There's something foreboding about this journal, like it's the beginning of an end. It seems innocuous enough, pretty and tapered, almost like a sheath of scrolls thrust neatly into the horn of some animal. But it seems like it's something to write in only in time of great crisis, like it was made for a very specific purpose, for the times when 'come hell or high water' isn't just an expression and chaos seems closer than comfortable. Still, though, it's not totally bad. In a way, it's almost therapeutic, like it was meant to give you a second chance, a warning to try to give you time to sort out the problems you read in it.
But that's crazy, isn't it? It's a book, not an early alert system.

 1.6.11
When you come upon the scene, it is a weak and dying Herald that you find, unable even to stand. A few scattered feathers on the ground are the only remnants of the wings it once possessed. It has come to this place to die...or be saved? That, of course, is up to you.
You are alone when you find the angel. The Heralds have long gone unsaved, and though it appears to you, it does not hold much hope of living on. Near to where the two of you meet rests a grey stone slab that the angel seems desperate to reach. With your help, the Herald climbs upon it, needing something from you to save its life. What will you choose to give it? And what significance does that item hold for you? Is it a family heirloom? Something you happened to have on hand? Something you'd purchased earlier that day? A lucky charm?
You may have noticed that many details have been left off. This is because we want you to have plenty of freedom to develop the scene yourself. Consider time of day, weather, season, etc. when you post.

Herald Info____________________
Name: Aram Lucas Kantor
Goes by: Aram
Personality: (Projected) Aram is an introverted, daydream-prone type of boy. Inheriting his father's calm nature and his mother's kindness, he's a truly sweet kid. If he were only a bit more attentive to other people's feelings, one could probably say he's the perfect friend - and maybe even the perfect student. As it is, he zones out into his own world a bit too often, preferring to imagine possibilities over concentrating on his schoolwork. His wistful hoping will quickly evolve into an adventurous spirit once he hears stories from his aunts about their many escapades.
These same stories will probably spark a romantic flair in the young boy. However, he'll likely be too shy to approach girls for quite some time, opting instead to perfect the art of writing romantic poems. To do this, he'll have to read a lot of books, but he's more likely to be found outside exploring in the woods than curled up with a book. Once someone has wormed their way into his heart, he's fiercely loyal and would fight to defend them - even if it meant making new enemies in the process.
However, all that seems to be good about Aram can also be considered negative. He sometimes daydreams at the worst possible moments, often missing important information in school and giving others the impression he doesn't care enough to give them his attention. Like his father, he has a very slow temper, but he unfortunately doesn't have the shifter's forgiving nature. Once you've done something to truly anger him or lose his trust, you'd be hard pressed to earn his trust back. To say he holds a grudge is an understatement, especially if you've wronged him or one of his loved ones. If forced to interact with one of these people he doesn't care for, he would treat them with a cold formality that borderlines on hateful.
Because of his introverted personality, Aram prefers to work through things on his own. He very rarely asks for advice or help - not because he's prideful, but because he's naturally independent. This sometimes leads him into situations where he ends up biting off more than he can chew, and then he has to ask for help in tying up the loose ends. His tendency to constantly dream up new possibilities makes him curious about any and everything. He's likely to cause his guardians a lot of worry when he's little both by wandering off and constantly grabbing at foreign objects.

Guardian Info__________________
Name: Jakeb Elvin Kantor
Goes by: Jakeb or Jake
Age: 119; physically 22
Race: Shapeshifter
Status: Married
Career: Pediatrician
Personality: Exactly 6 feet tall and significantly more broad-shouldered than his older brother. Jake has naturally snowy white hair that he keeps at a respectable length (that is - just above his collar). His eyes are a piercing, icy blue - almost the same shade as the sky on a perfectly cloudless day. The shade of his skin is a very light tan, just enough to give him a healthy look. His hands are lightly calloused and muscled, his fingers long and nimble. He often sports some light gray scruff on his days off.
Jake is the type of person that someone would call an 'old soul'. He has wisdom and insight uncharacteristic of even those his age. However, he's still somewhat socially awkward, especially with those older than himself. (This may be because of the reaction most people have to his clairvoyance.) He spent much of his childhood overseas and returned later to attend medical school, so he retains many foreign mannerisms - including a slight tendency to resist physical affection. Slow to laugh but quick to flash a warm smile, Jake is an incredibly warm, friendly, and caring person. He adores children of all ages and they usually tend to like him in return. Sometimes the parents don't like him as much, but he doesn't let it bother him. Sadly, Jake doesn't seem to have much of a sense of humor, though he often chuckles at his siblings' antics. He takes everything one step at a time, and approaches things so slowly that it's a wonder his fiancé didn't get frustrated and leave him before he finally proposed.
Most shifters don't possess abilities other than control over their appearance, but Jakeb it seems is one of those lucky ones - he's clairvoyant. Not in a "let me stare into your eyes and read your life's story" type of way, and his powers aren't even all that strong (mostly because he prefers to not use them). Most of the information he receives is in short bursts, either in dreams or 'visions', which often happens when someone he cares about is in danger. Many times, when meeting a stranger, he will witness important events of their life from a third person point of view. At his weakest, he can discern a person's name and basic personality either through verbal interaction or with a touch. All the information he reads is either past or present; he never glimpses the future.

Growth Fallen Messenger - Messenger Reborn --- Journal Set-up Complete :: because different people have different ideas as to what constitutes a journal, the way this will be determined is to have the owner PM a message to the Herald mule stating that they have finished setting up their journal. Basics should be done, having some reserved posts is okay. --- 2 Standard Prompts :: There are two (2) standard prompts for this stage.
Messenger Reborn - Child --- 2 Standard Prompts :: There are two (2) standard prompts for this stage --- 5 RP Playdates :: Defined below
Child - Teen --- 2 Standard Prompts :: There are two (2) standard prompts for this stage --- 10 RP Playdates :: Defined below
Teen - Adult --- 2 Prompts :: There is one (1) standard prompt, and one (1) unique prompt --- 15 RP Playdates :: Defined below
Adult/Teen - Breed --- 2 Prompts :: There is one (1) standard prompt, and one (1) unique prompt in order to breed --- RP Playdates :: At discretion of the staff and artists... we will contact the owners
Adult - Mystery Stage? --- 2 Prompts :: same as breeding requirements --- 100 RP Playdates :: Because no one has reached this stage, or even come close.... this is still undecided. But, as this is a rare stage, expect it to be pretty exclusive*RP Playdate: There are three options to fulfill one RP playdate. They are as follows: 1. RPing with someone else. It can be in groups, it can be with one person. As long as you RP at least 6 posts, it counts. It is per thread per time IC. For example, if you are RPing with someone else in the "Our Town" thread, and it last seven days IRL, but IC it is one day, it counts as one RP no matter how many times you post. 2. Prompt Think-Tank. There is a thread in the guild that has a whole bunch of prompts for you to complete in your Herald's journal if you so choose. Some of them will be age-specific, and some will be open for all ages. But, unless the prompt can apply to many things (i.e. holidays), you can only use a prompt ONCE. 3. Participate in an event. The event itself will define what is required in order to get credit.

Entry
Because Aram was won in an event, the writer has decided to put said winning entry in the journal for the sake of future reference (and a possible ego boost).
Prompt Tell us about your Herald's first flight. Are they alone, or with someone? Do they fly out of necessity, or are they practicing and trying to fly? Is there some interesting story behind it?
The wind was quite strong. It threw the creaky shutters against the sides of the old, peeling red barn and tousled the herald's wavy hair as he stepped closer to the edge. Aram's initial glance towards the ground made his throat constrict, his hand trembling in anticipation. If only his parents could see him now. In his mind's eye, he could see his mother panicking, his father standing by with a frown on his face while he calmly ordered the boy to come down. Though that very same father had told him that he would eventually be able to fly. It was only a matter of time.
Aram wasn't content with waiting. For the past few years he had waited for his powers to develop, his wings to grow, his parent's relatives to finally accept him; he was through with waiting. His wings fluttered in anticipation behind him and he moved so that the tips of his bare feet reached over the very end of the roof. Instead of avoiding looking at the ground, he instead concentrated on it - willing himself to make this work, to not fall and break something. If he came away from this with an injury, his mother would never want him to try flying again. At least not for a long time.
For a few weeks now, he'd been coming to the barn on windy days and practicing coasting from one end of the roof to another. He figured that was a safe way to start, an approach his father would approve of - making sure he was strong enough to support his own weight. The boy wasn't naturally one to think hard about consequences, but his father was slowly changing this. One deep breath later and he was ready to try. Slowly, he backed away from the edge, spreading his wings to their full span.
A few hastened steps and a desperate leap of hope later, Aram found himself in midair. For one horrifying second he seemed to fall towards the ground but he pumped his wings hard enough that his muscles stung. Then he was rising - heading straight towards a tree. Maybe he hadn't planned this so well after all. The boy gasped and recoiled, throwing his arms out to brace for an impact. Instead of feeling bark scraping against his skin, he found his instincts taking over and he swerved, barely missing the big oak.
For the next two minutes he was too caught up in the exhilaration of being suspended so high in the air. He circled the barn and gazed around with a smile, observing the surrounding area from his new perspective, almost as high as the very tiptop of the silo. Then his heart clenched in anxiety as he heard a familiar voice from below. It called his name, though its tone didn't sound upset. Nonetheless, he landed as quickly and carefully as he could and looked up - to see his father.
A familiar mop of white hair was stark-still and his father gazed at him with wide, anxious eyes. "Dad! I'm sorry, I-" The apology died on his lips when he suddenly realized something; the shifter was smiling. "Dad?" he queried anxiously, a confused frown pulling at his features. Why did he look happy?
Jakeb stepped forward and pulled his son against him in a warm hug. Aram's dark eyes widened in shock and confusion, then he slowly returned the embrace. "I'm so proud of you." The statement was simple, not spoken in a soft emotional tone but one of simple, honest declaration.
That didn't stop it from bringing a wide grin to the boy's face. "You saw? Isn't it awesome?!"
A soft chuckle was his reply. "Yes. You've been practicing, haven't you?" At his son's nod, Jakeb hummed softly. He'd suspected that was why the boy had been sneaking away but he hadn't said anything, knowing flight was something he couldn't help Aram with. Jake was an attentive, caring father but he was not overbearing. His wife, however, would have been worrying herself sick had she known. "Let's not tell your mother about that." He gave his son a quick glance over to be sure he wasn't at all injured. They couldn't very well go home presenting his first flight as good news if he'd been hurt in the process.
"D'ya think mom will be happy?" Aram asked, his eyes crinkling with anxiety.
The question brought a rare string of laughter from his father. "She'll probably bake you a cake," he reassured the boy, putting an arm around his shoulders as they headed back to the house.
