The mare's mind was awash with foreign things. She'd been gone from home some time now, though how many days or weeks she could not guess. She was farther away physically than she'd ever been before, and felt even farther removed mentally. How much a dream her old life had seemed, and how much she missed it now that she was far from it. She scarcely remembered now what had driven her away in the first place. Nita stood on the top of a sizable hill overlooking a valley below. The sky had darkened considerably and sense told her she should seek shelter for the night, yet she lingered still. The seasons had begun to turn once more and she couldn't help thinking how small she really was in the scheme of the world and how little she mattered among the changing seasons and all the living creatures going about their lives below her.
It was a strange fact to ponder, but the flutter did not feel sad at the notion. She was accustomed to being smaller than life in a more literal sense, so this philosophical outlook did nothing to harm her emotionally. In fact, she found herself smiling at the amazing things she had done so far, though they were hardly amazing to normal soquili. She had ventured out alone, which she'd never before conceived of doing, and she had spoken to a fair few others, of various species. It was atop a hill much the same as this one that she had met that strangely compelling and lonesome kalona. She remembered him fondly, as they seemed kindred spirits. She hoped to meet him again. As she watched the sun setting she reflected on others she had met and on friends she had made, but her mind kept circling one she was trying to forget. She wasn't sure why, but thinking on her Galahad brought a deep well of sadness to her. Was she wrong to leave without saying goodbye? She wondered if he had remained with Islagiat or if he'd moved on with that angeni again. Would she ever know? She allowed herself a rare moment to think on him.

Nita had left. After parting ways with the young mare, after he had lead her to her fathers grove, apparently something had happened. He didn't know what, or why, but the news came back to him that the young female had left. For awhile, the pale male had found himself shocked and surprised. She hadn't even come to wish him well or say good bye.
Now, Galahad was a practical stallion, and he hadn't rushed off to find her. She was an adult, she could think for herself, and if she had felt the need to wander than so be it. Who was he to stop her? But as the days had worn on, the stallion couldn't help himself and he soon had ambled away from Islagiatt.
He didn't know where he was going to go, and he certainly didn't think he'd actually catch up to the mare, but he would allow the spirits to guide him. He would travel once more, without a real purpose, but he did keep the violet mare in mind. If only he could see her one more time, if only he could cross paths with her so he might wish her well and give her a proper bon voyage.
It surprised the green eyed stallion that he might feel so vehemently about Nita. She was his friend, but he had left all of them behind when he was younger. And while he had always missed them, it surprised him just how upset he was at the loss of Nita. Something had changed, and while he wasn't entirely sure what it was that caused him so much hope to see her again, he did his best to track down his friend.
She could be anywhere, but he hoped the spirits would take pity on his plight. It was going to be like finding a needle in a haystack, but he would do his best. Surely, someday, somewhen, she might return and they might reunite once more. If he had to travel any further, he might very well need to turn around. There was a likely chance she might have traveled in the opposite direction, but all he could do was hope.
Picking his way through the hills, the green eyed male might very well have missed the sight of something violet-pink on the horizon. He had been about to turn, to go in opposite direction as so he might avoid the large hill, but the color gave him pause. Wait a minute. It couldn't be, could it? Squinting, so he might be sure, he caught the wispy wings that only one mare he knew sported.
Surely that had to be. . . "Nita!" Eyes wide, the stallion bolted forward, pressing onward up the hill. It didn't occur to him that she might not be glad to see him, but at least his task was complete! At the absolute least, he could at least be a gentleman and say good bye and give her good graces. "I didn't think I'd see you again!" He explained as he made his way to the peak of the hill, chest heaving a bit from the strain of his sudden uphill run.
Hopefully she wouldn't frighten off or be offended that he sought her out. He really hadn't thought he'd find her.

Her surprise was complete as she turned to face Galahad. What an amazing thing! To Nita it seemed she had willed the stallion into being right before her, and she found herself laughing out loud at the thought. She smiled at him warmly, relief and happiness flooding her heart. She felt so changed since the last time she had seen him. How long ago was it? A year? A day? She honestly couldn't remember. "Oh Galahad! How happy I am to see you!" She greeted his rush to her with an affectionate nuzzle. Then, remembering herself, she backed away shyly, blushing slightly. "I haven't seen a familiar face in a while."
A thought occurred to her that made her smile all the wider. He had sought her out. Surely he had been worried and had tried to find her. There was a part of her that was guilty for leaving without a goodbye, but a much larger part of herself was pleased at this development. She felt excited and happy. Suddenly, an idea came to her. "Galahad, won't you come with me? I want to see some of the world, like you had before me. I've lived in the shadows so long... I want to live in the light a while and see new things. Won't you come with me?" She was batting her eyelashes, though hardly aware of such a movement. She felt tense, worried he would turn down her request. She ground a hoof into the ground slowly, wondering what exactly had made the stallion come to find her.

Galahad was absolutely beaming with delight. Here was his long lost friend, standing before him, nuzzling him. She was real. It was strange, but his heart was still racing even after he had caught his breath, and he couldn't keep the ridiculous smile off his expression. His green eyes watched her every move, and he couldn't help but marvel at his luck. Here was the most beautiful mare, and one of his most dearest friends, one he hadn't thought he'd ever see again!
"I'm so glad I managed to find you," he breathed, still trying to find a proper reason for seeking her out. It had confused even him when he had taken to such an upset at the knowledge of her disappearance. It wasn't a very wise idea to go chasing after a flutter, especially when one hadn't any idea where she might have gone! Still, the stallion realized that he admitted to seeking her out, and didn't want her to think poorly of him for it. Dipping his head, he gave a small self-deprecating chuckle, almost shyly himself as he allowed some of his longer bangs to hid his gaze. "I mean, I had heard you left and so abruptly. I had wanted to at least say good bye, so what started out as a small quest turned in to a bit of a journey. I hope you don't mind that I tracked you down, I . . . I just wanted to see you one last time, before you left."
There. His intentions had been harmless, even if it was a bit strange. Whatever had gotten in to him lately? He really didn't know, wasn't sure, but he did hope that Nita might not mind. Still, his ears pricked forward and he was surprised at her sudden entreaty. She wasn't driving him away or shooing him off. In fact, she as actually inviting him to continue on with her, wherever she might go!
He knew his family wouldn't be worried, he had sent word that he hoped to seek out Nita, and his mother had encouraged it. Surely some more time away wouldn't hurt, besides, he did wish to wander again. He had spent so many years with Kaiya, that the need to roam was almost second nature. He didn't care to do it alone though, and here is dear friend was inviting him along. "Are you sure you won't mind the company? I really didn't mean to intrude upon you, I know how some times someone needs time alone and away from familiar faces." He searched her gaze, hoping that she truly did wish for him to come along. Still, he dipped his hed most formally and added, "But if the lady wishes the company of a good knight, I would be most honored to travel with you. We can discover much of the world together, if you like, for while I did do extensive travels with Kaiya, there is still much even I haven't seen."
It was true. He had spent many days with his angeni companion, but they didn't often sight see and sometimes didn't get to stay long in areas. They were driven out by beasts and shadows, nightmares he could have never imagined. So to get to explore with Nita, with a mare who was his friend but also someone who just wanted to see the color that life could bring. He couldn't turn such an offer away, for there was much color in the world that he hadn't been able to see.

Her heart was beating so fast! He had wanted to see her one last time! That he wanted to see her at all.... that he thought so much of her to come find her sent thrilled shivers through her body that she tried to hide. It seemed almost too much for her to take in, but she kept an outward appearance of calm. She didn't want him to think her a fool, though the way she had run off twice now proved she was one! Well she wasn't running now and had no intention of leaving the stallion behind. "I've had enough time alone," she said firmly. The depth of those words stuck her rather profoundly though. Yes, she had had quiet enough time alone ever since Galahad first left when they were young. The filly had withdrawn some from their familiar haunts, though at the time she hadn't thought of it. She stored the ideas away for later consideration.
"A familiar face is everything I need right now, Galahad, and I would love to see some of the places you've seen. And I would love even more to find some places you haven't!" The mare was a rare vision of confidence and adventurousness. A smile was beaming on her face, her pale eyes were alight and she was glowing in the moonlight. "First thing tomorrow we can set out. For now, let's enjoy the cool night air a bit."

Galahad couldn't keep the smile from his features. There was something exhilarating about seeing the violet touched mare, and he was ever so thankful to the spirits for giving him this opportunity. The fact he had actually found her, after all this time, it was amazing to him. Even more was the fact she seemed just as content to be in his presence.
Well, they were friend, after all, so perhaps it wasn't that amazing The fact she didn't shoo him away and actually invited him to travel with her, well, that was an offer he wouldn't give up. No. Wherever she wished to roam, he would follow. He would show her the world, give her the stars, and hope she could appreciate their time together.
. . . .wait. Give her the stars?
Galahad's thoughts almost surprised him, though he gave no visible reaction. Well, it was a friendly thing for him to think of, certainly, but he had never been a sentimental sort. Where had that come from? Oh well. He would think upon the days events later, for now, his focus was solely on his flutter-winged friend. "Well have a good time, I promise," he added, glad to see her so social and accepting of his presence. She had always been a shy figure, and while he respected her need for quiet and her place as an observer, he was also glad that he could share some new memories with her.
Perhaps he could even show her some local haunts Kaiya and he had traveled? If he could introduce her to his mentor, he was certain Kaiya and she would get along splendidly. Well, the angeni had promised to seek him out after her personal business was completed, so someday they would reunite. "There's much of this world I haven't seen too. I think travel will do us both some good."
Looking over the hill, Galahad admired the view before turning his head up. "There is much to enjoy this night, beauty can be found everywhere. Even the first stars are beginning to twinkle and dance." The pale stallion couldn't help but give a small grin before looking back at his friend. "Have you ever had your fortune told by the stars?" He asked, curious. He had met many a gypsy in his travels, and knew a few of their tricks. "Or your hoof read?"

She had turned her gaze out to the night sky as she listened to him, oddly calmed by his presence. Her thoughts took flight and began to wander, and in their wandering Galahad was there, a strong presence among the swirling confusion of her recent days. The stars began to sparkle in the darkening sky and she felt even more at home as the darkness enshrouded them. She kept stealing glances at her friend and admiring how much he stood out in the shadows, and how his eyes sparkled. For a fleeting moment she wished she knew what color they were.
Her eyes turned back to the stars and she started a moment at Galahad's suggestion. "My fortune read in the stars? Hoof reading? Are such things possible?" She turned back to him curiously. "I've never even heard of things like that. How is it done? Will you read my fortune?"
((I don't know if it was ever mentioned because I keep forgetting it myself, but she was born colorblind))

Galahad was glad that the spirits had granted him this moment. When Nita had disappeared, seemingly without a trace, without notice or word, he had waited. And worried. And wanted nothing more than to at least see her one more time. How much of his life had he lived without his friend? It had been sheer luck that he had come across her upon his return home, but before they had truly a chance to catch up, she had fled. . . .
But here they were. Together. And she had invited him to journey with him, to travel. Surely they could catch up with one another, could make up for all the time lost during his absence. It was a good night tonight, and the stallion couldn't wait for what the morning might bring.
As Nita spoke of her surprise at such things, the green eyed stallion gave a small chuckle. "I've only heard of them a time or two, but some species out there swear by it! I was able to learn a few of their tricks, but I'd likely take it with a wink and a grin. Furthermore, considering I'm a novice, if my readings are far from accurate you can just blame me." Giving a flick of his tail, the stallion sauntered forth and bridged the distance between the petite mare and himself. He leaned his head down, as if to graze, and studied her delicate hoof.
"There's a lot of things a hoof can tell. . . What fortune would you like read? I was taught how to read a health line, a longevity line, how your overall life looks to turn out, how many children you're supposed to have, and . . .the love line." Part of Galahad couldn't believe he was actually doing this, but Kaiya and he had enjoyed the games of the gypsies. Whether or not what they said was true was up to speculation, but he withheld enough of their information to be certain he could conjure some things from Nita's hoof.

Her mind couldn't help but wander to her father and family. her eyes darkened with the secret she still hid from even Galahad. She wasn't sure how me might take her father's "gift" of seeing the dead. She masked her uncertainty with a smile as Galahad spoke of gypsies. He bent towards her hoof and she grew excited despite herself. "You could read all of that?" She glanced down at her hoof with doubt. It seemed plain enough to her. She furrowed her brow, thinking on the choices that were laid before her. She began to chew her lip unconsciously at the ideas of love and children. She wasn't quite ready to explore those ideas! "How about longevity? How long am I to live?" She winked playfully at him and lifted her hoof for him to better see it. "Does my dainty hoof tell you much," she asked half sarcastically after a pause. She was curious what he was going to "see" in her longevity line. "Have you ever had your fortune told Galahad?"

Galahad was pleased that his friend was going along with his idea. It was a bit of a whim, but he figured it might be fun. Especially since they were out beneath the stars and were enjoying one another's company. How glad he was to be here with her, to have found her after she had so swiftly disappeared!
"Well, I could potentially read all of that. Some of my knowledge is rusty, and as I said, I'm not really a professional hoof reader but . . . I know a few of the lines." Smiling at his friend, he edged closer and lowered his neck so he might better investigate her hoof. He studied the shape of the pink hooves, as well as the various lines and cracks that were found upon it. "See, this line here is said to be your life line. Sometimes it's more or less faint, and the deeper it is is, the more in tune with your life you are. See how it travels a good way around your hoof, unbroken? That means you'll likely live to be a ripe old age."
Giving his tail a flick, he chuckled before nodding. "I've had my fortune read a handful of times when I was saving the world with Kaiya. We met all sorts of strange individuals, and some of them were so certain and sure of their fortune telling that it was hard to argue. I think it's an amusing past time, though I also wouldn't say what they claim is entirely accurate either. I've heard many things about my life, though there are some predictions I'm still waiting to see if they come true."

She bent her head along with him to see the lines he was speaking about. She could feel how close they were and she was aware of her short hair brushing against his neck. She felt excited and happy and couldn't pull away as he spoke. "So I'm supposed to live for a long time, huh?" She smiled at him. "Well that's a comfort, but I don't know how much stock I put in these things. I'd like to think we make our own destinies." She rose and looked at him coquettishly. "What sort of predictions were given about you?" Time seemed to be standing still and she could hardly believe how long they'd stood there talking. She wasn't yet ready for it to end!

Galahad felt her hair brush against neck, as well as her close proximity. Part of the stallion was comfortable and completely at ease with her presence. She was Nita, his friend, after all . . . But at the same time, the slightest brush of her hair against him cause a strange fluttering within his stomach. Had he gone that long without the touch of another? His mothers embrace, his brothers nudge . . . .? Was he just unaccustomed to such things?
No. This was different . . way different, but he couldn't entirely know why. On the one hand, it was nice to be close to his quiet friend. She had always been kind and friendly, and he had been so relieved to have found her! But at the same time, he found he really enjoyed her immediate presence. He could feel the warmth of her body, enjoy her scent, and see just how pretty she really was. Her silver eyes were like pools of starlight, bright and mysterious . . .
. . .but what was he thinking!? This was his friend! He didn't think such things about Nocturne, certainly not, nor of his mentor Kaiya. So why was he suddenly feeling like he was only now seeing his friend for the first time? Thankfully, Galahad was an even-tempered individual, and he kept his thoughts (and slight confusion) hidden and to himself. He could podner upon such things later. Maybe it was just the moonlight and the stars, his joy of having found her that was playing tricks on him.
Chuckling a bit, the stallion gave a small shrug and a flick of his ear. "I don't put much stock in to it either. Like you, I do believe we make our own destinies, and the stars and moons and spirits can sit by as witness. Living is all about choice, after all, just as I chose to seek you out. . . and just as you choose to let me stay." The gratitude in his words were obvious, even as he smiled gently at the mare.
While she hadn't retreated, even with their close proximity, he himself had yet to back away. Galahad truly didn't mind her presence, and liked how he was able to better see her so close. She really was a beautiful mare.
"Oh, I . . . I don't remember everything. One gypsy told me that my heart would help ease the confliction of another, though even I'm not entirely sure what that means. I think they knew I was traveling with the Angeni of Redemption, so I suppose such a thing would be easy to say. I've been told my life had started out adventurous, which was true, but would quiet down in my later years. And I'm supposed to have a handful of foals." He chuckled and gave a little shrug, green eyes bright. "Some of these predictions were fairly generic. . .but others seemed to have a bit more substance than others. I suppose we'll see if the choices I make follow the cracks and colors of my own cloven hoof."

Even as the stallion admired her, she was admiring him. He had become so grown up, broad and strong. The mare was small already, thanks to her flutter blood, and she was much more comfortable with the stallion near. There was a stillness, a peace when she was with him and she welcomed it. Was this companionship? Had she really never felt connected before? This can't be true. She was close to her family... but never had she felt this way around another. Even around Nocturne... her thoughts seemed to pause as her friend came to mind. Something had changed. She didn't feel what she had before when thinking about him, though there was still the twang of rejection. She shook her head gently to clear her mind. "I'm sure you have helped many lost souls on your journeys. Perhaps we can do some of that work together too? I have been hidden for so long in the shadows; I want to see the world as you do." At the mention of foals she couldn't help a smile. "You would make a wonderful father." Her eyes shifted away shyly. She felt like a foolish young filly!

Galahad would never have expected his friend to admire him. His own thoughts were such a new development that he couldn't and wouldn't fathom Nita might find him appealing. They were just friends, after all, and from everything that he gathered she was smitten with another. Still, the world would be what it would be, and the green eyed unicorn knew that there was always some sort of plan and reasoning behind the way of the world.
He was here to support Nita as a friend, anything else would be . .. well. . . .there wouldn't be anything else, so, he wouldn't have to worry about it. He had traveled all this way hoping to find her again, if only to see her smile before she took her leave; but now he would travel with her, and he wasn't going to betray her trust by some strange feelings.
Poor Galahad. He was still young in some ways, and there were some teachings he missed out on while roaming the world with Kaiya. He'd never looked upon a mare as he now did Nita, and he really wasn't sure what it meant or what to do about it. Oh well. He'd meditate and pray later, and push such thinking to the wayside.
"I'd like to think I've helped at least a few, but I suppose only those I've met would know the truth." His ears did p***k and his eyes did widen some in surprise as she made her request. To return to some of his older work, to walk the path of light and good? It was a calling he had long resisted, but he had considered seeking out his old mentor before bumping in to Nita again. "Well, I can certainly introduce you to the ways that I walk. If you'd like, I have considered seeking out my old mentor, the Angeni of Redemption. The journey would be long, but . . . I could introduce you to the work I do on the way, and I know my old friend would love to meet my foalhood friends I talked about while learning from her. It would be a great little adventure. . . .and we could always turn back if need be or the desire would strike."
At her comment about being a wonderful father, he couldn't help but chuckle and give a shake of his head. "I don't know. . . I . . . I'd like to think I would be, but I guess it isn't something I've thought much of. I mean, sure, I'd like to settle down someday but I've been so busy until my return home I never thought much about my future. I've been too worried about the futures of others," he admitted sheepishly, giving a shrug. Not just Nita's but everyone else he'd worked to save and help during his time with and without Kaiya.
"Who knows though, right? Guess we'll see what the future brings."
