02.28.11 UPDATE:
The one and only person to voice (and confirm) their interest in becoming the new guild owner/captain was Foxprincess09. From this day forward, she will be the owner and captain of the guild, unless she decides to appoint someone else to those positions.
Congratulations, Foxprincess09, and may everyone have a great year.
Thanks to everyone for your support of the guild.
Happy posting!
heart ~Passion_Dragon
Hello all!
I haven't been active on Gaia for quite some time, and although I would hate missing the discussions and avatars and everything that was good about Gaia, I regretfully must say that I'm going to be even less active than I have been, so I may as well say I'm "leaving Gaia." xd
What that means for the guild:
I have been owner and pretty much sole moderator for the guild for many years, and I have seen times when there has been tons of discussion and new posts daily; and I've also seen times like right now/recently: when there might be one new post every few weeks. I've seen the ups and downs; most guilds have them.
I would love to just keep checking in every couple weeks, or every month for new posts and member requests, but I feel that would be counterproductive. By the way, I don't think we've had a legitimate new member request in probably six months or more. 3nodding
So, here are the options:
+++++[ONE] If one of you wants to step up and take over the captain's position for the guild, please send me a PM or post here with several well thought-out sentences stating why you'd be a great captain for this guild.
+++++[TWO] If no one states their interest in being captain by 28 February, 2011, then I will close the guild down. I may put it up for sale, but it's more likely that I will donate it. I will send out a guild "bulletin" to all members letting them know the guild is closing down, then I will remove all members.
Please keep in mind this is not some angry, spur-of-the-moment rant; I have thought seriously about this for some time, and I came to this decision out of respect for all of you who post here: I don't want to captain a guild if I can't set a good example by participating and posting and adding to the discussion on a regular, consistent basis. 3nodding
So, before you post your reply, please think about it -- closing the guild is not a bad thing (there are possibly other guilds and threads out there in Gaia which discuss the same issues); and if you do not TRULY see yourself posting and participating and actively engaging your members right now, please do not request to be the captain.
**All members are welcome to post their opinions here in this thread, even if you are not requesting to be captain. I am not sending this out as a bulletin to all members because only those who actually stop in would be interested anyway.

An addendum:
I realize that although there may be other threads on Gaia in which to discuss many of the issues presented here, those other threads are at a much greater risk of being invaded by bigots, ignoramuses, very young children, and just plain idiots. The purpose of the guild was to provide a place where users could post, supposedly without fear of having to encounter such unsavory folks; you could have an intelligent discussion or argument with people who were a bit more sensitive to or experienced with or knowledgeable of the issues you were posting about.
At the same time, there is a downside to having a guild like this:
~Facing bigots and dumb-asses is as essential to the human experience as anything else. xd And,
~I'm sure you've all noticed that there are mostly certain nationalities/ethnicities in this guild; although we don't mean to exclude anyone who is not "of African decent" (for lack of a better phrase), the guild mainly attracts those same people. Out in the general (and obscure) threads of Gaia, you may get many more perspectives about your topic, from people whose lineages include very little African "input."

Well I been having similar feelings myself and it was only because of this guild and a few other reasons why I came back. However, I doubt I would be active enough to support the guild with my last year of school coming up very soon. It was fun ride and I do enjoy the people I met here. So, I respect your decision and I wish you well. Thank you for making this guild.
Still the ED and the like are crap. I liked this guild because you all actually read before posting. Also, stupidity in itself isn't a good thing for anything. There's a lot of stupidity on the web what good is it really doing to us collectively?
Also I think this should have been sent out as a notice ya know?

Thank you for your reply.
Like I posted above: I didn't put this out as a notice to everyone because only the people who come here anyway would be concerned.
If you're not interested enough, or don't have time to stop in, then that's pretty much the answer to what I'm asking: a person's lack of response is just as good as their response, since it shows that they're either not interested, or too busy to post here.

Mr Crawley I think you should just... leave it open. But what if there's a moderator-type issue? I know there hasn't been one in quite some time, but what if there's a member causing problems or a new join request? neutral

Also I think there's a way to make it easy access for new members.

I can't continue to be the captain I think this guild deserves, so either I appoint a new one, or shut the guild down. Even if the guild is "easily accessible" for new members, there will have to be a moderator -- hence the search for a captain. 3nodding

I can be your captain.
I may not post often, but I love getting on and just reading the post. I love to have great thoughtful conversation with others like myself. This guild is a great resource, tool and avenue to talk about issues that take intellectual thinking. I get on about once a day if not every other day. This guild should stay open because I have never seen one like it before. It would be my pleasure to be the captain.

Yeah never was sure how these guilds worked on here sorry for my lack of understanding. But seems like Foxprincess has stepped up. I was actually going to plug a new guild I found that's sort of like this one in case no has. If it's cool with everyone I'll post it or just check on my profile's comments.

Awaiting a reply from Foxprincess09, to confirm her request for ownership of this guild.
If anyone else has any thoughts, comments, or concerns, or if you feel that Foxprincess09 should or should not be your new captain in this guild, please speak now! I hope to be able to transfer the guild immediately upon getting a response from them. Also, it will be up to the new captain to appoint their own crew, and to send out a bulletin to the other guild members to let them know about the changes. 3nodding
