Life was just...so much more exhilarating! Sure, he had done a few things in his life that had been exciting. One of them leaving his home, finding his own place in life, and settling in this pride. But this? Being in love was the best!

He had gone out hunting, but after the small catch he wasn't feeling very hungry. It was easy enough to find someone grateful for the meal; this was what he was meant to do. In return, he knew that he was safe at night, as long as he did his part and helped to keep the pride fed.

Instead of eating, he was hoping to find Amalthea. There was just one more step...and hopefully he wouldn't fumble it up!

Amalthea wasn't sure what to do with herself for the day, everything was so muddled and strange seeming after the death of the queen- especially since her father was one of the more active and social slaves. Like some of the others, she'd been hanging around with Unyezi and Nerit a little more-- and she'd been keeping track of her father, it wasn't really a secret what was happening soon with him.. and he was especially interested in hearing about her since he had a similar opinion about her.

She seemed to be cycling around with visiting various lions and it was about time to find Horatio again- which she always found to be the most enjoyable. Especially since resolving not to be so awkward about it. That was just better, too. And as long as nobody tried to call her on it, it would always just be nice and easy.

She wasn't sure where she would find him but she walked around, relying on some subconscious idea of where he normally was and.. the luck that had always seemed to bring them together in the past.

Horatio was trying to remember where she normally visited her father. Pity, though, that his memory wasn't too good...but it just happened to be good enough that he was in the right general area. Wandering around himself, it took a little time to finally spot her. Even with so many other members of the pride, she always stuck out to him. In the most perfect way possible.

He trotted over to her, his mane swishing in the soft breeze. It felt like a perfect night...but he would always say that. Anything!

Man was he in love. Crazy male.

"Amalthea!" he greeted her softly. He didn't want to call attention that they met a lot. If only because...well, he didn't want to make it seem like there was something wrong with this. It was simple, but when left to interpretation...well. He knew what might happen.

He wanted to do this right.

"Horatio!" she called back, smiling widely when she realized she'd found him. He was getting easier and easier to find, they were spending so much more time together now and even when they separated they never seemed to get far apart.

"I was hoping to find you," she said brightly, "Have you had a good day?"

He was thrilled to see her, but was trying to school himself into being calmer. It hadn't been too terribly long since he had confessed his feelings for her, but after that she seemed to be more relaxed, and that made Horatio feeling a bit...braver.

"I've had a wonderful day," he said with a smile. "Got to get a little energy out hunting today, and so I figured I would look for you! I take it you've had a good day as well?"

"It's been a quiet day, not bad, though," she answered honestly. It was kind of sad around Unyezi and Nerit but the cubs didn't really understand what had happened and kept it light enough.. still, didn't make for the best of days. At least chatting with her father was generally cheerful and now she had found Horatio and all sorrow was forgotten.

"Did you catch anything tasty?"

Horatio didn't really deal with sorrow well, and as such he had mostly been ignoring it. He had only been quiet when the word spread, and let himself be apart from most of the other pride. He didn't want to inadvertently offend anyone around him.

"Just a gazelle. Found someone who was a little hungry to hand it off to, so I feel a little accomplished today." He smiled, glancing around for a moment.

"I was just ah....looking for you. I had something that I wanted to ask..."

She giggled at his carefree mention of the gazelle and giving it away, both were impressive. Amalthea wasn't the best huntress, but she hadn't spent as much of her time on such tasks as an actual hunter did. She was still smiling when he started saying he was looking for her- they always seemed to be looking for each other, that was hardly a surprise. And except for the way he trailed off, there was nothing suspicious about what he said.

"What was that?" she asked.

"Ah. Erm. Um. Well...." Ugh. This felt even more difficult than when he had told her he really liked her. A lot. This was a step that he had learned was a big one, even if he was only in the lower-middle class. Hell, a lot of the upper classes probably wouldn't care much. But...it mattered a lot to him.

He gulped, and let himself take a moment to breathe.

"Amalthea, I would be honored if you would marry me."

Dive right in, classic Horatio style!

The more he faltered, the less simple and light the tone of the whole conversation seemed to become. It was familiar, in many ways, to the conversation they had had not too long ago.. and of course the previous conversation had been a lead-in to what was coming but it didn't make it any less exciting.

It wasn't really a question, it was a statement. But it very clearly demanded a response.

"I- I would like that very much," she said, surprising herself with how easy it was to say.

He grinned. Like, really really wide. He felt like he could just...pop! Instead of bouncing around like he normally would, though, he couldn't get himself to move. He lowered his head, a soft, gentle bow. A true way for him to extend his gratitude towards her.

"I think you've just made me the happiest I could ever be."

He drew himself close to her, to embrace her with his fluffy mane. "I know it will be a while...but I can wait, knowing the outcome."

Amalthea's smile did not quite match his own but she felt the same bursting feeling. It was almost like they had traded places, where he was able to stay calm and careful, she was struggling to remain still. Only her tail whipped about with energy and excitement she otherwise contained. The time it would take for this to happen hadn't even crossed her mind, but she hadn't been the one to take the step forward like this. Weddings always waited until the full moon but the next full moon was reserved.

"I love you," she murmured, pressing in against him when he moved closer.

And bam. Horatio's face was flushed with just how...overwhelmed he was. He knew it, really, but hearing it from the source was just reminding him about how lucky he was.

"I love you too," he said. "Perhaps we should tell your father?" Horatio probably should have asked...but he...well, this was a bit of an impulse, that he decided on the hunt. Hopefully he wouldn't get a walloping. Horatio liked not being...well, damaged!

She snuggled closer but moved back when he mentioned her father, managing not to laugh. Maybe it was a big deal to check with her father, maybe it wasn't- but now he was going to be King.. it probably did seem that much more important to have his blessing. He and Lela would have to know anyway.

"Perhaps," she agreed, "I don't know that he'll be very surprised- or that you should look that worried." It was slight but the change when he mentioned telling her father was there. Thoth was very easy-going, there were only a few extreme cases when he seemed to overwhelmed.

He laid his ears back against his head. "Ok...well. I just...hope so. You're right, you know him much better than me." Gulp. Well, he needed to turst Amalthea and relax. He still intended on telling him, but would let Amalthea balance that. She would have a much better idea of the right time. With the...transition the pride was going in as a while.

Oh yeah.

He sighed. "Sorry, Amalthea. Just over thinking things, I guess. Not even really my usually MO, is it?" He wrinkled his nose and laughed.
