My other half bought the home fitness program. It comes with a butt load of DVD's and a very indepth meal plan. We're starting today.

Thoughts before the actual work:
For me, it's a bit too in depth. I'm not much of a fan of lots of reading before doing something. That is, I never read the instructions.

The program does focus a lot of meals and eating right, which is good. However, it's expensive. Boyfriend went shopping for two meals worth of food and it was over $50. Also, the ingredients in the meals seems really whacky. Our omelet today consisted of eight egg yolks each. That's 16 egg whites between the both of us. burning_eyes

Now I've done the work out. It's really super fun. It was an hour and it went by really fast. Tony Horton is a bit of a weirdo and may be hopped up on sugar/drugs, but if you take it as a distraction, it'll work for you. If not, you may throw your weights through your TV.

It'll be interesting to see how sore I am tomorrow. I kinda cheated and didn't push myself that hard because I knew I was going to have to do another hour the next day.

Yay I'm so glad you're doing this! I competed P90X for the first time in early 2009. It's my favorite workout ever. I stuck to the exercise plan exactly as directed and it worked like crazy. I didn't do the meal plan, I ate really healthy on my own though.

Tony Horton will grow on you. I'm still doing the same DVDs two years later and I haven't gotten tired of them, although now I mix up my workouts with the Insanity program and running.

As for all the reading, for the most part all I did was follow the three pages with the Phases on them. Actually they're hanging on my bulletin board. The rest of it is definitely worth a read, but it's not really necessary to do it before you begin. I did use the spreadsheet on my computer the first time through and it was a nice way of tracking progress. It's a good idea to take the measurements first as directed because you'll want to note changes.

Are you using weights or bands? I use weights, but the bands seem good. I had a bad experience with bands in the past when one broke and I already had these Bowflex Selectech dumbbells which are perfect.

You might get sore at first and think its crazy to work out when you're sore and want to skip a day, but the way it's set up you aren't overdoing any muscle group so work through it even if it hurts. I found yoga was completely boring and I dreaded it but I love each of the other workouts and the yoga is important for staying flexible and hurting less so push through.

It's awesome that you're working out. I'm personally not a huge fan of P90X mostly because of differing training focii. I've done it a few times with a friend who's trying to lose weight and wants me there as motivation. We kept on laughing at how Tony sounds like this creepy acquaintance we both knew.

As for the work out itself, I found the large number of reps generally made it feel like one extended advanced cardio/endurance work out. I guess it depends on what muscle fibre types you're trying to improve. The first bit of the learning curve is going to be roughly the same though.

My advice is to go slow/light and do the easier modifications (Google them) if you NEED to. Get a large mirror or webcam in the area you're doing those exercises. I found that I strained some muscles the day after the first work out with my friend because I didn't have a mirror to check if my form was correct for exercises that were new to me. That said, I guess it's also appropriate to remind you here to maintain neutral spine and don't sag your pelvis.

As for your "cheating", I'm sure you'll get the hang of your body tolerance and figure out your failure soon so you don't have to be so conservative with your energy. Keep us updated!

Aw, you two are lovely. heart

I enjoy repetition. I have a yoga DVD that I've had for years and I use it quite often. I like knowing what's going to come next so I'm not fumbling around. Downside to that is you're always working the same muscles - so I like the P90X because it switches it up.

Right now I'm using a pilates band. My boyfriend has the band that came with the program. I have ten pound weights and we'll probably get another pair for my boyfriend.

I've been to a gym before and had a work out made for me with a trainer. I have very good form - I bounce right into it when working out. My boyfriend on the other hand...

---

Just finished day two: plyometrics. Oh boy are my hamstrings jiggly now. It's really fun and you sorta want to give up, but you do the entire hour. I had difficulties with this one because I have a hard time doing exercises that require specific hand-foot coordination. I want to do a mirror image to what I see (so if they say left and show left, I do right) so I run into troubles with ones like the baseball pitch. I do like how I didn't really do anything with my shoulders/arms so I wasn't working sore muscles.

Defiantly broke out in a sweat today too.

And my recovery drink is: proteins+ calcium.

that's a terrible diet! >o

Eating more than two eggs a day straight isn't good for you anyway. Why eat 8 egg whites when you can compliment 2 egg whites/ 1 whole egg it with some bread and a piece of ham? You get a more satisfying meal out of it rather than just egg whites which you're bound to eat it with something else that's fatty, and egg yolks are fatty but they're nutritious too! waste just to toss them.D:

A healthy diet is something you can enjoy eating, fills you, leaves your palette satisfied...and afford.

I always eat whole eggs. The white becomes the chick, and the yolk feeds that chick for at least 3 days-----sounds like a complete package of good stuff to me! Ham, on the other hand........

Congratulations, Pirhan! Can't tell you how many times I've looked at this program and balked at the price. Oh, my gosh, I should try craigslist in about 30 days! lol Keep up the good work!

@pirhan:
Congrats on your first day of Plyo! It's one of my favorites. I also love Kenpo. It's great that you have good form, that's most important. Quality over quantity as Tony says (over and over again.)

On eggs, the yolk has the cholesterol but it also has the vitamins. The whites are protein. Whole eggs are fine if you like them because even though they contain cholesterol, there is no evident to show that they produce cholesterol in the body.

The diet is set up that way because most people starting the program are burning more calories than they were before and need more food to nourish them, and the also need a lot of protein to repair all that muscle. It's really not a bad diet plan but you can of course modify it to suit your needs. Maybe toss in two whole eggs with yolks with five or six whites or something.

We're going to be looking at Craigslist as well as Value Village and the Sally Ann for extra weights. I did the shoulders and arms work out today and used some weights over my pilates band. I was really surprised that with the four pound weights I was just at peak. So, will be looking for eights and 15s since I have twos, fours and tens.

Man, I LOVE LOVE LOVE work outs like this. Afterwards I feel like beating my chest, grunting and eating beef jerky.

Oh dear, I need to read the warnings to ensure that doing this won't grow me chest hair. dramallama

@ Pirhan: I really don't think you've anything to worry about in the excess-body-hair department, unless you decide to load up on "prairie oysters"......"calf fries"..........you know.......

Lol, ew. xd

Did Yoga X.

HOLY COW.

X is right.

I totally wasn't expecting an hour and half of yoga. I had to sit out after about half an hour and then rejoined the last half hour. The soreness from the plyometrics is mostly gone.

I was really impressed with the yoga. I really do like Tony. I like how the exercises aren't "perfect" - he can't do them to the full extent. Others can't. You can see them shaking and sweating... and shaking. They did a good job on the video.

Good for you, keep it up! My husband really loves P90X
Personally I couldn't make it past 45 minutes with Yoga X.

Oh! How long has he been doing it?

The yoga was well worth going through. I walked funny after the plyometrics and only until today have I been able to walk up the stairs without clutching the rail.

The beginning of Yoga X is really tough. Being an extra half hour kinda psyched me. Balancing and stretching was good because I could zone out - as much as I could with my boyfriends grunting. (He is so inflexible.)

There's the ab ripper every other day. I don't bother with that one. I'm usually konked after the hour long work out. I'm not too worried as my stomach is flat already and I'm sure I'll get more definition with the general work out. Once I get stronger and less konked, I'm sure I'll be able to do it all.

First day of week two. LOVED X Stretch.

Kenpo X, not so much. I had flash backs to a capoeira class. Tony was nice enough not to make fun of me in broken English to where I left the class crying. dramallama I have severe problems coordinating the moves and it went by too fast and backwards plus pms lol. I got about fifteen minutes in and then called it quits. (Sans tears, ya!)

My arms feel stronger - especially the triceps. Seeing a bit of definition with my stomach. Can't do the Ab Ripper because it hurts my butt.

I had the same problem with Ab Ripper. At first I was getting bruises on my tailbone and lower back vertebrae and then I started using a folded up blanket. It's much cushier, as Tony says.

I was using a pillow and it was still painful. So, I'm thinking it might be something more serious (it's been like that for a while but I don't notice as I don't do pilates often).
