So while eating lunch the other day I was watching WGN and saw them discussing a change in the Zodiac signs. The Greek ones I think. The article and clip is posted here... I must say I'm a little surprised at such news, I had always figured the Zodiac signs were written in stone..well from what I knew of them anyway. So whats everyone's opinion of this?

It all depends on which you prescribe to. Eastern, or western zodiac? Does this mean we have different solstice days now? No? Then our Western zodiac has not changed. however, even before and after the shift of constellations I've been the... Ophiuchus. Which I think is pretty fitting, since I <3 snakes/reptiles.

Our own Tropical Zodiac has not changed at all.
The eastern sidereal Zodiac was the one that changed.

I sort of have some say against that link. To the people who prescribe to Eastern zodiac, it's a sign as well as a constellation. It's not just "nananananana YOU'RE WRONG" It's all about metaphorical interpretation.
The way that website makes it seem is like the eastern zodiac is a sham. (as if the western couldn't be considered the same bs)
however, even if the zodiac DID change, no matter what it was, you're still always the sign you were born under.
BTW, what were the old astrological dates for the sidereal zodiac? I swear I looked up Ophiuchus before in 2010 and it was under the same dates.

Also, I'm sick of people saying "Oh, well, the Tropical zodiac won't change because, uh, it's based on the four seasons."
Because they certainly CAN change. (Just, I have no clue when.)

Of course I had some problems with the way they worded this. "However, months are defined by seasons and so winter in the Northern hemisphere will never occur during June. "
Names=/=what's really happening.

It's not that Eastern Astrology is a sham; it's that most people don't follow the Eastern systems so there's no reason to worry about it. If you did follow an Eastern system then you most likely already knew about the precession of the equinoxes. In this case, still nothing has changed as you're still doing things by the position of the stars in real time.
If I'm not mistaken, originally the sidereal and tropical zodiac were identical. The Sun actually was entering into Aries on the Vernal Equinox about 2,500 years ago, I believe. When precession was actually discovered, the tropical approach tying the zodiac to the seasons was developed.
The Western Zodiac is tropical, and the first day of Aries is the day of the Vernal Equinox. That's why the tropical zodiac doesn't change: The seasons are quite precise in their changing. When it says "seasons" it is using the celestial movements to define them, not months. The only variation in when seasons start is because of how the Gregorian Calendar works. That's why in some years Spring will start on the 20th of March but in others on the 21st.
