Alright let me explain a few things. Let's start at the beginning of the formation of our solar system. Somehow (there are many varying theories as to way) our wonderful planet Earth was blessed with having a moon that is 1/4 it's size. This is unique to our Earth and life as we know it cannot exist without it. However, it's much more then just a pretty accessory. The Moon helps to stabilize Earth's rotation, keeping it somewhat upright. If one looks at our neighboring planet Mars, it's rotation is wild, sometimes almost as extreme as 90 degrees. Astronomers suggest that Earth's rotation shifting 1 degree is what caused the Sahara Desert to change from a luscious rain forest to a giant lump of loose dirt.

The reason why Earth's rotation degrees change is because our Moon is slowly moving away from us. As the moon moves away the Earth tilts more. A side effect of this is that the way we see our nightly heavens changes, stars shifting when they show up and when they move and when they leave. It all boils down to timing and how we are effected by that. Basically, these signs aren't "new" we've been aware of these changes for a very long time, it's just that someone decided to alert the internet about this. In addition, there's a new, 13th sign by the name of Ophiuchus. The reason why this happens is as the Moon moves further away from the Earth, the Earth days also become longer, which means eventually we'll be seeing February 30th.

For me personally I was an Aquarius and now I'm a Capricorn! eek

I'll be adding more information as I find out about things. For now "Ophiuchus" is so new that there's not much information. Please be patient! ^-^ This chart is the correct Stars that we are born under. Horoscopes are based on this concept, so instead of freaking out about it embrace it. heart

Because everyone keeps insisting that this is new:

Quote:

The idea of introducing Ophiuchus as a sign of the zodiac dates to the 1970s and was popularized in Japanese sidereal astrology from the late 1990s by Walter Berg's The 13 Signs of the Zodiac.

Meh... Damned Moon wanting to get rid of us like a shady friend.... *Smacks anime moon and watches it deflate* LOL
PostPosted: Mon Jan 17, 2011 1:37 am

Not to worry, the moon only moves an inch and a half away from Earth every year. In astronomical terms this is minuscule and it will take a VERY long time before Earth will be moonless. heart

Watching anime moons blow up/deflate/explode/implode/(insert your mayhem here) with no consequence is still funny regardless! xp

I've been getting a large backlash from announcing this new astrology sign. everyone keeps "choosing" their signs all the sudden, some are out right rejecting it, and others are telling me I'm being rude for explaining how things work from a scientific standpoint.

SO! I decided to be a good little nerd and do my research. I know a thing or two about Astronomy, but I've never been too good on Astrology (as in the core study of it, I've read horoscopes plenty of times and understand the concept). Reading up on the topic, it seems astrologers have detached themselves from science even at a core level! Even though (CLEARLY) the Zodiac is composed of constellations that circle the Earth, astrologers seem to not care about them. Apparently they don't use the constellations for predictions and therefore are completely negligible to the practice.

What?

Basically Astrology borrows from Astronomy...but then some completely disregard it. Due to this detachment from scientific fact some astrologers have completely ignored the "what Stars we're born under" message that they're SUPPOSED to be using and have completely rejected the 13th sign as part of Astrology. Luckily some Astrologers have adapted to the 13th sign and I'm sure the "old" horoscope and "new" horoscope will be showing up soon enough.

That's where this whole "believe-what-you-want" mentality is coming from. To each his own. heart

I agree, Astrology IS confusing! eek They're clearly supposed to be borrowing from Astronomy to select these certain heavenly bodies that influence humans, and then turn around and don't follow them. Of course, science isn't perfect and Astronomy has seen its fair share of changes, but Astrology doesn't want to adapt. Really it comes down to the Astrologer, some have rejected the 13th sign, and others have embraced it. I guess we'll see what's going on with that as time goes on. sweatdrop heart
