he was, in a word, utterly dumbfounded. "...how do you know...?"

Terreis understood Iosef's comment about Chimera being a son, her own sons had acted in similar ways at such an age. Still she was not willing to release her hold on Chimera's tail just yet, even if he seemed like he was willing to stay put now. "It's complicated." Terreis first explained, in truth she wasn't sure exactly how to tell Iosef how she knew, and the details that she was aware of from her questioning Adonai were not all appropriate to say in front of the pup. "I just...know. I made sure. You know I wouldn't lie to you about something like this."
Her eyes glanced behind her, and though he had stayed where she told him to Terreis would catch a glimpse of Adonai within the trees and bushes. As she looked back at Iosef she let out a deep sigh. "I'm not happy with it, I never wanted him in my life even when I didn't know him. But there is little I can do about that now, he seems determined to stay in YMCA." Pausing for a minute Terreis licked her lips in uncertainty. "Do...you want me to send him away?" She would have no problem running Adonai off and in fact almost wished that Iosef would tell her to do so, it would get out some of the frustration she felt towards the white wolf.

"No...no, I think I'd like to meet him," Iosef said. He didn't know why he said that. Perhaps he was feeling a little lonely. Perhaps, now that he was a father, he wanted to see what it was like. Maybe he was just curious. And maybe, somewhere, he wanted to see how much like his father he was.."He's come a long way, it would be rude not to humor him."
Not that a warrior would care about being rude to some strange male -- father or not -- but Iosef was not in the business of angering anyone if he could help it. Besides, this wasn't the kind of information you could learn and then disregard. Someone like this couldn't just appear in your life only to leave again without being spoken to!
Gods, he wished Seraphin were here right now. She'd understand what was going through his mind and might be able to explain it better to his sister.
Chimera looked up at Terreis -- upside down and backwards, given his position beneath her paw, he could barely make out more than her chin -- and his tail tried to wag. "Dad has a dad, too?" he asked, completely baffled by the concept. Chimera had no idea what 'grandparents' were, having never had any until precisely this moment, and the idea flabbergasted him.

Well damn. Looks like Terreis would need to find a way to work out her frustration later. Maybe a good training session, though the thought of leaving Adonai alone with Iosef was enough to push that thought from her mind. Withholding any comments she may have been thinking of in response to Iosef Terreis looked down at Chimera. "Yes, in a way." Adonai may be their father, but that didn't mean she had to accept him, and neither did Iosef if it came down to it. Should things look like they were not working out then Terreis would intervene instantly. Turning her head Terreis glanced back to where Adonai was still waiting, it almost, almost made her smile to think he was listening to her commands like a slave.
"Adonai, get over here." There was certainly a harshness in her voice, no hint of love like there should be between a father and child. Nope, to her at this moment Adonai was just another slave to be bossed around, the fact that they were related to each other didn't matter. She waited for Adonai to do as she told him and once he was close enough, though she would make sure he didn't get too close right away, she did the introductions. "Adonai, this is Iosef." She motioned with her muzzle to her brother. "And his son Chimera." Terreis made sure to put a bit of extra pressure on the pups tail before releasing her hold on him, it was a silent way of telling him to behave and stick to his proper place in the pack. Terreis may love her brother, and her nephew to a slightly lesser extent, but she would not accept any improper behavior from either of them, even given the current situation they were in.
"Now make it quick." She told Adonai with a hint of anger in her voice. The sooner she could get him to leave the pack the better.

Adonai hated to seem eager, and so he obeyed her after just a moment's hesitation, sauntering into view of the others with a rather un-slave-like demeanor. He paused some distance away, though, catching the gleam in her eyes, and offered a good-natured smile to the others. This whole situation was utterly surreal. Iosef. Chimera. Good names.
His eyes traveled thoughtfully over his son's body, brow furrowing. Why did he carry himself this way? The silky-furred calico wolf had a strong frame, Adonai thought, one that could be quite handsome if he carried himself proudly -- and yet he nearly cowered. And he was trembling! How very strange.
His eyes -- and the puppy's eyes, he noticed -- were the color that Adonai's mother's had been, and it shocked him. That, more than anything, made his insides churn a little. Terreis may have been the spitting image of her mother, but there was a fair amount of Adonai -- body-wise, at any rate -- in his son, and it stopped him cold. Up til now, this whole thing was almost a game. Not quite real to him. Something of an extended joke, perhaps.
"...Iosef," he said, his voice catching in his throat although he didn't quite mean for it to. He rather wished Terreis weren't here. If he'd had any plans at all about meeting his stranger of a son, they wouldn't have been quite like this.
He dropped his eyes to the pup, who was looking back at him much more eagerly than anybody else was. What a strange-looking little fellow, he thought. He wondered what the mother must look like to create such an interesting child.
Gods, the tension here was too much for him to stand.
Iosef never knew how to react to males that weren't slaves.
For the one thing, he was constantly torn between being naturally submissive -- and also being, as a rule, one of the leaders amongst those his own rank. He also was doubly awkward around him due to his...abnormality...and it made him second-guess everything for fear that whoever he spoke with would see right through him. Meeting Derecho had been pretty difficult.
Now, however, the awkwardness of the whole situation was unbearable. "Adonai," he responded, and was silent for longer than was comfortable. "...Terreis tells me you're my father."
And, looking at the other wolf, he couldn't really be skeptical. They weren't identical, but they were close enough to know it couldn't be a coincidence. This was too bizarre for him. He, too, wished that Terreis weren't here, as he had a thousand questions for the other male that he had no way of asking in front of her; not that he was sure he could even put them into words even if she weren't here.
All this grown-up talking was making Chimera squirmy. He was cranky -- having not slept much, after all, and then not getting his way about anything all day -- and the fact that everybody was acting super weird only succeeded in making him all the more irritable.
Fed by this irritability, all of his curiosity vanished and the multi-hued pup pressed back between Terreis's forelegs, hiding shyly behind her.
Oh for the love of...."Nice place, this," Adonai said, rather heroically struggling on to make conversation. "Do I get a tour?"

Once again Terreis was thinking this whole thing was a huge mistake. She should have never told Adonai anything about Iosef and Varia, nor should she have agreed to bring him up here. He could have just come on him own, had his a** kicked and leave it at that. Too late to go back on it now. Sure she could abandon the three males right now and forget all about it. But Terreis did not trust Adonai at all and leaving him alone with Iosef was a definite no at this point. Even Chimera didn't seem to open now, and the normal male hatred Terreis harbored was pushed down a bit as she let the pup hide behind her forelegs.
Adonai's comment made her snort a bit. "No tour. I didn't agree to bring you here to see the land, you wanted to see Iosef and here he is." Besides Terreis did not want to play tour guide to her father, nor did she want the pack to see or know of her father outside of Iosef and Chimera. Najara was as always being a bit of a rebel. Mother was busy with all the other pups under her care that she was able to sneak away with relative ease. Though she knew it likely wouldn't be long before she was tracked down by either her mother or one of the other pack members and returned to the den. For now though she let her paws carry her where they wished to go.
It did not take her long to come across some familiar smells and voices, though there was an unfamiliar males scent mixed it. That wasn't one of her cousin, at least she was fairly certain it wasn't. Curiosity got the better of her and Najara bounded into the clearing to see her father, brother, aunt Terreis and a strange male. There seemed to be some tension between them all, that once again intrigued her. Padding up to the four wolves Najara let her eyes gaze over them all but stayed quiet. She liked aunt Terreis, and always enjoyed whenever she came to visit.

Najara! Chimera liked Isobel better, but he liked his other sister a lot, too, and right now she was exactly what he wanted to see. He poked his head out from between Terreis's forepaws, and almost darted out to greet his sister -- but then remembered how that had gone the last time he'd tried to run anywhere. Instead, he said -- rather more loudly than he needed to -- "Hey, Najara! Dad's got a dad, too! Isn't that weird?"
Iosef's brow raised. "I don't think you would like it very much," he said, thinking rather bitterly on the last time he'd brought a strange wolf into the territory. His eyes flicked to Terreis. The sad thing is, he really did want to talk to this wolf -- to see how it was he could stand so proud, to hear stories about his mother, to get a glimpse of what life was like on the outside -- but he knew such a thing was impossible in the current circumstances.
He started to speak again, then noticed Najara's appearance, and sighed. Great. Now both troublemakers were out and about. "Najara, does your mother know where you are?" He asked, reflexively. How many times had he said that sentence before?
Terreis was doing a really great job in leeching all of the joy out of the occasion, wasn't she? Adonai's ears gave an agitated little flick. "Right you are, Terreis. Foolish of me to even suggest it." He looked back to his son, scrutinizing. He sensed an undercurrent of sarcasm in the wolf's voice -- just the quietest hint of sardonic humor -- and it resonated with him. That, too, must be from his side of the family.
When Chimera barked, Adonai shifted his attentions to the little female that arrived, and he smiled fondly at her. "Well, hello there," he said, gently. Well, that settled it. Mother must be teal-colored. "And aren't you a lovely little thing. Najara, they call you?"
Maybe the pups would be more receptive to him than the adults. His other grandchildren seemed to like him well enough. ...Well, most of them, anyway.

Terreis had to bit her tongue quite hard to keep her from letting out a backlash of comments at Adonai, some likely would have been thrown at Iosef as well, though those would have been more unintentional. And as if things couldn't get any worse now another one of Iosef's pups was added to the mix. Sighing Terreis gave her head a slight shake, all they needed now was for Varia to show up and this whole 'happy' reunion could come full circle.
Though of all the wolves present she was of the same rank as Najara, the balance in power was slowly shifting back to where it should be. "Najara." Terreis said in greeting.
Najara let out a half laugh at Chimera's statement as she came to a stop beside him and Terreis. "Of course he does. Everyone has a father and mother." Silly Chimera. Her attention turned to her father and she shot him a guilty smile. "Not exactly. But she was busy and I didn't want to be a bother, so I left." Najara gave her head a firm nod as if confirmed that was the right thing to do.
Her attention was now drawn to the strange male, who oddly seemed to look somehow familiar, though she knew for certain she had never seen him before. Maybe that's why everyone seemed so stressed. "Yeah that's right I'm Najara." Her chest puffed out a bit in pride, though she made no reaction to his other comment. "You don't belong here." She finally stated after a few hesitant moments of looking at Adonai, it wasn't meant to be offensive, she was just stating the facts as she saw them - to her Adonai looked out of place here. One day she would learn to keep such comments to herself.
Varia had been quick to pick up on the fact that a male was in the lands. Curses, the damn new blood couldn't even do a simple task as keep their borders secure. Once again she would need to need to pick up the slack, and yes the Queen would hear about this. Traveling across the lands quickly Varia stumbled upon the scene in no time. For a brief moment Varia kept hidden within the dense brush as she surveyed the scene. What she saw, and moments later heard, sickened her to the core. Not only was Terreis sitting there with Iosef and one of his sons, but there was another male with them. Had Terreis let this male in? Of course she had, and that pissed Varia off.
Her anger then came to the absolute boiling point when she heard the words uttered by the color splashed pup. This male was their father. No, this would not do, he was not allowed to be here and the words that Najara spoke about him not belonging her was like music the Varia's ears even though she knew the pup didn't mean it that way. Stepping out from the trees Varia was growling before she was in full sight of the others. "Whats this?" She snarled. "A family reunion? Such a shame I wasn't invited." Her tone was utterly sarcastic and hate filled. "How dare you bring him here sister."
- Son of a b***h. Terreis realized only a moment before Varia stepped out that her sister was here. Well this is going all to hell so damn quickly. Instantly she was on her paws, placing herself in front of Iosef and his pups, Adonai well he could protect himself. Of course she made sure to toss him a pissed off glance. "I told you it was a bad idea to bring you here." But then her attention turned to Varia. "You wouldn't have wanted to be invited anyways Varia. Now play nice and say hello to our father." There was more than a hint of sarcasm in her voice at that moment. She didn't care what Varia did to Adonai, but she would protect Iosef and the pups with her life if needed.

Chimera started to explain to Najara, who he was quite sure didn't understand at all, but instead squeaked in terror and darted back between Terreis's legs. Chimera hadn't a real reason to be afraid of Varia just yet, but he had the sinking fear that she'd somehow figured out that he thought of her as "a varia-monster" and would gobble him up.
Adonai was not in the business of submitting to strange wolves, especially not strange wolves half his age who happened to be his daughter. So when Varia approached, he held his ground, standing tall and proud, eyes still glinting. "Ahh, you must be Varia," he said, rather cheerfully. "You look even more like your mother."
An odd shift in power dynamic happened, just then.
Iosef was a male, to be sure, and a slave -- but he was the head of the slaves (in all but title, anyway...Achilles certainly hadn't taken the position) and he felt no apprehension now about putting the other wolf in his place, regardless of circumstance. "Quiet!" He barked, growling at his father. "Varia is head-warrior and deserving of your respect. Keep your head down, where it belongs!"
He chastised Adonai the way he would any new slave. In part, because it was instinctive; partly because he believed it; and, in part, because he knew it was crucial to Adonai's survival and perhaps even his own. He'd seen his sisters fight over him recently enough to know Terreis was outmatched, if only because Varia was so ruthless. And while he may hate his oldest sister, he also knew his place.
He did, however, hope very much that either the queen or Achilles or someone equally empowered was within shouting distance, in case things got ugly.
