Sango sat by a small stream at noon, watching the water flow. It was hardly anything compared to the river she had grown up alongside as a young girl, but she blamed that on the dry season. The bed seemed quite large, though little remained. She stepped forward and lapped up some of the water and looked around her. There were a few other animals here and there, drawn by the water and the few grasses that still sprouted beside it. If she had been hungry she might have tried to hunt, but Sango reasoned she could get by on something smaller rather than putting up all the fight for a wildebeest during the hottest time of the day.
She stepped into the water to let it run over her cool toes, and at its deepest, it hardly came up past her elbows. The blue lioness was too wrapped up in looking at the bottom to see the dirt churn up when she wiggled her toes to see if anyone else had come into the area.

Mwovu was either too stubborn, or too stupid to hunt in this heat. He had managed to catch something, but it wasn't much. And juggling two hares in his mouth was getting more irritating. Sometimes he had to wander far from his pride's lands, as food was scarce at times.
Pausing to adjust the hares in his mouth, he heard the distinct dazzling sound of water. It didn't sound like anything strong, but it would be refreshing to drink, no matter how warm it was. With a grunt, he made his way towards the water, not quite noticing the blue lioness until he was already there. He instinctively opened his mouth to talk, and the two dead hares dropped onto the ground with a soft 'thump, thump'.

While she heard the approaching sounds of some animal, Sango was still too absorbed in her water watching. Her ears, however, did turn to face him. It was with the 'thumps' of the rabbits that sounded odd, that her face and eyes followed her ears. She was quite surprised to see a lion facing her. Two rabbits, too, though their eyes were closed and glassy.
"Oh. Hi," Sango said with surprise. She nodded towards the hares. "Nice catch, there." She smiled, complimenting the hunter. She genuinely was impressed by his dedication to hunt in this stifling weather. She'd hunted in the cooler morning and scored a drowsy rabbit.

Mwovu was a masochist. He enjoyed hunting in the heat, even if it wore him out much faster than if he had hunted at other points of the day. It was nice to him, and it made it easier for him to be social with others. Like right now.
"Want one?" he asked. He hunted for his pride, but sometimes the best way to get a conversation going was over sharing food. "I don't mind if you'd like one."
He glanced around as discreetly as he could, but she seemed alone. And content, too, which was intriguing. He'd been living in the pride for too long.
