The sun was setting over the edge of the woods, and Akaaru was glad for that. It had been a long day, even if it was mostly spent wandering the woods on his own. He hadn't found himself much to eat, but his thoughts were too filled with what else he hadn't been able to find to note the churning pain of his empty stomach.
He nosed along the edge of a well-worn pathway quietly, his eyes closed as he made his way into a clearing. If nothing else, he could at least get a drink before taking to the air. With the sun going down, it was sure to grow cold again soon.

The momentum of her fast paced flying in the setting sun brought out the colors on her legs. It was almost as if real fire was adorning her ankles. Rae had been bemoaning the lack of good flying conditions as of late and couldn't be happier that the evening had made it better. Being how she is, she'd of course taken off without any preparation for her flight or how long it would be.
After having flown till the sun was just a sliver above the horizon, the female found herself very parched. Quickly she scanned the ground below her and found a clearing with a small body of water. 'Perfect,' the mare thought to herself, 'I can have a quick drink and then be back on my way in no time at all.' A happy little neigh escaped her as she circled in for a landing. In the process of doing so she completely overlooked the stallion as he too entered the clearing.

The sound of wings overhead made Akaaru pause, his ears perking as his wings folded close against himself. He had hoped that if he kept stilled, he'd blend some into the shadows.
But when the mare that circled let out her sound of delight, the stallion all but winced. Sky blue eyes followed the fire-hooved stranger's decent before the dark stallion heaved a silent sigh. He hoped that she would take no notice of him, and he may get his drink and be on his way. But he knew better than that.
He could tell that she was filled with joy, and not even all the silence in the world would let him slip away as he'd gotten so good at doing.

As her hooves met the ground, the female beat her wings almost backward to soften her landing. Once fully grounded she trotted in place for a moment before casually folding her wings in as she walked toward the water. It took Rae until she'd quenched her thirst for her to notice the dark stallion that currently shared the clearing with her. Much to her delight, and perhaps his dismay, she noticed his wings first. This made her already bright eyes shine brighter.
Rae hoped across the water while calling out a joy-filled greeting to him. It was lucky that she'd landed on the opposite side to the one he was on. Knowing her lucky, even with just the hop across, she might have pummeled into the male.

So she had seen him.
Akaaru watched as the mare came closer with such enthusiasm and tried hard to keep in his place. Her greeting after him was returned with simply a nod as his ear flicked - He knew he was going to have to socialize eventually, but it was going to take some work. Company was not his strong suit.
"Hello there," he started, a swish of his tail as he kept his eyes after her. "Enjoying the day?"

Rae stopped just in front of him beaming brightly. "How could I not? It is one of the perfects days I've ever seen!" Her tail swished to the side in a happy twitch. "Surely you must think so too with how the wind just seems to caress your wings!" A flush crushed her face. She wasn't embarrassed, just the thought of the wind whistling through her own feathers again made her want to squeal in delight. Surely since he two was a wind like she, he'd feel the need to take to the sky. Maybe she would even get a new flight buddy!

Her obvious delight with not only the weather, but life, seemed intriguing to the stallion. It was true that there was a wonderful feeling not only flying with the wind, but against it as well. With this thought, he eased how he held his wings to himself, his feathers bristling slightly. "Yes...It is a very nice day for flight," he offered, his head tipping towards the sky. Her excitement was almost....Contagious? He found himself having to force a straight face as her joy lured a smile to creep up on him.

The mare's eyes brightened even more. This seemed almost too good to be true! A flight buddy at last! In her teepee she was the only flyer, so she did not have anyone to fly with at all. This was even the first time she had found another like herself. Rae's wings started to spread and her face flushed a deeper color.
"Would you... Would you like to fly with me?" Her question seemed so small compared to her earlier boisterous speech. After all, despite her joy she was still worried he would not end up flying with her.
