The pale figure of the princess – well, Queen really, but she struggled to think of her as such yet – was framed by rocks as she stood at the edge of one of the cliffs. She was sure-footed, so she didn't fear she'd fall. She was raised in this landscape and she knew her own body and it's limits. But even now, having helped some of the pack that morning, the sun was high in the sky and already she was exhausted. It was not physical, as her body still stood straight and strong, but mentally. This was all a daunting task. Rebuilding a pride that she might not have been ruler of, had the mountain not turned against her family?

She shook her head, attempting to cast the doubt from her mind. She was managing. They were all managing. The sick had been healed, or were healing, and they were starting a new. As shown by the new pups which had graced them. Kurruoa's pups were a blessing, the next generation of the pack. It made Vorona think. If she died...what would happen to the pack. Unconsciously, she took a step back from the ledge. She was the end of her family, except for her cousin, Nyota'nene, but would the mountain accept Nene as Queen? Vorona held back a sigh and tilted her face upwards, to face the sun. What must I do now, Mother? She asked the sky silently, wishing her mother would answer.

User Image It had been a early morning for the young Fivin, but in spite of his outward appearance of being proper and collected, he still had the energy of youth. His mother had been doing well to get her pups into the habit of getting up with the sun, a habit to which Fivin took to quite readily. Mornings were energizing and the usual calm made for excellent time to think and ponder the day. Today, he had decided to memorize as much of the terrain as he could manage and you better believe he fully intended on quizzing himself regularly down the road. It was never too early to start learning after all. The pup had set out after breakfast and some training with his family.

Now that the sun was higher in the sky, the cloud cover was a little clearer which suited him just fine. Fivin would have probably even been out if it had been raining or misty. Not so much if the area was thick with fog, but maybe after he learned to traverse the area with utmost confidence. To get lost even before his coming of age trial would look bad and, in his mind, would not bode well for him. Small steps before the larger leaps and bounds. There were ways to do things and it was foolish, in his opinion, to get ahead of himself before he was ready.

While having set himself to his task, his determination hadn't robbed him of his social etiquette. If greeted or addressed, the pup always answered politely and properly. With his head down to learn the scent of his present trail, Fivin paused his investigating and memorizing when he came across the scent of another, the Queen. Lifting his pale gaze, it took only a moment to spot her a little ways ahead, standing firmly on a ledge. The boy blinked, his mind racing for a moment. He had never been alone when around the Queen and now here he was. Shaking himself and taking a deep breath to soothe himself, he drew a little closer before speaking. It wouldn't do to shout a greeting at her. Some impression that would make, especially since she seemed to be thinking in the sunlight. "Good day, m'lady." Oh no! Was m'lady a proper greeting? Would 'Your Highness' or 'Your Ladyship' have been better? A little frown passed across his muzzle as he briefly puzzled over this. Huffing a small sigh through his nose at his potential faux pas, Fivin calmed himself and looked up to the fair Vorona. "Are you well today? I hope I'm not intruding..."

Vorona was surprised to be addressed, and glanced across towards the voice who called to her as 'm'lady'. It was a nice change from everyone calling out to her as Queen this and Queen that. What really surprised her was the fact that it was a pup who had so politely addressed her, and a small smile came to her face as she recognised what litter he must have been from. Dame Kurroa's litter, the first of many litters to come, she hoped, and the first of the new generation of the pack.

"Good day, young one," she greeted him, her voice soft. She didn't know his name, so she couldn't address him completely formally. "Oh no, you are not intruding," she told him honestly, with a slight sigh. She glanced out at the landscape around them, and shook her head. "Merely thinking thoughts that help us none." Realising this was perhaps too heavy a conversation to have with a pup, she smiled at him.

"How are you fairing today, young one? Slipping out of your mother's sight for a while, are you?" It was a light tease. Vorona liked pups. They were adorable, and she could remember her time being one fondly. The landscape really was a wonderful play to grow up, even if it was a bit dangerous at times.

Oh, huzzah! He hadn't offended her and he wasn't intruding on her solitude. Those facts made Fivin feel immensely better about the situation. The little pleased wagging of his ruddy tail did well to show that he was glad of it. If he had offended and his presence wasn't wanted, he probably would have apologized, asked for forgiveness, then excused himself back to the den to have a sit down with himself to see what he could have done better for future reference.

Dipping his head in greeting, he smiled brightly in return. "I'm glad then. Would you mind some company for a while?" The pup blinked at her statement, tipping his head slightly sideways for a moment before righting himself. "I'm sure that you will think of something. I can try to help you, if you would like." Granted, he didn't really know how much help he could be, being as young as he was, but he was more than willing to at least listen and let her talk through whatever she was thinking on.

"I am well, m'lady. Thank you for asking." At Vorona's tease, the lad blinked surprised before a somewhat sheepish grin passed over his features. "I wanted to make sure that I knew every step our home has to offer so that I can be ready to capably serve when I grow up. I want to be sure to be prepared." Fivin nodded with certainty and then seemed to pause for a brief moment, a realization settling in his brain. Where were his manners?! He hadn't introduced himself! The pup didn't mind being addressed as 'young one' but it seemed only proper to introduce himself to the pack's monarch. It was their first meeting, after all. Shaking himself, he straightened up to his modest full height. "M'lady, before I forget and run on without my manners, my name is Fivin, and it's a honor to meet you." Ah, there. He had done well and the content little grin on his face showed his relief.

Vorona gave the pup a warm smile, pleased at his attitude. She did love to watch the pups, just to see how the future of the pack would behave, and if they were all like this kind, polite lad, then she knew the pack would be just fine. "I would love some company, little one," she told him warmly. "But lets not think of serious things today, let us think and speak of happier, lighter things." She suggested, not wishing to burden the youth with her fears for the pride - of which there were many but she would never admit to.

"Aah, that's good pre-planning," she told him, with a small smile, nodding her head. She wished she had paid more attention to their home when she was younger - though she went through the same lessons as her sisters, she had not always been the most studious, which she now regretted.

She looked surprised at his introduction but bowed her head to him. "It is an honor to meet you too, young Fivin," she told him quiet honestly, a little embarrassed by his manners but pleased that they were still being taught to the younger generations. There were days she forgot she was Queen and demanded more respect. "I'm sure your mother has taught you my name, but you are welcome to call me Vorona, if you wish, instead of M'lady." She smiled.
