The days got shorter, and colder. Temperance raised his head to the sky seeing loominous clouds in the distance, he knew he should talk to Caelius about what this upcoming winter would bring in order to get the herd ready. The past month had proved to be festive and joyous for the herd, yet they were still trying to form themselves, and Temperance would need to find a mate soon. He watched as the sun rose higher into the sky and waited for the rest of the herd to wake.

Florian had awakened some time ago within the early hours of the morning before the sun had risen to the heavens. She had a hard time sleeping the previous night and found whatever position she lied in to be uncomfortable. So instead of lying on the warmth bed of moss and pretending to sleep she had decided it would be best just to wake up. She had spent most of the time away from the heart of the herd because she felt slightly shunned by the other members. She couldn’t really deliver anything and wasn’t much helping at all. But she tried to do her best and part to make everyone happy. Florian raised her head and peeked her head through the small thicket that she had created to den herself from the cold winter weather. The tight branches with many leaves provided an excellent shelter against the snow and most of the time the cold rain. It was her little sanctuary that she found within the herd’s territory.
The young mare breathed deeply as the cold air nipped at her nose and flushed her cheeks s as she crawled out from her shelter and to the open lands. Her ears pulled back and she looked around for a brief moment before realizing that it was still pretty early. Much too early for anyone to be awake within these hours, but she was awake so why not anyone else? Florian licked her lips and exhaled as she shook her head and then tossed back her mane before taking another step.
“Might as well see what everyone else is up to,” she muttered to herself. Florian began to walk towards where she figured everyone had spent the night. It was only a couple yards away or less to where her little shelter was. She hummed a little tune to herself to cheer up her gloomy mood.
Today was going to be a good day.

Temperance was happy to see Florian awake so early. Although she wasn't a full Ceryeni he admired that she had wanted to become apart of the herd. "Good morning Florian!" He called to her. Tempe admired her long tail as it sparkled against the white snow. He noticed some slight discoloration under her eyes. "It looks like you didn't sleep well last night Florian, is there anything I can do to make you more comfortable, perhaps would you join me for breakfast this morning? I am headed down to the river there are some nice red berries down there, they should warm you up and give you a better color" He smiled it would be nice to spend some more time with her and get to know more about her. "Hopefully, some of the others will join us, don't worry they will get to know you."

Florian had begun swishing her tail against the light snow that had fallen last night. She glanced down to see the odd design of lines her tail had made and laughed lightly. She wasn’t sure how or why this was amusing, but she needed to amp up her mood and think positive thoughts. The young mare’s ears pulled back and then perched forwards as she heard a familiar voice. She raised her head, looking around as she noticed the silhouette of a male Ceryni in the distance. As her tail dropped and she shifted on her hooves towards the male she had noticed it was Temperance. A sight of relief escaped from her vocals upon seeing him. She had him to thank mostly of letting her become apart of this little herd. The corners of her lips curved into a warming smile as she bowed her head, “good morning.”
The young mare stepped lightly as she walked to him a bit closer this time. “Breakfast it is,” she nodded her head agreed to follow him to the river where the juicy berries were. Her smile blossomed as she looked at the young buck. So far this day was starting out well and she hoped to spend more time with the other members as well. Florian didn’t want to feel much like an outcast. She wanted to be one with them. She wanted them to trust her, but also she wanted to trust them all.
“Lead the way. I’m afraid that my navigation throughout this place is still a bit off,” Florian said as she neared closer to the buck. “Oh. And yes. I didn’t sleep much at all. It’s beginning to get much colder at night. And when I cannot sleep my mind begins to wander on old memories,” she said. Florian sighed deeply as her gaze lowered from him for a brief moment. She sighed deeply and shook her head before tossing her mind back.
“What about you? You’re up quite early,” she laughed softly as her voice changed to become more cheery.

Temperance smiled. "I'm always up early Floriann, I like to stretch my legs out early before the day starts." He picked up his pace a bit as he raced her down to the stream. The snow moved around him like a wave on the beach as his hooves sliced through it. He made it down to the stream and breathed in the cool air. "It's so refreshing down here!" He took a long drink and watched as the sunlight began to reflect through the ice on the tree branches creating prisms of rainbows around them. "Look," he nodded toward the rainbows around their feet. "Getting up early has it's benefits you never know what beautiful things you will see to start your day with! The berries are just over here, you should have some, Kala says they have healing properties. I hope they can help you with your bad memories, I am glad you are here with us Florian." Tempe didn't want to bring up past issues unless she wanted someone to confide with. "If you ever need someone to talk to I will listen", he said to her as he led her to breakfast.

Florian almost lost her balance and fell down a couple times as she raced the young stallion towards the peaceful stream. Her legs were not all that used to getting up early, but as she began to move around some more they became more willing. The corners of her lips curved into a blossoming smile as she could feel the crisp cool air move through her mane and tail. It was exciting and riveting! She tossed her head back and laughed softly before nearing towards the stream. She stepped towards the edge of the stream and took a drink. At first, the water was so cold that Florian hadn’t expected it to be that cold. She nickered, raising her head as she stepped back for a brief moment before taking a longer drink. The water was quite refreshing and she felt as though her body was already recharging and gearing up for the day.
Her eyes closed as she gulped up the water as she enjoyed this morning drink. Ears swiveled and her tail swished in the snow as she heard Temperance’s voice. Raising her head, Florian raised her head and licked her lips as she looked at him. She followed his gave to their hooves to see the sunlight reflecting small rainbows imprinted in the snow. She’d never really noticed the rainbows before. Sure she’d seen the snow sparkle in the sunlight…but rainbows? She smiled and laughed softly. They were quite beautiful.
“It’s not that my memories are bad,” she finally spoke as she followed Temperance towards the berries. “It’s just that I’ve been looking back on who I’ve met. Those who have influenced me today,” she said. She paused as she sighed deeply before continuing. “My family mostly. I miss them,” she said fairly quiet. “It’s been so long since I’ve seen them,” she said.
“But I’m needed here which I understand. Perhaps at the start of spring after the winter I could visit my family? I won’t be gone long. I promise,” she asked. Florian knew that she could come and go as pleased. But it somehow didn’t feel right. She truly wanted to be a member of this herd. She wanted to please everyone…
She breathed deeply again and shook her head. “But we can worry about that later. For now we should enjoy this morning. It is quite beautiful,” she smiled. “I’ll have to get early more often,” she said as she trotted up to his pace and walked beside him. Florian looked to Temperance with a smile. “Thank you,” she spoke softly before gazing around them to take a gander at nature’s beauty.

Temperance drank from the stream, a long drink, the water from this stream the only one in the herds territory was very fresh. He lifted his head and listened to Florain. She had been through so much and yet she only said that she had missed her family. He felt her pain and her love for those that she had left. "He bowed his head, of course you can visit your family Florain whenever you like, you do not need permission to visit those you care about." Temperence didn't know what it was like to have a family. He didn't know his own, that is why he felt so strongly passioniate about the herd. They were his family and the ones he wanted to care for and protect. "I will travel with you as far as a I can, I want to make sure you are safe and I will send Restraint my hawk to look out for you on your return." He smiled at her. "This way over to the berries even though it is the cold moon month and a time of fasting, I think you should eat it will help with your restlessness, these berries have healing properties, and they are delicious!" He walked up stream to a small clearing lined with the bushes of the red berries.

Jubilee chuckled as she popped the juicy red berries into her mouth. She couldn't help but eat more than one...or two... The young mare was so distracted with her snack that she had missed Temperance's and Florian's conversation. Though she did manage to catch the last bit about said berries she was jovially munching on. She giggled from behind one of the lush bushes, "I second that! These are delicious!"

Florian smiled, nodding her head as she looked at Temperance. She was overjoyed that he didn’t mind her returning to her homelands to her family and she was even more excited to be seeing her siblings and parents again! Her tail flicked in happiness as she followed the young buck towards the berries. “Thank you so much,” she said excitedly but in a soft tone. “I do appreciate, Temperance. You have no idea what this means to mean. I’m sure after I see my family that I’ll be able to sleep more easily,” she added with a cheery-bright smile. She blinked away from the buck as she looked ahead to the little clearing that was lined with berry bushes. The bright red berries looked plump, juicy, and ready for picking. The young female smacked her lips together and licked the roof of her mouth as she took a step forwards, but quickly jumped back a bit as she heard a voice coming from within the bush.
Her eyebrows furrowed as she shifted herself behind Temperance for a brief moment with her head peeking out from around behind him. She blinked, ears pulled back as she looked at the bushes. “Did you hear that?” she whispered, making a face. “I think the bushes talked,” she muttered quietly as she didn’t want to sound like an idiot.
Florian’s nostrils flared as she stepped forwards out from around Temperance’s side. She had her neck stretched out towards the area where she heard the voice. Her eyes squinted only quickly as she saw a doe eating the berries on the other side. Florian wasn’t sure what her name was, but she had seen the doe here and there. Florian snorted, flicked her tail, and laughed softly as she walked over on the opposite side and began to eat the delicious berries.
Her cheeks blushed. The berries were very good! Pure delight and she couldn’t get enough! The tasty juices filled her mouth and began to stain around her lips as she goobled them up. “They are good!” she said with a full mouth. Florian pulled her head back, quickly chewing the berries that were in her mouth and then swallowing them. She then tried to clean the juices that had dripped out from the corners of her lips.

Temperance nodded, "I am happy that you are excited to see your family, it is important to stay in contact with them." He looked at the clearing it was peaceful and...noisy. He looked around and saw Jubilee munching away on the fresh berries. Amazed that she could still talk with all that in her mouth but he was begining to sense that talking was one of her specialties. It made her a good Alpha female, not afraid to say what needs to be said...even if it is too much. "Jubilee, Good morning!" He called to her and smiled her cute little spots always made him cheerful. Florian had obviously been hungry once she found out that the bushes weren't talking she began to help herself. Temperance walked on the other side away from the does. He was particular about his berries, and only took a few as he honored the cold moon month, as a time of fasting. The rest he left to grow riper and juicier in the next months. He walked over to the does. "I don't mean to inturrupt your breakfast, but Florian I am not sure you have properly been introduced to Jubilee. She is our alpha female; and ladies please remeber the great respect Ceryeni hold toward the balance, and perseverance of all of the forests creatures...leave some berries for the others," he laughed and tilted his antlers up towards the branches dropping a fresh dusting of snow on the doe and mare.

Florian sneezed as the snow drifted at the end of her snout and she had accidentally inhaled some snowflakes through her nose. She laughed softly and nodded her head as she glanced to Temperance. “I apologize for taking so many,” she said softly. “They are delicious. And you’re right,” she paused and looked to the plump, juicy berries. “Others should enjoy their taste,” she said. Florian breathed deeply as she smacked her lips together and began to clean up the mess that was still on her face. She savored the taste of the berries while she cleaned the corners of her lips because of the juices that stained her mouth. “That was a delicious breakfast. Quite filling too,” she said. Florian could feel as though one piece of the missing puzzle that dwelled inside her had been placed. She felt…happy as though life had been placed into her. She felt almost complete and whole. She pulled her head back and breathed in deeply. Florian felt like herself.
Her eyes then shifted to Jubilee. “Nice to meet you,” she said softly though she had seen the doe countless times before. Florian’s smile brightened as well as her face. She then walked to the edge of the stream and took a long drink. Her tail swaying behind her as she drank from the refreshing stream. As she raised her head only a little bit from the surface, her eyes looked down at her reflection. The smile faded from her lips only briefly as she looked at herself. Thoughts and memories quickly flushed into her mind, but she shook them away. She would worry about them later. For now she wanted to enjoy this morning with the herd.

The mouthful of berries quickly disappeared in a gulp. "Good morning!" Jubilee stood and walked out from behind her bush, more in plain sight. She lowered her head in a small bow as she was introduced to the other doe. "Nice to meet you too," she replied with more of a smirk than a smile. Mostly because she knew who Florian was and thought the idea of a formal meeting a bit silly at this point in time. But recently she had determined it was just Temperance's way - his way of keeping peace. She admired their Alpha for that.
Jube glanced back at her own bush, noticing it a bit barer than it should have been. "Well I'm full. I think I'll be passing on lunch then." It was a little embarrassing that she had over indulged herself especially in such a cold month.
Oh! Temperance," Her ears pricking up as she remembered the topic she wanted to ask their Alpha about. She trotted closer to him. "That reminds me...What are your plans for this winter, for the herd?"

Temperance turned to Jubilee, she was has always gotten straight to buisness. When the last quarter moon comes, I will head off toward the village to get supplies for the next 2 months before the ground thaws. Winnona will probably come with me for she also needs more human supplies, and anyone else is welcome to come. He turned to Florian. Florian if you wanted to join on our venture, to visit your family? He looked up to the sky. It was past dawn yet the other members of the herd he had not seen yet. He hoped that Bradford would wake up soon, he would need to talk to him about keeping the herd safe while he traveled to the human village. A deep sigh came out, he felt there was much to be done. We should also make sure the shelters and teepees are secure, the winds often pick up during these months and we also need to find a cave or underground shelter in case of blizzards and other storms.

Florian was drinking from the stream. She closed her eyes and pulled her ears down a bit as she tried to look as though she were busy taking a morning drink than listening to Jubilee and Temperance’s conversation. But truth be told she was faintly eavesdropping on their conversation. She knew it was wrong but Florian couldn’t help it because she was such a curious being. Her eyes blinked open and her ears perched forwards as she raised her head and licked her lips. Turning her head to the side and glancing at Temperance as he called her name. She cleared her throat as she shifted her body so that she faced the young doe and buck. “I can try to help,” she said quietly. Florian wanted to help with whatever tasks she could do but she wasn’t sure what sort of help she could lend.
“I won’t be visiting my family’s herd until spring. For now I’ll be staying here. What must I do?” Florian asked with a smile as she looked at Temperance.

Temperance turned towards Florain. His eyes perked up. His eyes glistened, she had said she wanted to help. For a vagabond Florain was turning into an active member of the herd. He was very impressed. Of course Florian you are more than welcome you are under no obligation I'm sorry that I thought you were looking to see your family sooner. When I go to the village I will need help carring back supplies and navigation. I'm sure you are familiar with this considering your own travels which led you here to us. He smiled at her. Well how about we all go run in the field maybe the others will join us, and if not we can have some fun playing in the snow!
