Words couldn't describe how excited Kaminari was when the car crested a hill and King's city was on the horizon. She'd moved away in grade school, leaving her best friend behind. But with the divorce finalized, and the custody battle over, Kaminari and her mother, Karita Laxdale, were moving back. Things were different. She was different. No longer was she Kaminari Asa. With the divorce, she took her mother's maiden name as hers. In the years away, she had grown from a child in beginner gymnastics into a rather accomplished gymnast for her age. Of course, she was no longer the gangly awkward child she had been, but was now a very well rounded young lady.

The first thing Nari wanted to do when she arrived was run down the familiar old streets, but her mother quickly put her to work unpacking the car. After whining about doing so, she was allowed to go just so she would stop annoying her mother.

Her destination was like a second home to her... her second family. The people she loved dearly as a child, oh, she hoped they still lived there. When she arrived at the doorstep, she hesitated only half a heartbeat before knocking.

No one was home.

But there were tell tale signs that who she wanted to see still lived here, so she smoothed the wrinkles out of her jeans and sat on the front step and waited.

The Nobuyuki home still looked much like it had. The yard was well maintained but sparse. It was more open lawn than anything. Unfortunately for Nari none of the Nobuyikis would be found at home on a weekend if they could help it.

After some time passed Takuma was the first to come home. At first he did not notice the girl sitting on his front step. However it did startle him once he was closer and it was suddenly apparent. He was certain no one else would be back until after dark. Thus a sudden guest was completely unexpected. For the moment he did not recognize his long lost friend at all. So much time had passed and she looked so different now. "... Can I help you?"

It had been a pretty long wait and Kaminari no longer had the ants and ladybugs to entertain herself while waiting. She had nearly fallen asleep waiting as it got later, but the voice snapped her out of her near sleep. Standing up she quickly remembered her manners and bowed. "Sorry for the intrusion." She said hurriedly. The voice was familiar, but not. I almost sounded like Mr. Nobuyuki, like 'kuma-papa' only not quite. The well rehearsed introduction she had prepared flew out of her head and she suddenly had no idea what to say. Slowly righting herself, she looked at the young man who had addressed her. He for sure wasn't old enough to be kuma-papa, but... kuma-chan had always been taller then her when she was little. He had been her 'big brother.'

"...I... I came looking..." Now she sounded foolish, stuttering and tripping over her words like this. "Takuma." Well at least that word came out right. "That is, I'm looking for Takum Nobiyuki."

The politeness of the girl had been surprising to Takuma. For someone that had been trespassing and loitering on their doorstop for who knows long she had some sense of manners. He wondered how long she had been there.

He could not help but snicker when he heard her say his name with such doubt. Why would someone looking for him in person not know who he was. He could understand if she was a piece of mail or something but she was a person! "I don't know why you are looking for Takuma Nobuyuki... but that would be me." He debated asking the girl if she needed any help again as he watched her frowning slightly. Takuma also was wondering if she was going to move or if he suddenly needed her permission to go inside his own home.

Hearing his name, Nari's face light up like a Christmas tree. And oh, she moved alright, pretty much launching herself at the boy. "Kuma-chan!" It may have been an invasion of personal space, but that wasn't really on her mind right now as she hugged Takuma. "It's so good to see you again." She hugged him tight for a few moments before back peddling and clearing her throat sheepishly.

"You... I don't know if you remember me or not... I'm Kaminari-" She wondered for a moment if she should have given her father's last name or not. It wasn't her name anymore, and they were pretty young, he might not remember it anyways. Oh well. She let it go and stood there, happy, nervous, excited, all bundled up in one body that just wanted to explode and hug Takuma again and not let him go.

Kuma-chan? Hearing that old name left a confused doubtful look on his face. Only one person he had known called him that. While Takuma's brain was still busy trying to comprehend who this was the girl suddenly tackled and latched onto him. He stumbled back a few steps after the initial impact and just froze. What was going on?!

As soon as the hug began it was over. Takuma still felt bewildered and brushed at his shirt trying to straighten it. He wanted to delay and give himself a chance to understand what was happening. "... Nari?" He seemed to take far too long actually responding to her. Was this really the sweet little Nari he had known? This couldn't be his little sister towering over him. That... That just wasn't fair. "Why did you have to leave? I didn't think you were ever going to come back."

He remembered her! Nari smiled and looked like she was about to cry happily. "Yes! It is me! I mean, it's Nari." Her smile fell a little and she looked vaguely like a kicked puppy when he asked why she left.

"I didn't have a choice. Mom's job moved us and I had to go. ... I would have stayed if I could have! I didn't like leaving. I missed you and wrote to you every week." Of course, she had asked her dad to mail them. Maybe that was why she never got a reply. "I... I wasn't sure I'd ever come back. But after my parents got divorced, mom and I came back. I'm so glad you're still here!" She couldn't resist hugging him again. He may be smaller then her now, but Takuma was still her big brother.

When Takuma saw Nari look like she was going to tear up he was terrified. The last thing he wanted to do was make his long lost friend start bawling on the porch. "You wrote every week?" Takuma could not help but feel disappointed hearing that. He would have loved keeping in touch with her but they had been waiting for a letter with Nari's new address after they left. What could have gone wrong? "I'm sorry Nari. There is no way I would have ignored a letter and not responded with something... We didn't get any of them." When she had hugged him again Takuma was not as startled as the first time. He was however fairly reluctant to let go.

Takuma fished out his house keys and held them up hoping Nari would momentarily get out of the way. "Please come inside Nari." He had not seen any unfamiliar cars around and had no idea how long she had been here waiting. "You are always welcome no matter how long you were gone"

Nari shook his head. "It's not your fault." What was important now was the fact she was home again. She stepped back when he fished out his key. "Thanks, Kuma-chan. It's nice to know you're still here, and still my big brother. She waited behind him when he went to unlock the door. "...were you at school?"

Once he located the elusive key Takuma unlocked the front door and held it open for Nari with a nod. "Yeah, I had stayed behind late to help tutoring someone. I didn't think there would be a problem with me coming home late. Heh, I guess that was wrong." He looked around for a car or signs of anyone else once more. "Nari, how long have you been out here?" His voice had a tinge of concern. Takuma gawked at her still feeling like this was some kind of dream. Perhaps he needed to hug her again to reconfirm she was real.

"Tutoring? Kuma-chan, you've always been so smart." She smirked. "It's great that you're helping others." She followed him inside, looking around. The house seemed a lot... shorter then she remembered. But she was a lot taller now. "Ah, you know, it wasn't a problem. I was waiting, and..." She thought, glancing down at her watch. "Let's see..." She looked up. "It's only been about 6 hours. But it was ok. There were bugs outside to play with for a while."

Once she was inside he closed and relocked the door and led Nari towards the kitchen. Since Takuma was hungry he assumed Nari was as well. He was trying to listen intently to what she was saying but his brain was still in shock and having a hard time comprehending that she was really back. "Oh that's not so bad." He suddenly froze mid step followed by turning to give her a scrutinizing look. "Wait, that's an insanely long time. Nari, I know bugs are fun and all but they can't be that interesting." What was he going to do with her? She may have become an unfairly tall giant but she still had absolutely no sense some times.
