Zac's call had made her brow furrow. Initially that reaction had been because she couldn't remember giving the little twerp her number (although she knew someone who might have), but it soon developed into something more; something serious. Now her brow was furrowed and she was pacing; wondering... Thinking too hard... Too many things.
Eventually she picked her phone up with a soft huff, flipping it open to dial an all-too-familiar number.
The first time it went to voice mail she hung up without leaving a message, tossing the phone down onto her bed while spewing out a small tirade as she stalked around before picking up the phone to try again. The result was two more hang ups before she finally gave in to leaving a voice mail.
"Demy... It's me. Cordy. I'm sure you knew that, at the very least, if you saw my number pop up on your phone, but... For the sake of just saying it, I'll say it again. It's me, Cordy. The girl you've known since you were small enough to think that brownies made of mud might actually taste good with enough sprinkles? The girl who makes sure you come bake cookies with her every Christmas... The girl who's your friend, even if she likes to try and deny it every now and then?
I just... I just wanted to call and let you know that if you ever need anything, anything at all, you know where to find me. Even when I'm at that stupid school you know where my house is and you can wait there and..."
There was a pause where she almost wondered if the voice mail system had cut her off. She waited a bit longer and when she didn't hear any beeps she continued.
"Zac called. He seemed worried; said he hadn't seen you since, well, I'm guessing since sometime after you left my place on Christmas to go see him. If he hasn't heard from you, I definitely know that something's up... And now you're not answering when I call?
I hope you're not doing anything stupid, Demetri Wright, or so help me... When they dredge your body out of the reservoir I'll find a way to bring you back just so I can kill you myself."
This time she huffed and then there was another short pause.
"I mean it, Demy... I hope you're okay. Please, just... Check in when you get a chance? I know there's been a lot going on around town lately, but... There's never too much going on that we can't make time for the things that matter; for the people who matter. There's never so much going on that we can't make time to be there for friends.
Just don't... Don't do anything stupid. Troll..."
The final pause was followed by Cordelia hanging up her phone, setting it down carefully on her nightstand before curling up in bed, arms wrapping around the teddy bear that had been in amongst her Christmas gifts. Hopefully he'd check in with someone. Hopefully.
