Vate was pacing in the hall. His teenage son, Howl, had ended up being, well, a bit of a rebel. This wasn't your typical teen going out and doing drugs, sex, and going to raves. No, the dark elf might have preferred that. Anything would have been better than having an abnormal teenage wizard as a son.

He didn't go out to parties. He didn't do drugs. He didn't show the slightest interest in anything sexual. Vate would have thought he was--well, queer, if he hadn't known the boy was already married.

Vate decided it was time for drastic matters. It was time to call in a normal teenager--well, as close to normal as the dark elf could think of. Howl did have that pretty redheaded friend; maybe she would help? Surely she could encourage Howl to participate in normal teenage activities?

"Hey, Kali? It's Vate, Howl's father. I was thinking you could come over for a few hours. Maybe invite Howl to a party or two--anything to get him out of the house, really." Now Howl had taken it upon himself to take everything his father said literally. If Vate said there had been a tornado in Howl's room, sure enough, there was one. If Vate said the living room looked like a dump, there was suddenly a pile of garbage there. If Vate said--well. Howl was throughly enjoying himself.

"Parties?" Kali asked, phone propped between her shoulder and her chin as she held one hand over Dimitri's mouth; the other was firmly grasping his underpants, and slowly working it over his curly red head.
"Vate, I don't think you want Howl at the kind of parties I go to. Is something wrong?" She clamped her hand down harder over Dimitri's mouth as he squeaked and whimpered, trying to get away. Unfortunately, he was rather immobilized by the atomic wedgie; and the freezing spell she had on him. Sucked to be him. It was his own fault, though. He'd let it slip that he'd seen Kali sneaking out of the house the night previous, and now her window was boarded shut.
Served him right, she thought, carefully pulling the underwear higher and smirking as her cousin yelped.

"What's Howl gone and done now, that makes you want him to go to...parties?" She asked, pausing for a moment so Dimitri's underpants wouldn't tear and ruin her fun.

"Anything's better than how he's been," Vate said with a shrug. Drugs and parties were things he could deal with. That was how he'd expected his teenage son to behave; with some girls mixed in. "He's been taking everything literally," the elf complained. "You know. Using spells to make every metaphor accurate. So I can't say anything--about anything! I told him to stop acting like a child earlier today, I think that's done it. Haven't heard from him since."

Which was surprising as a whole, really. When Howl wanted something, he whined. Or he sulked. Or he was altogether loud and demanding about it. This new found silence was both relieving and troubling. "Do you think you could come?" Vate repeated, hopefully.

"Oh, dear. He's being an a**, huh?" She said, shifting the phone. "Yeah, I can come over. I've just gotta...finish, something I started." She looked pointedly at Dimitri, who cringed, looking horrified and miserable and...well, doomed. Which he was. She smiled as she lifted her hand off his mouth to take the phone from her shoulder.
"I'll see you soon. G'bye, Vate." And with that farewell, she hung up, giving one last mighty heave and hooking the waistband of Dimitri's underpants around his nose.

"Wow! I didn't think they'd stretch that far. Have fun getting loose!" She said cheerily, picking up her coat, and her keys, leaning over to point one slender finger in his face.

"And if you ever, think of telling anyone, ANYTHING about me ever again? Something that'll get me, or Lance, into trouble? You'll WISH I had wedgied you." She snarled, before turning and stalking out the door.

It didn't take long to get to Howl's house, up to the door, where she knocked and waited politely for someone to answer. She knew Vate was having issues; but maybe Howl could come to the door, and she could ask him what the hell was stuck up his butt faster?

Vate was quick to open the door with a smile. "That was fast," was his initial comment, before moving and holding the door open. "Come on in." The dark elf studied her, before nodding. "I've checked," he said. "There's no slime coming out from under his door, so you should be safe."

With that, Vate led the red headed mage into the hall. "Well, you remember where his room is," he said, giving the teenager a smile. "If you need anything, just ask. Just... Don't say your skin's as rough as a elephant's or something."

A carefully curled head of blonde poked out from Howl's bedroom. The figure was probably two feet tall, with dimples and large blue eyes. His cheeks were rosy with youth and--well. He was a perfect child--if children could look so perfect, that was. As soon as he caught sight of Kali, an audible gulp sounded.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 18, 2011 11:55 pm

Was it bad that the gulp made Kali smile?
Probably.
But, it did; a wolfish smile that she reserved solely for family members that were about to suffer. But wasn't that a good thing? Howl was considered family!
Poor b*****d.

"Hello Howl. Nice get up. Where did you get that one from?" She asked, looking past Vate at the, admittedly, adorable little boy peeking out of Howl's room. This was something she was used to, and could deal with. Little Howl. With curly hair and dimples, but still; little Howl.

"Your dad told me you've been having an...eventful, day or two." Her voice became flat, and dry, as she crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow down at him.
"Got a reason for it?"

"Twinkle," Howl corrected her. Clearly this was a form he had taken before; and liked. If only for the trouble he could get away with when in said form. He sent a frown in his father's direction, but in his current state, it didn't resemble much more than a pout. The dark elf seemed to get the point, though; he left the two teenagers in the hall, and went for the livingroom. "Come for ice cream?" Howl asked.

He knew better. He was in for some trouble; he knew by the look on Kali's face. He had seen such an expression before. It was the look Sophie had given him before threatening to dump water onto Calcifer. Or sending him to bed without dinner.

He wasn't quite sure which one was worse. "Come on," he said, walking into his bedroom. "I'll explain."

"Damn right you'll explain, you little holy terror." Kali muttered, following Howl in and closing the door behind her. As a rule, Viktor didn't allow anyone in anywhere with his teen or otherwise aged kids with the door closed, but Kali didn't particularly care because he wasn't there. She also didn't care if Vate had a similar rule.

"What the heck, Howl? What's wrong with you? You're acting like an a**. Is something wrong?" She frowned, propping her hands up on her hips. "Your Dad's pretty upset. Why are you doing this?"

"Dad hasn't been listening to me," Howl said, frowning as he climbed onto his bed with some difficulty due to his size. "I've told him over and over about what Mom's obviously doing. He ignores me! He acts as if it isn't happening. I don't care if she calls. No one's that busy."

He crossed his arms and glared at his friend; which wasn't very impressive. "He's upset! Leyla hardly knows she has a mother. Devin thinks Mom's forgotten him. Alexei--well. I don't know what Alexei thinks about anything." Alexei was Howl's older brother; who spent more than half his life sleeping. "So I've been getting his attention this way," the little wizard added in explanation.

"It's been working, mostly. He goes to visit Aunt Thali more often than he used to. And everything I've done is harmless. Illusions are useful."

Kali, despite her hankering to wedgie little Howl, sat and listened to what he had to say. At first, she didn't respond to his fairly flimsy defense, and simply crossed her legs, smoothing out her skirt and plucking a bit of lint off of the hem before turning her dark eyes onto Howl.

"Let me see if I have this right. Your father is upset, and stressed, so you decided to act like a little monstrous hellion and make his life a living hell? Because...you think you're helping him, in some way? By being difficult?" The disdain was obvious in her voice as she frowned at the 'toddler'.

"You're acting out because you miss your mother, and you think it's...harmless?"

Her eyes dared him to say yes. Or no. Anything, really. He was doomed either way.

Howl crossed his arms, frowning. He seemed to be thinking. "He hasn't been listening to me," he repeated. He flopped down on his quilt and laid there, staring at the ceiling. "And I haven't been causing that much trouble," he added. "Just small things. Little annoying things," he added as an afterthought.

"Nothing more than a few illusions, really. They really are harmless." He sat up and glared at her. "I don't miss her," he said, rather defensively. "I don't miss her at all. I'm angry with her, because--" he huffed.

He hopped down off of his bed and went to look up at Kali. "Because she's hurting my family," he said. "And no one's doing a thing about it. Dad's not. Leyla's not; I've tried! I'm still trying! I figure if I cause enough trouble, they'll notice, and--"
PostPosted: Wed Jan 19, 2011 1:42 pm

"And you're acting out because you want attention. I knew it! I knew it! God damn it, Howl!" She stood up, towering over his toddler form with her hands on her hips.

"Why don't you grow up and act like the adult you so adamantly and stubbornly say you are! You're acting like a three year old; and don't you DARE use magic to twist my words, you little pest! This is...this is selfish, and stupid! You think you're helping? At all? By doing this, to your dad? Well, you're not!" She didn't think she had ever gotten this angry at Howl before. Ever.
"Your father has enough to deal with without you turning into a holy ******** terror and making his life at home a living hell! His wife is a b***h, he's in love with someone else, he's having another BABY with a woman who isn't his wife, and you think he needs to LISTEN to you?! About what?! Things he's already worrying about?! Christ sakes, Howl, you're not helping anyone! If anything, you're stressing him out more, because now he has to watch his words around his SON." She pointed at him, the urge to give him the biggest wedgie of his supposedly natural life rising.

"If you aren't going to act like a mature adult, you sure as hell aren't going to be treated as one. So right now, you're a kid! And regardless of how old you are in Ingary, you're a kid here, no matter HOW old you act. He is your father, and he has no reason to listen to a little boy who doesn't know how to behave himself! YOU are obligated to listen to him; not the other way around. If you really wanted to HELP, you would stop acting like a little a**!" She huffed, pausing to take a breath. There was a look in her eye that said she was probably not done berating him; but the pause was as good a place as any for Howl to leap in and defend himself.

With a quick movement of his hand, Howl stood, his tall, lanky teenage form returned. He glowered down at Kali, scowling. This was one of the rare times the heartless wizard had been angry. He hated being angry, for good reason. It wasn't just that he disliked anything unpleasant, he often lost control of his magic in such situations; Howl certainly had a temper.

In fact, he was really quite hurt that Kali was so upset with him. She was usually on his side, after all. He really was just trying to help. Well, he had been, until Vate had stopped listening. "You've no idea," he snapped. "I have been helping! I even started cleaning! Calcifer and I've been taking care of--ugh." He turned away from Kali before he lost his temper. He didn't want to turn her into some kind of unmentionable, after all.

"You aren't listening either," he said. "Do you think I don't understand what Dad's been going through? I tried giving him advice! I've tried watching over the phone so I can talk to Mom and tell her how she's ruining everyone's lives. Forget it, Kali. I won't get involved. I've got enough issues."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 19, 2011 5:29 pm

"Of course I'm not listening to you, I'm yelling at you." Kali huffed, crossing her arms. "Howl, it's not your PLACE to fix this! And you know what, you shouldn't feel like you have to. Your parents shouldn't be acting like CHILDREN, but that doesn't mean that you get to take it out on them. There are better ways to deal with this..." She frowned, and followed him as he turned away, raising a hand to set it on his shoulder.

"You have friends you can talk to when things start to suck, Howl. I know what it's like to have parents who don't get along. If something's bugging you, don't...be a b***h, come talk to me. You know. Instead of starting tornadoes in your bedroom and turning into a garden gnome."

Howl turned to stare at her. She wasn't yelling at him? What on Gaia? He put his arms around her and pulled her closer. "I really was just trying to help," he muttered as he hugged her. "I thought it'd get Mom's attention, and--" he sighed.

"I guess I shouldn't have caused so much trouble," he said, still hugging Kali. "But dad was being frusterating. Do you know, he suggested I go out and get drunk? I almost took him up on that, but--" The wizard didn't seem to want to let go of his friend. "And you won't yell?" he asked. "If I come talk to you?"
