It had been a successful hunt, and Mai felt rather proud of himself. His last couple of attempts had failed as he tried to get used to unfamiliar terrain, but he'd finally succeeded again! And thus, the leopon found himself happily enjoying the fruit of his labor, a tasty young gazelle. He'd let his guard down a bit as he ate, since he hadn't scented or seen signs of anyone in the immediate area.
She was lazing about, attempting to hunt. Really, Makini didn't feel like hunting, but she was called on the party when one of the others got injured during a wrestling match or something stupid like that. Her whole pride was full over confident felines and whores. Thona, for example. She wanted him so bad, and knew of his reputation. But for some reason, he didn't come to her like she thought he would. Whatever. She'd get some one way or another. Oh the joys of being female. Makini let out a loud sneezed after a while, claws extending because it had actually startled her.
Mai started when he heard the sneeze, nearly dropping the leg bone he'd been chewing on, trying to get at the marrow. Uh...s**t. He wasn't as alone as he'd thought. Looking around, he glared at the vulture trying to eye his meal, raising a paw threateningly. The looked in the direction of the sneeze. Ah...there was the scent. "You okay?" Man was he glad he kinda-blended in with the grasses.
Makini froze when she heard the voice and let a low growl fill her throat, lips parting to show yellow teeth. So she didn't have the most beautiful teeth in the world, but whatever. But.. she heard the tone of the voice and pinned her ears back, kind of calming down. ".........Yeah, I'm fine... Some dried grass tickled my nose." Her tail flicked as she rose above the grass, trying to find who was talking.
Mai poked his head above the grass, risking being seen. If he needed to...well, he'd had enough to get his belly to stop growling at him. He could run. Or fight. He WAS a big boy, after all (something that seemed to be a common trait with he and other leopons...). "Ah. The grass around here does seem to be really dry. Sorry if I startled you. I'm afraid your sneeze startled me."
So they'd startled each other. She found his face very appealing, knowing what he was right away. There were a few of them running about the pride she was from. "Didn't mean to startle you. I thought I was alone.." She snorted, trying to get that itching feeling from her nose. When it wouldn't budge, Makini rubbed her paw against her nose and sniffed. "You're not from the pride... Obviously not one of Thona's. No spots. So who are you?"
Mai chuckled, nodding. "I thought I was fairly alone too. Well...save this vulture here..." He glared at the thing before it decided to fly away. He looked back to the lioness, blinking. "There's a pride nearby? Ah, I'm Maisha. I've never heard of this 'Thona' fellow. Does he have a large family?"
"There's a pride near, yeah." She wouldn't say the name of the pride or where it was. "Makini. And yeah, I suppose he has a large family. There's quite a few of his kids running around the pride. And none of them are really fun to be around." Makini remembered her first encounter with anyone in the pride. It happened to be Thantos. Oh, he was not fun at all.
Mai nodded, sitting up fully. "That's a shame. I rather liked being around the members of my birth pride." Even if some of them had been less than friendly at times. "It's a pleasure to meet you, though, Makini! Might you point out which way the pride is, so I don't accidentally intrude." He knew it was a bad idea to intrude on others' lands.
She pointed straight to her left and smirked. "You don't have to go right away do you?" Her voice took on a husky tone, a purr escaping as well. Sauntering closer to him, Makini got a real good look at him. "You look like you'd fit in well with my pride.." A smirk played across her lips, still purring at him.
The leopon blinked and shook his head. "I don't." He gave her a charming smile, the type that had always brightened the day of his sisters and Mama Luta and aunts and cousins. "If you'd like, there's more than enough from my kill to share, if you're hungry." She had her own sort of beauty, and he wouldn't mind the company a bit. "And thank you. I'm afraid I'm looking for something, however. I can't stay anywhere too long just yet."
She agreed to that and chuckled, moving ahead of him. Cocking her head, Makini signaled him to follow her and off she went through the tall grasses. Maybe this would be worth it after all.
