Grey morning. Grey afternoon. And now it was settling into a grey evening.
KC wasn't at ease enough to be bored per se, but even the foul-tempered guardian found his focus slipping as he patrolled the wall that were his duty. The chill was particularly horrible this winter, and it had taken every effort between himself, Natter, and whoever else chipped in to keep the Thorn Wall going strong. The worst of the cold season was upon them, though, and to his frustration frost was beginning to settle more on the plants no matter what he did to protect them . . . He hoped they would last until the sun could shine stronger.
Though why, he wondered. No danger, not even the slightest kind. Whispers here and there, sure, but rumors were only rumors thus far. Some sort of growing evil in the southwest with a king no-one knew the true name of. Riiiiight. Sounded like something out of a fairytale if you asked him.
Then again, he was contracted under a king and queen, surrounded by knights and do-gooders, tending to roses. Who was he to judge?
KC chewed on a brittle leaf as he mulled that very thought over, the sun's dying rays behind him.

Taking care of the Thorn Wall was not typically in her job description, but the weather had been rough on both the plants and the small amount of wolves tasked with keeping the thorny bushes healthy..and so as was typical of her she'd thrown herself into the mix whenever she had a spare moment.
And if she was lucky she managed to avoid that absurd deer creature in the process, really the thing was about as annoying as any creature could be and only Fantasia's word to KC that the deer would be safe here kept Chantily rom making it the packs dinner. Chantily would never intentionally disobey an order from her Lord after all...even if sometimes she dreamed about breaking a few of them..like eating the deer and whipping some of the citizens into gear.
So it was that when her travels brought her upon the familiar brown patchy hide of KC she froze, eyeing the surrounding area for the accursed deer before moving on again when it didn't seem like it was pleasant. KC it appeared was eating a leaf. "You've been spending too much time near that deer...eating leaves now are we?" She remarked as she drew close.

He was becoming to get adjusted to life here in the pack. Things were similar, and yet different, from other packs that he had been a part of. Here they tended to plants, maintained a great thorn wall to protect the lands, it was odd and yet interested Dagonet greatly. He had never been big on plants, they were used for cover in hunting, fed the prey beasts and provided shade on the hotter days. Yet here there were used for various traditions and protection. He was determined to learn so much more, but not get distracted from his training towards greater things within the pack, making himself greater as well.
He had come out here with the understanding that something was to happen. What he wasn't entirely sure, but Chantily had come out here as there was another wolf already arrived, KC/ He knew a little bit about the wolf but gleaned to learn even more now.
Padding up to the pair he dipped his head first to Chantily and then to KC. "Good afternoon." Dagonet took seat, for her was certain that there were others to arrive before this meeting, or whatever it was, got underway. Green eyes looked upon the Thorn Wall, it truly was an impressive sight and took a great deal of care to maintain, that alone nearly impressed him more than the sight of the wall itself.

"Meh . . ." He chewed the leaf some more and then spat it out, its crumbled forms falling to his paws - and then beneath his paws they were crushed. "Restless habit, ma'rm. Things're bland to me mouth, lets me do somethin' while I think." He knew of the wolf as a marshal that went by Vivid Eyes or something like that. KC never did understand the point of titles - weren't their regular names good enough?
Then again, he couldn't talk. He was named like a girl.
A second wolf very similarly colored to Chantily came to them, and KC raised a brow. "Who the hell're you?" he asked in his typical gruff fashion.

"There are worse habits to pick up I expect" Chantily replied - while she didn't see the value of chewing on leaves she also knew she herself had a habit or two that might be considered a bit off if anyone were to catch her doing them. Of course Chantily was far to aware of her position in the pack to embarrass either herself of her Lord in such a manner. "What is it that has troubled you into such thought?" She questioned the brown wolf - he was an odd sort KC but she almost liked his gruff nature..she suspected she'd be friends with him if she didn't have to worry about being cornered by that irritating deer.
"His name is Dagonet..he's new" She told KC, head swiveling to regard the pale wolf who joined them. Fantasia had deemed him worthy enough to stay and he had a work ethic that she could appreciate...but she was far from outright trusting him quite yet.

Perhaps he should have been taken aback by the gruff nature of this other male, but with the various packs he had been a part of in the past he knew that wolves came in all kinds. Plus this other wolf was a part of his new pack, as he had seen him around before but never had the chance to meet him yet. Luckily Chantily was there to act as mediator, not that he thought he would need her to interject, but it was nice to know she was there anyways. All the same he nodded a greeting to the darker colored wolf, not bothering to introduce himself as Chantily had already done do. "Pleasure to meet you, don't think I caught your name."

"KC," he rumbled, nodding once to Dagonet. "Welcome 'r somethin'." He wasn't the pack's designated meet and greeter for a reason. "Oh . . . y'see a green doe around, don't eat her. Natter's got protection here," he added with an airy, gruff sigh. Sometimes he didn't understand why he didn't just go and eat her already; all she was was his four-hooved embodied conscience - and sometimes not even a good one.
"So what you doin' 'round here, Dag?" KC asked. "Got ol' Vivid Eyes makin' you her b***h 'r somethin'?" He didn't really take it upon himself to understand what everyone in the higher ups was doing. After all, he was just an "order me where to go" sort of guy without making too much fuss.

"Unfortunately" Chantily mumbled mostly to herself as KC mentioned his erstwhile companion, though if the beast would simply learn to talk less and listen more she wouldn't be nearly so annoying to be around - alas such was the way things were for the moment. "At least she's good with the roses, can reach the higher ones easier then we can" She mentioned.
And just when she had started thinking that she might endeavor to start a friendship up with KC - or try to weird as he could be - he went and spouted off a remark like that and made her rethink the entire idea. She sighed to herself "I am doing no such thing" She told the brown wolf "He's not even under my command for the moment" She went on to further explain "At least not directly...indirectly I expect that he is, but he reports to his Knight still not me" she went on to explain before recalling that KC didn't much care for such things and in any case she was mostly talking semantic at this point "Oh never mind, but he's not my 'b***h' as you so delicately put it"

Well this KC fellow certainly wasn't the most welcoming of sorts, however Dagonet had met far worse in his travels so he was able to shrug off the gruffness of the male. "I will be certain to avoid eating your deer friend." He told the other politely, not letting the others rough tone rub off on him. No, he would never allow such a thing to happen...or at least that's what he planned.
Opening his mouth to answer KC's first question Dagonet then suddenly snapped it shut at the brown wolf's next comment. He couldn't believe it, such words coming from a member of this pack. He was shocked, beyond shocked. Good thing Chantily was able to set him straight for Dagonet could not find his words for the moment. With a solid shake of his head Dagonet cleared all the confusion away and was able to speak. "What I am doing here is obtaining training to better myself and through that better serve my pack." There first question answered now to deal with the second, even though Chantily had done a good job of answering that herself. "And I must ask you to not speak in such a manner in the presence of a lady. It is quite rude and uncalled for." Dagonet could only hope that saying that would prove to be the right thing, he did not need to be making enemies in the pack so soon after joining.

KC scoffed softly. "Prudes," he woofed with a shrug. "What, like a wolf can't cuss 'er somethin'? I ain't no noble, and I never sar an angry wolf back down with nice werds. Why play pretend here?"
Clearly nothing they said or would say about him would bother or foresee changes in his future behaviors. Not without a massive amount of effort - and really, who would go through such a thing?
KC abruptly changed the subject. "Y'smell that in the wind?" he prompted, jerking his head towards the soft breeze passing through them from the southwest. "Nose says it ain't good. Things've been too nice an' quiet 'round here . . . Makes someone like me think somethin's 'bout to happen. Storm 'er worse." Not that the sky suggested bad weather. "Feel like border patrollin' a bit, check in on them lovely Spikes and Poisons. You in?"

"One does not need to be a noble to speak well' Chantily pointed out with a slightly amused tone "But I'm not such a prude that i haven't heard such things before...and perhaps uttered them myself from time to time given the proper motivation to do so" She continued on with a glance between the two wolves. Dagonet would soon learn she supposed that KC said whatever it was that came to his head without much care for the way it was worded - he was blunt and frank and sometimes crude - but he was good at his job and she was willing to overlook such things, if she were honest she'd have to say that once in a while - she even found it refreshing.Of course she could say the same of Dagonet and his polite ways as well some days.
"You are not the first to mention it" Chantily agreed with glance to the southwest. "It has me uneasy, half the pack is on edge - and the other half has convinced themselves that's it nothing, makes for troublesome times" She relayed to her fellow wolves before nodding her agreement to the proposed patrol.
