User ImageA small black cub shivered as she scaled the side of a steep mountain. Her mother, Coeur, known by all those who had the misfortune of encountering her as rather… insane. Not that Chayah would ever say that! No, she was the quiet, ideal cub. She kept her mouth shut and her head down around her mother. Her sister, Pur, was always trying to garner her mother's love and affection and attention, and her brother was somewhat of a trouble maker. The two other siblings sometimes spoke of escaping their mother's control, but Chayah was far too scared… And hopeless. She thought it impossible! It'd never happen. The three of them would forever be under Coeur's wrath and be trapped till she died. Or until her children did. But Coeur was gone… Somewhere… at the moment, and Chayah had gone against every fiber of her being and every past thought to slip away and seek out a lion she had once met.

It was a god that she once encountered when she was with her mother. She knew by her mother's grumblings, but more importantly, by his huge size, his wings, and the fact that when he stepped on her, she had been coated in soot and silt! There was no explanation for that. She was seeking him out today in order to find out if he could help her and her siblings escape from her mother. Of course, he hadn't seemed all that mighty or fierce when she saw him the first time… But she had been a cub back then. Maybe she'd been wrong! She was hopeful as she made her way towards a cave on the steep side of a mountain. She'd happened across a waterbuck that reminded her of that god, and he told her where she could find him. And that his name was "Fleance". He was the God of Ashes. The waterbuck… Yoshitaru, was it? Really talked him up. Her hopes rose, even as the temperature plummeted. Though it was balmy and warm at the base of the mountain on the plains, the higher she got, the colder it got. There was also something else, white and wet and cold on the ground. Snow? She thought that was what it was called. She didn't pause to examine it, because she knew it would just make her colder. The black juvenile cub stuck out like a sore thumb against the white back ground, until she found the entrance of the cave.

With a sigh of relief and a puff of air from her mouth, she smiled, and stood at the mouth.

User Image"Daddy, why're we here?" Little Kimo stretched against her father in the pit of a cave, the place plenty secluded and though outside it was nearly freezing, inside it was warmed by the earth's core. The little juvenile and her brothers were additionally warmed by their big father. Kimo was the only one awake at the moment, and she was bored! She always bothered her dad first, brothers next. Well, really it was Yoshitaru, Fleance, then her brothers, if they were asleep. She loved her father's waterbuck, and she loved bothering him. He was so fun because he acted like he hated all of the pestering and belligerent cubs, but Kimo could tell by the lack of any sort of fight, that he didn't mind his master's cubs at all. He'd let them know if they went too far, or bit too hard, but the play would quickly resume.

But Yoshitaru was on another one of his breaks, and Kimo was going to the next entertainment on her list, her father. Her dark eyes blinked eerily at her father while she waited for his answer. She sighed deeply and rolled over and about.

Fleance tilted his head. "Why are we here?" He stared at his little cub, having just been woken up by Kimo poking him in the side. He shrugged and patted her on the head. "Go back to sleep, honey." That was not what she wanted to hear. More pokes in the side and he opened his eyes again. A heavy sigh and another shrug, he looked up at the cave's ceiling to try and think of an answer, hoping one would come to him. Even as a god, he wasn't the all-knowing authority on purpose. If he were Mkodi, he'd be able to tell her, but at the moment, he just couldn't think of anything.

Of course, the reason he had wanted to bring Kimo and her siblings into the world was to use their gifts as seers to find his brother, and to remain hidden from him, but so far, none of the cubs had powers that had manifested yet. He'd have to take them to the swamp to see Ninon and have her try and teach them how to use their skills. Or he could visit her to find out if she had Seen anything about him or the cubs in her dreams recently. Of course, she could have been too preoccupied with her own litters to know. She had had a litter by another, strange male before his litter was born, and the god had always been secretly jealous. But her cubs had grown into adolescence and they had gone on their name quests, one she said would not return, and a little while ago, he had made a return visit to the swamps to find that he was a father again, and her, once more a mother. He was thrilled and happy. Those cubs had been born more out of love than necessity or need or want, but when Kimo asked Fleance, he felt guilty, still. She was by far his favorite, as his only daughter of eight children, but the truth was that he intended to use her and her seven brothers for his own selfish purposes.

"Kimo, I don't really know why we're here. No one really does. Mkodi put us here for whatever reason she wanted to. She knew what she was doing when she created every thing. If I ever meet her, I can ask her for you." He smiled and patted his cub on her head and rolled over to go back to sleep, hopeful that she was satisfied with his answer.

"…What?" Kimo scrunched up her face. What was her dad talking about?

"I meant what are we doing in this cave, silly!" She wiggled under one of his wings and had a goofy smile. "How come we're here, Dad?"

Fleance rolled over to stare at his daughter.
"Oh…"

Still mildly surprised, he shrugged. "We needed a place to stay, is all. A safe place, and this is a pretty good one. Now go to sleep, dear. It's bed time, you shouldn't be awake still." Now the god crossed his forelegs and rested his head upon them and closed his eyes which were hidden behind his long forelock of a mane.

Kimo wasn't entirely sure she was satisfied with this answer. She figured it was good enough, but it was boooooooring. She couldn't tell what time of day it was deep in this cave, and neither could her father! That meant Kimo would tell time her own way. And Kimo time was always always ADVENTURE TIME! She waited for her father to fall asleep and made sure neither brother had woken up, and she slunk out towards the mouth of the cave, following the sound of whistling winds and an increasing feeling of cold.

She was nearly at the entrance when she saw a form come into view, and she adhered to the wall to remain unseen. It looked like… A cub? HOW FUN!

Little Kimo scampered out the cave and tackled the little one most happily and with a giant smile.

Chayah was thrown onto her back by another female lioness, which at first surprised and scared her, but upon realizing what had happened, she looked, perhaps, hopeful. This cub didn't look normal. Her colors were ashy as was her fur. It wasn't just snow that stuck to this cub. And her eyes were strange, unnatural, immortal? So she was close!

. . .

The god looked down on two young girls with a rather strange look on his face. It wasn't disgust... It just looked like it. His daughter was bouncing and bumbling about eversohappily and sometimes into the little black cub that stood next to her. Kimo was talking a mile a minute, and her father just couldn't keep up with it. He sighed.

"Slow down."

...It's not very effective! She kept talking and talking until he put his big paw on her head lightly to stop the bouncing, and she looked up at him with her big, black eyes.

"Sorrryyyyyy"

"It's okay."
Fleance knew this cub. He'd stepped on her one time in a confrontation with her cranky, white mother. He got to the cub's level and looked her over.

"Is there something we can help you with?"

Chayah shivered, not exclusively from the cold now.
"I, uh. I, uhm..." Her eyes were wide at how big the god was. "You met my mom once. You know she's... crazy... Can you help me? And my brother and my sister? Escape..." She gulped hard and looked at the floor of the cave. She looked so pathetic as though she expected to get hit for what she'd just said.

"YEAH! YOU SHOULD TOTALLY STAY HERE AND BE MY SISTER N STUFF." Kimo bounced around happily and pawed at her father. "CAN WE KEEP HER, CANWECANWECANWE!?"

Fleance placed a paw on his daughter's head. She was a little too excited. "Kimo, we can't just do that. She's not ours to keep." He'd noticed the cub brightened up with Kimo's outburst and then her eyes fell again. He patted the one not his daughter now and pursed his mouth.

"I wish I could help you. Really, I do. But you're not my cub to help."

"But you're a god!"

Fleance flinched.

"Here, take one of my feathers and keep it with you always. If you ever really need me, I'll know, and I'll help you. I'm sorry, but that's the best I can offer." He plucked one of his feathers (one of the ones that wasn't an ashy emission) and gave it to the cub. It was coated with dust, but that was no real surprise.

Chayah looked up at him with big eyes and took the feather. She wasn't sure how she felt. It was a better situation than what she'd come in with, but if her mother found out where she'd been, she'd have plenty of regrets. Solemnly, she bowed her head. "Thank you, oh God of Ashes." She nodded a thank you to Kimo as well and left, headed back to her home and her mother's arms.
