This is a private roleplay between Sakngea [audio fiend] and Yue Lao [face your demons].

Setting:
After their hard-hitting brawl, the two hotheads meet up. Will things go well, or are hurt feelings(and faces) going to ruin this early friendship?

And what's with Yue and that monkey?

The crowd around the fighting ring only seemed to grow as Sakn leaned against a cool wall near by. Yue was still in the midst, being cheered on and possibly being offered to fight again. The redhead felt a ting of jealousy dance across him, but shrugged it off. The fight had been good, and he hadn't ended it without getting in a few hits of his own any way! Yue was a strong girl, and Sakn had to respect her for that.

Hopefully, she wouldn't be too mad at him though. The redhead scratched the back of his head, sighing as he recapped. He had been pretty stupid earlier, taunting Yue. Her temper had gone from controlled to volatile. He might have even been able to win if he had just kept his out shut!

So when he glimpsed the magenta hair between people walking through the alleyway, the redhead struggled back to his feet(thankfully the spins had left him by now; only his muscles ached) and cupped his hands around his mouth. Sakngea wasn't quiet sure the girl was actually looking for him, for all he knew she was still mad over his earlier comments, "HEY, YUYU!" he used the friendly nickname, hoping Yue would respond, possibly even come over to where he was. Sakn waved his arm, just to help point out his position, and while he was definitely not happy about losing, he couldn't help the smile that curled on his face.

It had definitely been a good fight, and he had seen the cash Yue had won! They would be wealthy tonight, most definitely. Sakn thought back to the handsome wooden cestus he had seen earlier that night while walking to the ring. To buy a pair of those would be his dream.

Of course, Yue might not give him any of the winnings.

The redhead gulped, hopefully he hadn't pissed her off that bad. He was hungry too, and there had to be some place offering food this late. Even just a few coins for a sticky bun would make Sakngea happy.

Around her, voices were reeling. She was exultant, triumphant, proud that a girl had won. She took all her congratulations, and the prize, with relish. However, her body ached. Sakn was not unskilled. He had definitely gotten a few sore hits in, and Yue would likely be bruised for a while to come. She wouldn’t mind training with him, in fact; just because she wanted to fight with a Meteor Hammer didn’t mean she should neglect her hand to hand combat, and Sakn seemed like the perfect candidate for such a purpose. As skilled as Jianyu was, his strength resided in his archery.

Yue Lao’s soreness and the heavy bag of coins in her hand reminded her of Sakn’s presence nearby. She sought him out, declining offers to fight with a grin, shooting down advances with a kind of calm amusement. Her mouth tasted like grit. Her anger had faded, and a heavy exhaustion, a desire to just sit in the dirt, overwhelmed her. She couldn’t spot Sakn, though she tried, and was about to leave in defeat, when she heard him call her name. Who else could it be? Only Sakn would call her that. Her face, which had, despite victory, fallen into a frown, raised in joy when she saw him.

“Sakn!” Yue called out, bounding over, despite her soreness. Yue was uncomfortably aware of the fact that without Sakn’s temper, she may just have faced a much harsher fight, one with quite even odds. “Come on, over here--!” Yue dragged Sakn by the arm, scarcely thinking of either of their injuries, behind a carpet vendor. She hid with him there behind a long rug draping down to the dirt, checked both sides to make sure no one was following them or watching, and with the precision of a merchant’s daughter she divided the treasure evenly. She scooped up her half and hid it inside some secret pocket of her clothing, but gave the rest back in the prize bag to Sakn.

“Don’t say anything bad about the ones I love again, okay?” she asked, sincere, but winking. It was framed like a joke, but… she clearly did not want the situation to repeat. “If someone insulted you, I’d have to kick their a** too, you know,” she added, sitting back with a stretch. “And your punches hurt.”

She didn’t apologize for any of the damage she did to him, and she didn’t really feel too bad; he had provoked her, they had arranged that fight, and that was the outcome. It could just have easily have ended in her downfall. Yue Lao felt very tired, but she heard something faint through the booths—Was that… the chittering of a monkey?

Her eyes lit up and she bounced to her feet, brushing her filthy pants off with equally dirty hands. She looked a bit like a street urchin, but her body bore the hallmarks of a fighter, even under all that dirt. “Sakn! Sakn, please please please come with me? I have something I need your help with!” She rocked back and forth on her feet. That golden monkey of her dreams… she needed it!

Sakn bit back a cry of pain as Yue yanked him along. Her punches had done their work, and the damage was evident if the throbbing and aching was any proof at all. The redhead would have felt like a girl if he had cried out though, so he forced every groan of pain down, and once they were behind the rug, he became absorbed in the glinting coins Yue split between them.

As he held the purse in his hands, Sakn felt a wave of relief wash over him. If Yue willingly handed him the winnings, then it must mean there were no hurt feeling or bad blood; this pleased the redhead, who would have been rather down to loose such an interesting friend because of one out-of-control fight.

She did lecture him though, and Sakn bit back the urge to tell her, again, what he thought of Jianyu, or make a face at the thought of him being a 'loved one', but the urge disappeared when she continued to address him. At least he knew he had some standing her heart as well, and the comment on his hits was a nice stroke to Sakn's ego.

There was a moment of silence then, relaxing and nice...until Sakngea started to hear a certain high pitched chittering, an angry screamin--

Yue had gone from tired to bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in seconds, and for a moment the young man looked thoroughly confused; what had gotten her so excited? He furrowed his brows, but it wasn't true irritation on his face, and after a moment, the redhead sighed and relented. "A'ight, A'ight. Le's go befur ya die of excitment, Yuyu."

He was smiling as he shooed her out from behind the rug, the two of them melding easily into the crowd of urchins and uppercrusters, and as they walked to where ever it was Yue was leading them, that damn chittering grew louder and louder and lou---

"Yuyu, don' tell me y'actually plan to buy un of these things," the redhead started, as they slowed down near the screaming monkeys. Sakn never liked animals, and couldn't understand how one would want a pet, let alone a loud, annoying monkey. Like that golden one with the ugly face, the one that wouldn't stop staring at him.

"Th'y're creepy lil' monsters," he paused, then added in a question, "An' why I gotta help you with dis?!"

He hated animals. Bai Fu was hard enough to handle.

Oblivious as ever, Yue didn't even think twice that Sakn might defy her request not to speak ill of her loved ones. She just took it for granted that after a fight like that, he wouldn't want to repeat the past. One way or another, he didn't protest, and she was happy to be with her friend. Perhaps it was a weakness, the way Yue would fight anyone anywhere if they threatened the ones she loved. Yue stretched and sucked in an angry breath as she jarred some sore muscle. A muffled grunt escaped her while she winced. A bath would be nice.

But the monkey called to her! That shining treasure of light and wonderment. Yue's eyes were uncharacteristically wide. Sakn ushered her out from behind the rug and began to accompany her there. She didn't drag him this time, but bounded off for him to follow, her hand gripping his once before letting go so he didn't get pulled along. The sweet sound of those monkeys was getting louder! Yue's excitement at having a furry ally overwhelmed her and she burst into excited laughter. It made her sound a little crazy.

They were standing in front of them, now. And there was her princess, the lovely orange one with thick, long fur. "Wha..?" Yue mumbled at Sakn, clearly not listening to his insults over the monkeys. She took a couple tentative steps towards the fluffy monkey, the one that looked perfect. Her face immediately snapped into a mask of disinterest. She called to the merchant in charge of the monkeys. "What kind of monkey is this?" Yue asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

The monkey, which had previously been passive, tilted its head and seemed to smile at her. Yue's eyes glinted with a returning smile. To anyone else, it would probably look like the monkey was baring its teeth. In the way that sometimes happens when someone is very distracted, Yue's brain caught up to the words Sakn had said. "They're not creepy! They are adorable, just like me," Yue said, pouting, her hands on her hips as she turned to Sakn. [mediumvioletred]"And you gotta help me with this because you're my new best friend!" Yue said, with a wink.

The merchant walked over and scratched at his exposed belly, an expanse of dark flesh under his stained shirt. Clearly the monkey business was not paying well. Either that, or all his income went to drink and other substances, which would not surprise her either. "'S a golden lion tamarin, or somethin'. Is what I heard, yeah." Yue was still turned to face Sakn, and she mouthed these words to him as if they were a prayer for a long and prosperous life: Golden lion tamarin.

Sakn found it funny, in a strange and curious way, how Yue could go from nearly leaping for joy to being completely placid when dealing with business men. Her face became stoic, and he barely caught the glint of excitement in her eye when that ugly golden thing smiled at her. He did not like monkeys, not one bit.

And when Yue responded to his comment, the redhead laughed and clasped a hand on her shoulder, giving it a friendly squeeze, "You? Cute? Yue, y'ur more frightenin' then cute, iffin y'ask me," the words were friendly and jovial, spiced with a bit of brattiness to prove that he wasn't going soft for a girl. And when she called him her friend, Sakn's face light up, a crooked fishermans smile crossing his face. It was good to hear that, to know that they were going to be friends. Sakn had few friends, and not because he didn't want them. Just because it was hard to make friends when most people his age lived in the city.

The merchant was disgusting, and Sakn almost wished he would have stayed sitting instead of coming close. He smelled like old clothing, sweat and that sweet-dirty smell that came from working with animals. The intenseness of it caused the young man's nose to wrinkle in disgust, but either the merchant didn't notice, or he was so used to people making that face that he just didn't care. Instead he grunted out some pointless information (pointless to Sakn at least, because a golden lion tamersomething was just another smelly monkey to him) and scratched his dirty stomach.

When Yue turned and excitedly mouthed those words to him, Sakn raised a brow, and gave her his best-trying-to-be-super-excited smile before glancing back at the golden beast she was fawning over. It smiled at him then, but Sakn had a feeling that smile was more of a grimace then a friendly grin.

He really didn't like that monkey, but Sakn could see the way Yue was falling head over heels for it, so he resigned his natural distaste for animals and stepped into help with the deal making. Merchants here were dirty; liars and cheats. Two people working him down would be better then a single person any day.

"I's pro'lly gunna be expensive," Sakn stated, as a warning to Yue, and also as a way to get the dirty stallclerk ready to deal. Merchants hate hearing people complain, because complaining people often means they won't be buying anything, "I'm sure we c'ud finda better deal, yeah?" he knew Yue wanted this monkey, so even if he disliked it, he would do he best to help her.

He glanced at the merchant then, and was happy to see the gears turning in the bulbous head of his, "I got the bes' prices on the market, boy," the man stated, and Sakn raised a brow.

"Hear that, Yue. 'E says 'e's got the bes' prices on d'market. Whuddya say?"
