It was night, the time when the stars above shone brightly down upon the earth and the moon lit the earth with its pale glow. A lone mare stood beneath the stars, her head lifted up, gazing at the constellations as they made themselves clear; no matter where she went, the stars were always there to comfort her. She had traveled far, for many moons, only stopping when the North Wind told her so; during her journeys she had met many interesting characters and even had children, who were now grown and making their mark on the world.

Isabliss’ silver eyes pierced the darkness of the night; the world was sleeping and the soothing sounds of the night called to the mare, asking her to close her eyes and sleep, but she could not. She was the Angeni of Insomnia, she was unable to completely fall asleep, her nights were spent like this one, gazing up at the stars, reliving the journeys she had accomplished and the stories each one had to tell.

Many rises and falls of the moon had passed since the Angeni mare told a living creature of the stories she had acquired during her travels to land far from these lands or learned of a tale from a faraway place. Few believed her tales to be true, others just wrote them off as myth and continued on with their day, but Isabliss knew that even if the Soquili did not believe what she told, they would remember the tale and keep the legend alive.

The night continued on, soon night would end and a new day would be upon the earth. Isabliss smiled, there had to be a reason why she was here, perhaps this new land holds an important component, for the North Wind worked in curious ways. She looked up into the dark star lit sky, could this new day be the beginning of a new story to come?

Insomnia. Could he call it that? Would he?
No, it wasn't insomnia. If anything it was nostalgia. He was a desert creature. Sleep by the scorching day, live and be free by the chilled moon-guided hours of night. This land, full of green, moist shade and change was different than his home. He had to run on a different clock here. Here, the night was for sleep the day for the adventures. Here, if he was to be what he was being now, he was an oddity.
Not that his mane and overall appearance ever helped him in his new home when it came to acceptance.

Ceros stood, silent and detached in a thicket of trees, simply thinking the moments that stars were counting away. Monoceros had lived her quite awhile now. He had new experiences, new friends. he had even found love in its purest form. Though, even though he was no longer the strange stallion who exited the desert lost and confused, he was still partially himself. He still woke in the middle of nights (or never fell asleep to begin with) and wondered the land like a ghost with his glow and memories.
It always surprised him when he met people in these moments of sleepless fantasy. They were the strangest people. The most perfect people.

it was after all the way he found his most precious darling. He wondered who would find him next.

Quiet stillness settled over the world, another approached; perhaps it was the one that the North Wind wanted her to encounter. A calm excitement settled in over the mare, her sadness fading into nothingness and the memory of her spurned love flowed away in the mental stream of her mind. It was time for her to let go, her depression was a constant bother to herself and those around her, tonight was the start of moving one, for a new story was going to be told, and she could not wait to hear it.

A question settled over the angeni mare, should she wait for the One to approach, or should she try and find the One that the Wind had told her was coming? Before long she realized that she did not need to make the decision, for her hooves had started moving, taking her deeper into the dense woods. Silently the mare wandered, unsure of where she was going or who she would meet this time of night. Minutes passed, but they felt like hours and soon the angeni stopped, this was where she would wait. Her hooves had taken her into a dense wood, with trees that reached for the stars; ancient gnarled trees surrounded the mare. In awe, the angeni walked to the nearest tree and placed her forehead upon its trunk.

Quietly, not wanting to disrupt the stillness of the night, Isabliss whispered to herself, her head still connected to the ancient oak, “Imagine if trees could talk, the stories they would tell; all of the worlds they have seen, the passing of seasons, the changes of the world has endured, and the life of the creatures that reside upon the plant. The trees could teach us many lessons, if only we were not deaf to their call.” Isabliss gave a sad sigh, and wished she could understand the ancient language.

A feeling suddenly overwhelmed him. The stallion stopped in his slow moving steps and looked up at the stars. This feeling was not very new, he had felt it before. A presence. But just as quickly as the feeling had entered his open doors, it had left. Blown away like a whisp of mist or steam. He almost called out into the open for it to return and guide him.

He closed his glowing eyes and imagined the warmth of those cold stars on his dark face, similar to the feeling of the sun in the daylight hours. It radiated and gave birth. it was fire and breath. The stars and moon were stillness and silence. A whisper or a sigh rather than a breath. They lacked the chaos the sun held close. They were just entities, existing without being heard for so long they themselves forgot the memories of their mother's womb.

His large ears suddenly picked up on the sound of whispering and his heart skipped at the thought he was hearing the moon speak to him. But no, this gentle voice was much more earthly. He turned and, from afar, his disciplined eyes could catch a glimpse of tight, thick locks of mane reflecting the inversed light of the dark night.
Was this the feeling that had warned him before? Was it that creature standing far?

He took quick, quiet steps forward. Gracefully leaving all leaves and obstructive branches untouched from their slumber. He was close enough soon to hear the final musings of the, now apparent, mare. Her words were distant even though he was almost right next to her. She was deep in another corner of the universe and he pondered over what beautiful things she was experiencing in that moment of void.
"The lessons they could teach would be wasted on ears in this time and age. They stay silent now because they know few will listen to their twisted tales and ideas. Lives in this time are far too engrossed in all around them. voices heard easily. They do not take the time to listen to old tales. Nevertheless, it is fascinating to find one similar to myself that at least tries to connect with that which is too deep for us to dive."

Quietly she willed the tree to speak to her, her mind telling it that she was ready to hear the stories that it possessed, but silence filled the night, until a male voice spoke from behind her; slowly the angeni removed her forehead from the tree. A feeling settled over it, it was as if the tree grounded her and took away her pain, with clear eyes she was able to look over the stallion. He must be the one the North Wind wished for her to meet; he was a stallion who was different from any she had met on her travels. Was it because he was wandering about at this hour, when most of the other world was asleep and dreaming sweet dreams; or was it because he appeared to be of the night? The angeni mused to herself and then came to the conclusion that he was both; his glowing moon colored horn could attest to that. Soon Isabliss caught herself smiling at the stallion, moon and stars where woven into his mane.

“Sadly, you are correct, today there are very few who would listen to the teachings of the old, for they are more interested in the here and now,” Isabliss gave a sad smile as she thought about what all the others were missing because of this way of thinking, “Yet, I am still hopeful that one day others will realize that they will need this knowledge, and the knowledge of the trees.” Her eyes turned back to the oak that she had tried to communicate with, then her gaze returned to the stallion and smiled, “Yes, it is truly interesting in this times we live in. I am glad to have met a fellow soul who understands the wonders of the natural world and how there is still much to learn.”

This was indeed an amazing circumstance, when the wind guided her to this stallion, she did not know he would be a kindred spirit. Isabliss knew that this encounter would be one filled with enlightened tales and stories of near and far.

The grey angeni bowed her head to the stallion, “I am honored to have met a kindred spirit, I am known as Isabliss.”
