Tosh ducked around an alley, sitting there for a second before lifting his head out and surveying the sight before him. Today was Farmers' Market Day, where farmers and merchants came 'round to sell their wares. Tosh was always incredibly interested in what they came to sell - sometimes, he just liked walking with the other people outside, because it was just so cool. Long ago, the Farmers' Market had been for farmers and their livestock; vegetables; and other produces that they had to sell. Nowadays, people from all over the city came to this area to sell anything that anyone could imagine. Sometimes Toshua saw precious stones - sometimes he saw dogs and rabbits; sometimes he saw humans for sale - this which he knew by now were slaves.
Today he had tried, once again, to sneak successfully out of his home and browse what the Market had for sale. Unfortunately, this time it hadn't been quite successful. He'd tripped over a shoe and woke the guard up, who'd been chasing him all morning. All morning! Tosh had thought that the old man would be tired by now, but he was probably afraid for his job - or his paycheck. Either way, he'd just passed the guard, but the man had somehow been able to track him wherever he ran.
Glancing at a beautiful bow, Toshua sighed. Would've been a beautiful present for his mother's birthday, which was coming soon. He just didn't have time to shop now. Glancing behind him quickly, Tosh once again saw the pudgy body of the guard, huffing and puffing and spotting him once again. He had the eyes of a freaking eagle, that man. Ducking behind another corner (which he discovered quickly enough was a dead end) Tosh cursed and ran out quickly. The man was right behind him! He walked briskly into a crowd of people. "I've got you, kid! Get back here, you rascal!" The man shouted from behind him. Tosh wondered if he was a new guard - the other one had hardly cared about what he did. Either way, Toshua wasn't going home now. He wanted that bow. And he also wanted to stay outside a little longer.
In the crowd he felt a bit safer, but his hair stood out like a beacon. Black hair. Tosh scowled for a second, and then thought again. Black hair. The woman in front of him had black hair! He suddenly had an ingenious idea, his eyes lighting up. With a light tug, he'd pulled the black-haired woman out of the crowd and started to drag her towards an empty alley.

Lulu walked aimlessly for once. It was not a common sight to see the missus--especially when it was crowded and busy and all, but today was...different. She supposed it was because of Susan, but really, she just wanted to walk around. It's not like Lulu didn't have...hobbies of her own. Nothing to do at home anyway.
However, once she began to wander the pathetic market, she instantly regretted ever stepping out of her house. This is why the maids laughed when I told them I was visiting the market today.. The smell of raw meat was nauseating, disgusting and utterly ridiculous. Nothing similar to the bear garden, which of course, smelled horrendous on its own accord. She got stares as she walked, eying the poor quality of materials and other so-called goods. She thought back to when she was in Yirui, and how her mother would always take her to the main street of their city. The smell of herbs would attack her nose, her native tongue beat against her ears. In Gadu, it was...different. For the worse.
She kept an eye out for potential muggers, but was caught off-guard when she was suddenly grabbed by the arm and, despite some resistance, was in an alley. "Watch it, lad! Who do you think you are!" Finally let go, she repositioned her cloak and smoothed out her hair. Without even looking at who grabbed her, she began to walk out of the alleyway to call for help. "Guard! 'scuse me, Guard! Sir! Over--" She was cut off when finally, she took a glance at who exactly dragged her over.
She had expected some Panymese boy who wanted some money out of her. Instead, she saw in front of her..."Wei?"

Tosh gasped a little from his running, taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly. When he turned to look at the woman (who was babbling nonsense or something of that sort), he wasn't really listening. He almost decided to run away after she started calling for the guard, because obviously the man outside would definitely hear. The man was probably looking all over for him now. Tosh felt like dying.
-- and then he heard a question of recognizance and Tosh heard the single word Wei. Blinking, he looked at himself, and then at her, and realized they did look somewhat alike. The black hair; the almost slanted eyes; the pale skin. He did remember - somewhat vaguely - that his family's ancestors had migrated from Yirui, and somehow he'd gotten those genes instead of his mother's completely Panymium (golden locks, blue eyes) look. Well, Tosh certainly didn't mind. He got a fair amount of attention for looking like a mixed kid.
If he looked like this Wei, Wei must be a pretty good-looking kid.
Suddenly a little intrigued (and then his short attention span), Tosh grinned easily. Maybe they could just talk here for a while - besides from the outside of the alley, no one could really see what was going on, and a black haired boy with a black haired woman obviously wasn't Tosh. Obviously. "Wei? Who's Wei?" He said, interested.

Lulu squeezed her eyes together and rubbed her forehead. Hallucinating her younger brother in a young boy that didn't exactly have the same physical characteristics was horrible. She didn't want to think about Yirui, and the last person she wanted to reminisce about was Wei.
She turned to the cocky little boy and threw out, "None of your business." She recollected herself and cleared her throat. "What does matter is your reason for forcefully dragging me into this disgusting alleyway." She took out her handkerchief and began to wipe where Tosh grabbed her at. She saw him grin again, and it caught her off-guard. She hated people that smiled easily--that and it was just annoying. "The guards are coming, you see, and if you don't give me a reason as to why I shouldn't have them arrest you for harassment or maybe attempt burglary, then they'll just take you away, y'know." Lulu gave him a quick scan. She began to question how she saw Wei in him--he barely looked like him. She hated dealing with kids, especially rowdy ones that didn't just sit still and do what they were told.
Then again, Lulu rarely did as she was told when she was younger. Well. No one said she wasn't a hypocrite. She hoped that he wasn't going to bust out the tears and talk about how he needed to steal for his poor sick mother or that he had to steal for his siblings of some sort.

"Fine, be that way." Tosh stuck his tongue out at the mean Asian lady but smirked anyways. The exhilaration from running out of a jail was really quite shocking, and he liked this feeling of the rebel inside him. Speaking of that, how had someone from Yirui become a rich lady like her? As far as he knew, immigrants hardly ever established themselves and often died away in some sort of street corner. She had an accent - obviously she'd come over in recent years. Not to mention she probably thought he was some hungry peasant child! Tosh almost laughed in derision with the thought. He really didn't see what was the point of them - they didn't do much but beg and sleep on the streets. Tosh didn't feel any pity, not at all.
"Those guards are my guards," Tosh pointed out dryly when she started threatening him with talk. Tosh wasn't really worried about the guards - after all, the worst that could get happened was that he would be dragged home and submitted to yet another worried lecture from Mother, who didn't seem to know when she'd talked enough. Either way, he didn't want to go home. They'd just keep him there for a longer time.
Then again, this woman seemed somewhat... mad. Tosh frowned somewhat, before motioning with his hands. "I've been caged at my house for the last week, I just had to get some fresh air - but they've been chasing me, so I ducked in here with you."
"Please, please don't spoil my hiding place?" His eyes sparkled softly as Tosh tried to make himself look as young as possible.

Lulu wondered who who on Profugus this boy was--and how he dared to talk back to her in such a way. She didn't care that he had guards, and she certainly didn't care that he was caged around in his house, but...she almost sympathized with him. After all, she had been through the same before in the past.
It still didn't really explain why he had to choose her of all people though. Then again, it made sense to her after a while. After all, it would have been awkward if this boy wandered around with a non-Yiruian looking woman or man. To emphasize once more, she didn't submit to the sparkling eyes--though she did wish she knew his technique. "I suppose." It would have been a bother if she didn't say yes right away anyway. Who knows what the boy would have done if she said no. The guards that Lulu called over were making their way, ever so slowly, towards their general direction. "Let's ward off the guards then." She smirked at him before counting down. After three counts, Lulu snook through the crowd and popped up randomly. "Over here, guards! That young pest!" And so, the guards sludged through the crowds once more towards where Lulu was waving. They simply saw a handkerchief connected to an arm--and when they got there it was another woman who was simply waving for no particular reason. She did this for a couple times before finally the guards stopped trying to look for him that way.
Lulu slightly smirked at her handiwork. Obviously it wasn't as fancy as she could have made the escape or divergence be, but it was a work in progress. "Now, dear boy. My name is Lulu Rogers, you best remember that quickly." She pulled out another handkerchief and wiped her brow. "If we simply stay in this little corner of an alleyway, your guards would eventually find us. Perhaps you know of a place you want to go?"

"Thank you!" Toshua exclaimed, a tiny laugh bursting forward from his throat. Perhaps this Yiruian wasn't as mean as he had supposed earlier – any other adult, and they would've returned him back immediately to the guard, and he would be stuck all over again at his house, waiting for his parents to half-heartedly scold him and then the cycle would repeat again and again. It was hardly entertaining. Tosh's eyes jumped to the guards approaching and grit his teeth, groaning inwardly as his brain jumped to a million different solutions to the problem – most were ridiculous and too imaginative, though, and before he could come up with a solid plan, the Yiruian was already smiling wickedly and darting through the crowds to wave a handkerchief in the air. She was ridiculously fast for a woman, and even faster for a woman in a dress and heels. After the task was finished, and the dumb guards had started looking in the opposite direction, the woman came back and smiled delicately.
Toshua stared in shock. Wow. This woman was so cool.
"Lulu Rogers." He tried it out on his tongue – a pretty name, to be sure. Every female he had ever come into contact with (including his mother) generally sat around the house, looking beautiful, to be sure, but utterly useless in every other way except for gossip and the application of makeup. She was different. It was a nice different. "My name's Toshua Green, Ms. Lulu!" He held out a hand to Lulu and smiled beatifically.
As she asked for a place that he wanted to go, Tosh's mind almost blanked. Almost. And then he remembered what he'd been trying to do a second ago, and his face brightened a bit. "I was actually trying to buy my mother a birthday present." He said, a little sheepishly, still looking back and forth outside the alley for any sign of the guard. There wasn't any, and so he looked back to the woman happily, trusting as always. It should have occured to him that he was in an alleyway, with a strange foreign woman who had just gotten rid of his guards for him. But Tosh was Tosh, and he wasn't the most logical child in the world.
