The day was bright and hot. The sun glared down upon the wide expanse of sand with a fierce intensity that would only abate in the evening. Even then, it would force another extreme upon the land, an icy cold in stark contrast to the fiery heat of the day. Knuckle reveled in the feeling of unending heat beating down on him from above. He meandered further through the sands, careful to keep the distant swath of green within sight of his right side. It wouldn't due to become lost and alone in the desert, he knew that.
This was where he had been born, it had been nearly a year since he had been to this vast wasteland. He was unsure if he missed it or not. Sure, the wonderful dry heat was a luxury to him, having spent the past year seeking thrills in the jungles and coasts of the land, but the desert was so dreadfully boring. Really it was just an overgrown sandbox, abandoned in the middle of the day. He snorted in amusement, it was possibly the utter boredom of his formative years that drove him to such extremes to find entertainment in his adult life.
He paused in his ambling gait long enough to snuffle at a lizard that quickly ran away in distress, before trailing his gaze along the horizon, his shades coming in handy to block out a majority of the intense sun.
Was that perhaps a figure in the distance? It was often hard to tell when the sun liked to play tricks all the time.Spoof's teepee

Regin lifted one foot in front of the other, in an endless cycle. For several months she had journeyed through distant lands. It was easier to move endlessly then to stop and actually reflect on her misery. Regin was ashamed of herself and the jealousy she felt towards her brother and mother. Why was she chained to the earth instead of having the freedom to fly like part of her family. While she looked like her mother her father genes had clearly crippled her. The family didn't understand her depression. Or the fierceness within her heart a legacy of her grandmother. Now of all places she was in the desert, and it was hot. Regin was starting to feel miserable again. She was far away from home in the desert of all places. Feeling homesick and playing pity part with herself.
Oh well and least she had seen pretty sights on her travels and slowly the key word slowly coming to gripes with herself. Slowly learning and becoming a soq who she could accept.

Knuckle became curious the closer he grew to the outline of another soquili, it didn't fade into the air the way a trick of the sun would. He wondered if he could use this opportunity...
His mother had taught him while growing up in this very desert to take any and all opportunities once spotted. He very much doubted she had intended for him to take it in quite the way he did, but she was long dead. His days of disappointing her were over.
Shaking himself from the thoughts of the past, Knuckle let a smirk cross his features. If this worked, it would be good. He was only a few yards from the, now confirmed to be real, soquili who he was sure hadn't noticed his rather rapid approach.

The pounding sun rose creeping to its peak. Regin felt weary, the rising sun caused the temperature to increase in the desert. Sweat beaded down Regin’s forehead and dripped down into her eyes. She wiggled her body sending the sweat to drip off onto the desert floor. Regin took a huff of dry desert air trying to cool down but received no satisfaction from the heat. She stumbled ahead looking for a source of shade. If she could only find some kind of growth or water she could cool down and rest during the hot hours. In the distance she spotted movement from the distance but had no fear, for few soq would be foolish to be out in the middle of nowhere. Clearly her mind was playing tricks on her.

Knuckle chuckled silently to himself, almost upon the mare that he could now clearly distinguish from the desert sands.
"Excuse me! You look like you could use some help?" he shouted the first two words in an attempt to startle her when he was still ten feet from the mare. He could tell she did indeed need someone to guide her from the desert. He observed briefly that he had lost sight of the vital band of green but he wasn't worried. He knew that all he had to do was go south to get out of the desert.
If there was one thing Knuckle knew how to do, it was navigate. Having been born and raised in the desert he had grown up learning to recognize the minute landmarks present in the desert. The deeper you got the harder it got with the sands growing ever more likely to change from day to day.
The first thing he learned as a foal was to tell East from West. He wasn't sure if the mare before him was lost or just so overcome by the heat that she couldn't tell direction...either way, he would have his fun.

Regin spotted a figure off in the distance. "Why would anyone be out here," She whispered to herself. To put it plainly she was probably imagining it. But as time went on it seemed to get larger and move faster faster. Regin stood still not moving a muscle as this soq approached her.
At the sound of his voice. She in a fit of surprise jumped in the air. "ouf," she grunted as she came down hard on her feet. Regin looked at the other soq and shouted back at him " Hay you real right not some overzealous figment of my imagination?"

Knuckle chuckled in amusement, "Of course I'm real. The sun's tricks don't speak!"
He scoffed at the thought. Unless you were really out of it anyway...he shrugged but kept a grin on his face nonetheless; happy that his little trick had appeared to startle the little lost mare.
"So!" he exclaimed, "What is one such as yourself doing out in the wide open desert? Don'cha know that people get lost out here and are never heard from again?"

Regin was silent for a moment as she contemplated her answer. "Perhaps journeying off into a inhospitable land that i know nothing of is not the smartest idea but well i just ...felt pulled this way. I've learned to follow my gut, and by that i don't mean my stomach which seems to be gurgling quite a tune. But my inner compass that tells me important info like a 6th sense so to speak. "

He let out a brief bark of laughter, "Well then, a mare after my own heart."
He too felt the frequent urge to go somewhere or do something. He rarely ignored it and very often it led him into trouble. For this reason he was out here today as well. He'd got it into his head that it would be fun to visit his home terrain and see if he could get into a fight with...well, there wasn't much in the desert. Maybe he could find a camel to fight or something...they were tougher than they looked.
"Have you had your fill of the glorious desert today? Because I'd say you need a drink and something to eat. If you'll follow me I'll get you to somewhere less on the sunny side if you know what I mean." he offered.

" Oh a nice drink and some shade would be heavenly about now." Regin glanced at this stranger. What a fortunate meeting Regin thought to herself. Here she was lost and thirsty and here came her own Knight and shinning armor appeared.
hmm.Perhaps her gut feeling had dragged her here for this meeting. Perhaps not.. Still it was something to think about.
" Lead on," she smiled at the handsome stranger. She gazed at him yes handsome was the right word either that are she was dazed from lack of water. But she sincerely hoped he was as handsome as he looked.

He oriented himself towards the edge of the desert, he could always take her to the oasis he knew of that was near here...at least he thought it was by the form of those rocks over there. However, by the looks of the mare that might be too far. He knew they were fairly close to the edge of the desert by the fact there was still stubborn tufts of crab grass and the like clinging to life here and there.
"Hah, I'll bet it would," he replied, a smirk in his voice. "as the lady wishes. Follow me."

Regin followed the male soq he easily navigated the desert floor and seemed to know where he was going. She felt it was safe to trust this stallion he had a good air about him. As they walked along there appeared to be vegetation some kind of grass it was a good sign. If vegetation was to be found there was a good chance water was nearby. Regin was looking forward to a drink of water then it suddenly hit her. She had never introduced herself to the stallion and that was just bad manners. "Umm.. Thank you for your help by way. I'm Regin," she softly spoke.

Knuckle looked over his shoulder at the mare behind him, "It's fine. People get lost out here all the time, this isn't the first time I've had to bring someone back to 'civilization'. It's just a treat for me that I get to lead such a cute mare back this time. Oh, and the name's Knuckle."
He turned back to forward and was beginning to make out greener trees in the distance. Good, they were nearly back to the edge.

Regin ears perked up when the stallion said she was cute. Clearly he had good taste and that was a point in her book for him. As she listened she learned his name was Knuckle. "Knunckle that sounds like a good strong name. I like it very much. I'm glad I'm not the first soq you've helped i felt a little silly about getting lost but when you travel all around there is times when You get lost. Though i think this happens to be one of the biggest blunders I've made." Regin sighed out.

Knuckle laughed at the mare as she sighed, "Oh, by no means are you the first and definitely not the last. At least you didn't start with grandiose ideas of taming the desert or anything...hah. I've lived in and around the desert my whole life and I still don't know everything this baby can dish out..."
He could faintly smell water if he strained his nose, though it was easy to tell they were nearly out of the desert since the very air was growing less arid.
"Though, following a sixth sense into an inhospitable land is probably not too far from the top!" he teased with a smirk.
