The days were gradually getting warmer, the worst of winter seemed to have passed already. It was getting to be easier to find food these days. Sure frost was still a possibility. It was still winter after all but at least there was more food. With the warmer days the snow wasn't sticking to the ground. His white socks were carrying the dirty dingy tale tale signs of mud as he walked through the small clearing. Little patches of greenery were starting to show through the snow, this was what he'd traveled out here for. Food. a nice tender snack of the first blades of grass. Lowering his head, he nipped off some of the tender blades of grass, lifting his head to look around as he chewed.((to save my sanity #5C585 cool )

He had made a habit of wandering. Where he went wasn't completely random though. The prints of small creatures embedded in the muddy ground acted as secret trails for him to follow. The little paths had led him straight out of the two-legger village, away from his mother and father and into the wild. He'd always imagined what it would be like as a foal, living free to do what he pleased but he hadn't really thought of going through with it until he was already away. One day he'd followed those paths and hadn't looked back till he was on the outskirts of the village. He could have gone back then but instead he decided to follow the trails and make a life of his own. It was a lot tougher than he'd imagined. The only other thing he followed was his stomach. He found himself stopping for food constantly, how hard he had to work to get enough. The trails had led him to a clearing that day, he was happy to notice that the snow had melted enough to make easy access of the grass. In the snow he noticed the hoof prints of another Soquili, a draft he guessed by the size of the prints. He sniffed at them, his nose dipping into the snow. The sent had a vague familiarity to it but he couldn't place it as any horse he'd met before. Raising his head to look around, he thought he spotted movement on the other side of the clearing. Walking along in the hoof prints he made his way toward the figure.

As he looked around, he spotted a figure in the distance headed his direction. Perking his ears, she whinnied a friendly greeting to the stranger. Sure, there were those who would argue that greeting another could be unwise for one never knew when the other party could have ill intent on their mind. It would have been rude to him for him to notice the other's presence and not have offered a greeting. if the other was just a passer by, then so be it he wasn't going to pressure anyone to talk. "Greetings!" He offered, a deep rumbling sound that was his voice. It was thick, like molasses given a tongue with which to speak. He could see the other clearly, though his forelock his his eyes from sight. His hide had new scars that still hadn't filled in with fur yet.

He placed his hoofs inside each hoof print, carefully matching them stride for stride. He noticed that he fit almost perfectly into the groove. This other male must be a similar size and weight to him he thought. Even his long feathering dragged along in premade striations in the mud. He flicked his ears up at the sound. He had been distracted by the prints again and almost forgotten that this Soquili he was following was right in front of him. He lifted his head slowly, "Hello," he offered in return. His voice was gruff but slightly higher than the other males. He breathed in deeply through his nose taking in the males sent. It seemed that he was displeased by what he smelled because he huffed out his breath fast through his nose blowing his bangs up in the air.
"Alban," he said slowly in a long drolling voice. "Who are you?" He kept his eyes on the male, still unsure what to make of him.

The corners of his mouth twitched into a goofy looking, yet friendly grin. "Alban? Oh that's your name.. I'm Shilo." He gave a nod before taking another look around to see if perhaps this new male had brought others with him. He didn't distrust the other, but still one never knew what another was capable of if they had others with them in hiding. Satisfied that he found nothing, he turned his attention back to the other male. "Looks like the days are getting warmer... Things keep melting we might soon find ourselves standing in a new lake." He gave a rumbling light hearted laugh, his forelock flopping about as his body shook with his laughter.

Alban looked around him, a strange look in his eye as if he was just first noticing his surroundings. "I suppose it is getting warmer." He shook his head in an attempt to clear the hair from his face. "What are you doing in these parts.... Shilo was it?" He drew his head up to it's full hight, making himself look more powerful. He wondered if this other male would claim the territory as his own.

"Just wandering. You could say I'm getting to know these parts a little bit. I belong to a herd that's not too far off from here so I thought I'd see what lay beyond it's boundaries, as I'm rather new to these parts." He couldn't help but to chuckle lightly at the trouble the other was having with his forelock. He often found he had that same issue with his own. Shaking his mane some, he made no vie for competition so kept his head held relaxed. He never had been the sort to pull that macho 'I must prove I'm the better of the two' sort of thing when meeting new stallions. He'd been too use to being beaten down and ridiculed as a foal to really worry about it much now. He was just happy being himself, and if that made others laugh and share in the joy of the day then, all the better.
"How about you? Scouting the area or do you live around here?" His ears flicked to the side some as the other's scent finally passed on a small wisp of a breeze that picked up and died shortly. How strange.. it was familiar, like he'd smelled something like it before.. only.. where? Shaking his head some, he pushed the thought aside. There would be much more time to figure that out later.. perhaps he'd met this stranger once.. long ago.. or maybe it was just a coincidence.

He grunted as his forelock fell back into his face. Disgruntled he huffed and tried to ignore it. "I don't particularly live around anywhere." He wasn't much of a macho character himself unless challenged. Unless there was a mare involved of course. He'd always felt it was his duty to protect females. Maybe it was something passed on from his mother.
He snuffed at the air. Yes he thought, that was a familiar sent indeed. "Have we met before?" He asked with an air of caution in his voice. "I don't think I've laid eyes on you before but yet..."

He blinked looking over the stallion before him as best as he could through his forelock. "I'm quite certain that we haven't met before.. at least not to my memory.. but you are right.. there is something familiar about you...." He wondered if maybe he'd passed him by once as a foal when his mother's herd was still actively traveling about. "Perhaps as foals?" He ears perked with interest. "Maybe our mother's herds have spent time with one another.. My mother was Fanndis, My father was known as Artaius.... If that helps jog your memory any.. My father didn't stay with us long though.. he left when I was still a foal.. Can't say I blame him much." He gave an almost wry smile.

For a moment it looked as though Alban had had a small stroke. His face was blank and he just stared at the other male for what might have been several minutes but he was completely unaware of time. Finally his senses came back to him and he started to stammer "What... what name was that? I think I miss heard you."

He cocked his head to the side some. "Which name? Fanndis... or Artaius? He was unsure just what had caused the reaction.. Had his parents wronged this stallion before some how? He was starting to gradually start to feel uneasy which was a feat considering how happy go lucky and care free he usually seemed to be.

He coughed, trying to clear his throat and his mind. "Artaius...." He whispered first to himself and then louder for the male. "That was my fathers name too...." He shook his head, "Couldn't be the same... I was born in the two-legger camp..." His eyes flicked back and forth over Shilo again, trying to solve this mystery. "Maybe it's possible. I just..." He paused, "I don't understand."

His withers have a small flick like a shrug. " I suppose it's possible.. I was pretty young when my father left.. We never heard anything again after that.. He had this same infernal mane that seemed to flop in your eyes much like my own does.. And he was a brown in coat color.. much like yourself.. I took after my mother though as far as looks go.. she was soo pleased that I looked so like her.. till I became an adult.. then all I ever heard was how I disappointed her like my father had." He gave a rather sheepish look and chuckle. "Sorry about that mate, here I am unloading my baggage on you."

The thought of it made him feel slightly queasy. His mother and father he loved dearly but whom he'd left behind. He'd always idealized his father but how would this possible revelation change all that. "My father is a similar color to me, but his mane is dark. I have my mother's mane." He tilts his head to the side. "You don't really look like my father, maybe your markings but you're all the wrong color." He tried to find the humor in the situation but it all seemed too serious to him.

He couldn't help but to give a chuckle. "My mother was gray of coat.. Like I said.. I look most like her.. But then.. perhaps our fathers only thing in common is their name eh? but then.. you do faintly smell of him... dark brown, white socks messy mane, bobbed fluffy tail.. dark mane.. the only thing like him I'm not.. was the fact that I left the family too late." He gave another shrug as he offered yet another lopsided goofy grin. " You ever see anyone who looks like that and shares that name mate tell him... his son's looking for him.. if not.. then I guess forget it and let it be as it is.."
