If you donèt want your fingers all black you can use cotton swabs, pads or balls to do blend and smudge.

I like this! It's very unique.
(But if there's ever a time you don't want your fingers to be black, you could also try blending stumps or a chamois. Both very useful, as well as swabs or tissue...or fingers. biggrin )
