He leaned back in the library chair, an ache was starting low in his back and spanning across his lower rib cage from slumping forward over his studies. Too much to do for school, reading and tests... trying to get out of a handful of classes and into advanced classes was probably a POOR idea at best, but he was trying anyhow. That and his -extra- studies, tactics, psychology... not all of it made sense, right now it just felt like words...words...WORDS. He rubbed his palms hard into his eyes as though by doing so he could make the information stick, it didn't work... he could swear he felt them leaking out his ears and falling onto the carpet. Half of it sounded like it -should- make sense too, things he did just by running by his gut reactions to expressions, the way they moved their eyes... it just worked...but he wanted to know why. He wanted to know what might work BETTER... he had to, he just had to know... maybe then he wouldn't feel so...
Did it matter? The chair creaked and he sighed and closed the book...tabla rasa his a**... never mind the cigar analogies, ink spots, rats in mazes... rats in mazes.... was that all they were? Were reactions and people really something that could be reduced to conditioning and learned behaviors? How could Dem have turned out so different from HIS father then... or he from his mother...or...well Beth's mother could COOK...
He let his gaze wander away from the words, who had started to seem as though they would move of their own accord, sliding away from his focus and skipping him past whole paragraphs without understanding a word of what was written there. He tilted his head blinking, unsure of who he thought he saw just a table or two away, slumped down over a thick book and using its pages as her pillow.
"...Adira?" he blinked, pushed his chair out and had to stretch before continuing over to reach a cautious hand and touch her lightly on the shoulder. Somehow seeing someone he'd considered a 'socialite' slumped over a tome that was thicker than both his arms pressed together was not high on his list of probability. The subject too surprised him... law?

Adira swore that would be the last time of taking the short way home by henshining up. Apparently when one got a power upgrade, they also broad-casted a big neon sign that read 'tasty snack' to any youma in the vicinity. So instead of getting home quicker to study, Super Sailor Perseus found herself entangled with not only one, but three separate youma. It had massively cut into her schedule, just like being a senshi always had. But tonight, she couldn't mess with it. Adira told Elegancia that she wasn't going to be patrolling and headed to the place that was as far away from youma as she could manage- the library.
The tome she was studying from actually used to belong to the library at some point, but Mr. Darrow had given it to her in compensation for the incident that had occurred nearly a year ago at this point. It had certainly come in handy in the several beginner's law courses she had taken at Sovereign Heights, and would probably continue to still be useful after she'd moved to DCU.
Currently, however, the many pages of the book made a surprisingly comfy, if unexpected, pillow. She hadn't meant to fall asleep, obviously, but all the activity as of late was running her a bit ragged. The touch on her shoulder was enough to jolt her out of her light slumber, body starting and eyes darting up to see just who had come upon her. At first she thought it was a librarian, scolding her for sleeping, but on closer inspection the face seemed more familiar than that.
It was the face of the boy she'd met at the Christmas party, what seemed like ages ago. Blinking at him a bit owlishly, Adira tilted her head. "Zac, was it?" She had a penchant for names and faces, and since Zac stuck out from the normal crowd at that party he'd also stuck into her memory. How embarrassing for him to find her sleeping at the library. Her cheeks colored and her gaze bent down to her book, which was looking oddly...soft still. "Thank you for waking me up. Rather embarrassing, but I guess I've just been studying too much lately." She swept her hair over her shoulder and returned her gaze to the short boy on the side of her.

Of course she'd have a hard time remembering his name, silly to think otherwise, she had after all only met 'Zac' once.
"Yeah..." He nodded acknowledging that it was indeed his name. "Um... don't worry about it, I was nearly doing the same thing." He waved a hand at his book on psychology and the few scattered history books feeling... rather like he had failed as an academic when compared to the book on law that she had open before her. "Exams? Or...." He asked struggling to make polite conversation, should he offer to take her for coffee? would that be too bold or to rude? What if she didn't like coffee...no she liked tea...he remembered tea but he couldn't say that, because he'd been Zinkenite at the time, he couldn't even ask about the chess set because Zac didn't have a reason to give her a gift...only Zink did. "I...sorry if I bothered you... um. I um, actually the words were starting to just kinda...not sink in so I was going for some tea, d...did you want some? Or..ah...coffee...coffee is more popular right?"
Why was he so nervous? The library...bookstores, it was like his 'element'...of course normally that was all because of book titles and contents, and general quiet because people were reading.

"Yea, unfortunately for exams. Haven't had enough time to study lately and was trying to make up some lost time." She nodded at him, looking up from her seated position. Thankfully, the height gap wasn't large between them.
"Coffee does tend to be more popular, but I enjoy either." With a thud, Adira shut the giant law book in front of her and tucked it away into the oversize bag that she'd brought it in. "I would enjoy going, if you wouldn't mind the company." The still sleepy girl stood, taking a moment to stretch before opening her eyes again and looking over at Zac.
"Did you have any place in particular in mind?" If he didn't, then she did. Since she had moved in, Adira had scouted out about every coffee and tea place in the entirety of Destiny City, at least in the downtown areas by her apartment and school. She smiled nonchalantly, trying to make him a little less nervous. He was a little different than the party, where he had been all clever statements and interesting quips. His stumbling over words was kind of cute however, in an awkward sort of way.

"Ah... no, no where in particular so long as they don't steep the tea too long or charcoal the coffee beans." He said trying to sound more amicable than nervous... he was fairly certain he failed. God He wanted to ask about the chess set, the words were right there and he beat them down again.
"I was a little surprised to see you there, not...just to see you sleeping I mean, I thought you rather seemed the "Private in home Library" type over the "Town Library." He paused considering glancing at the front Desk and its well know occupant.
"... unless you happen to be one of those people who... has a particular soft spot for the resident Librarian." He offered a small grin, it was both a 'tease' and an utter fish for information.

"Oh, Mr. Darrow? He's a very nice man, but I'm not one of his fanclub groupie girls who spend their time sighing in his general direction over stacks of books." She gave a knowing smile and stood, stowing the bag over her shoulder.
"I know a place nearby that has a decent espresso and a large selection of tea, if you are willing to give it a try." Adira wandered over to his own set of books, several course books on psychology and history. "Interesting choice on books." She ran a hand over the page of the one that was open, feeling its glossy surface underneath her fingertips. "Normally you would be right in that, by the way. Just felt a little cooped up today I guess. Needed some fresh air, even if that air is thick with book dust."
Adira wondered for a brief moment how he pegged her as a library person. She had a rather large selection of books lining her shelves at home, but it wasn't something that she normally flaunted about. Perhaps he had just assumed based on their last discussion of books? Either way, she brushed it from her mind and smiled at Zac. "Shall we?"

"Ah...yes please, lead on!" He said pushing slightly at his own odd assortment of books. "I was just..." He trailed off fumbling for a reason for such odd choices. "Trying to get a jump start on things, I want to go far...and I'll admit It's a bit of a cop out, choosing topics that interest me."
"So... Tea or Coffee?" He asked, though he knew at least she liked tea...he just couldn't say that. "What's your normal beverage of choice if it's not too bold a question to ask a member of 'high society'." There was just an edge of nervous tease in his voice when he spoke.

"Its the topics that interest you that you are more likely to succeed at when studying." It was true, of course, since people liked learning what they were interested in. The girl smiled and pushed open one of the thick library doors, nearly blinded by the sunlight on the other side. It was still chilly out, the last remnants of winter clinging to the weather. However, despite this it was still an overall nice day. Adira paused a moment to adjust her eyes and hold the door open for Zac.
At the rest of his questions, however, Adira gave a wry smile. "I would prefer... for you to not call me 'high society' Zac." She knew it was teasingly said on his part, but the thought of being labeled as separated or snooty because of it was enough to get her spirits down. Being a senshi had at least taught her that pretty much everyone was an equal when it got right down to it. The girl kept pace with her companion, leading him to the tea shop not to far down.
"I love both of them. I couldn't choose between the two for a favorite." She paused to think. "Though, today is more of a coffee day to be honest. Need the caffeine." Adira smiled and pointed out the coffee shop ahead of them. 'Escape Cafe' was written in silver lettering above the door.

"Oh.. sorry..." he shuffled in embarrassment at his faux pas to call her 'high society', feeling that somehow he should have known she would find it offensive. "I just worry that the things I'm interested in might be more more limited use in society than studying what's needed." He added shifting the topic as he tried to get the door for her.
No reason not to be polite like that after all, well, unless she was offended by that kind of thing. It wasn't at all that he was trying to imply that she couldn't do so on her own after all. His brain went into over drive at the possibilities of failure.

"Its alright. You'd be surprised how much the limited use things can actually help in the long run." It was like people who took Latin and therefore could read and understand the Latin-based languages better. Adira took the opened door with a smile, slipping inside the climate controlled smoothness of the coffee shop. "Thank you." Smooth, nondescript music played in the background, and the interior was minimalistic but comfortable. The woman behind the counter was quick in picking up their orders, and they ended up settled in comfy chairs by the window with a table in-between.
Unlike the quiet rows of the library, the coffee shop was a place for conversation and friendship. Instead of studying in the quiet library, the two of them found themselves pouring through their books in the quiet ease of the coffee shop, intermingled with pleasant conversation and the beginnings of a friendship.
What a strange twist of cosmic fate, bringing together secret rivals to talk pleasantries in a civilian coffee shop.
