 The grass only peaked through the white blanket of silent snow in a few places where the sun hit, water eroded and steps pushed away the snow crystals, creating an exit.
Selena remembered her last winter, it was actually the same season her two children were born. A bit later into the month, but quite close.
Though all the hard moments in her pregnancy and the pain-staking labor, she never regretted a moment if it mean she couldn't have the two of them in her life now.
Her elder child, Rocket was a proud, handsome stallion. He had his uirks, as did all, but he was strong willed and brilliant. Neri was her daughter, young and delicate and innocent. She was ever Selena's and Sui's princess. Sel knew her mate liked to believe their daughter would stay a child forever, always frolicking and calling him daddy. But it was not true.
Selena was waiting for her beautiful daughter now, in this creek forest, to talk about just how incorrect that notion was.

Nerissa ran with full speed through the Lands, eager to reach the checkpoint she knew to be the area her mother was waiting for her.
Her green eyes, which were exact replicas of her father's, strained to search the terrain to spot the shadowy, older mare.
'I hope I am not too late, mum doesn't li-' before her thought could run its coarse, her dark eyes locked with pale, clear blue ones and a smile immediately filled up the young mare's face.
"Mother!"

Selena had turned her head just as her keen ears heard the click of hooves on the rocky and foresty ground. She turned out to see her daughter, a smile beaming on her face. She couldn't help but smile right back at her, a gentle, caring smirk.
"Took you quite awhile to get here didn't it? Have you been up to anything interesting today?"
She nuzzled and wrapped her neck around her daughter in embrace once she was close enough. Selena enjoyed the restored silence that was brought with having the kids old enough to be out on their own. She also had more time for moment with her darling mate Suichii, and old friends. But, she did miss her two children from time to time. It was so heartwarming to inhale the scent of her daughter, it felt like little had changed.
"I have missed you."
