Phoebe licked the last of the sugar from her fingers and threw the remains of her cookie wrapper in the trash. She really enjoyed coming to the mall, even if it was on errands for her mother - and bringing her tagalong little brother was fun too, considering the furry infant was quite preoccupied with "driving" one of the mall-provided stroller-carts. They had stopped for a snack in the food court, and while they were there, Phoebe told anyone and everyone who looked her way about her 'awesomely amazing little brother who is just so cute' and bragging about what a great big sister she was for getting to take care of him and go shopping... basically, anyone who stuck around long enough was subjected to the pink-haired spawn's bragging.
Unfortunately, Phoebe was now confused about why so many of the mall patrons were avoiding her. Shrugging, she cleaned peanut butter cookie crumbs off of her little brother's face and out of his hair - how did he manage that? before shrugging and smiling at Kupo. "Okay, little brother! We're gonna go to the next store now! You ready?" The little boy looked up at his sister, big dark eyes shining widely, and he grinned, turning the steering wheel of the cart.
"Vroom-vroom!" Phoebe took that for a yes and started to skip off through the mall's crowds, idly wondering if there could possibly be anyone around who would actually talk to her for a bit. Kupo was fun, but most of his conversational topics were limited to "p'nut b'tt'r" and "Go there!". If only Ily were here... the wrath-spawn may not have liked baby shopping, but she would at least be someone to talk to! Well, no use being sad! Maybe she'd meet someone to talk to in the baby store!

Lira was now significantly pregnant; the kind of pregnant that meant that every five or so minutes she was stopped by a woman - or the occasional gay man - and asked when she was due or what gender the baby was or got her belly rubbed and giggled at by children. It's not that she didn't like the attention; all of the people were very nice. It just was getting in the way of her shopping duties, which were going slowly as it is due to the extra weight she'd put on. So it was with a slightly strained smile that she waved off another well-wisher and made her way to the baby clothing store, where this whole pregnancy gig was a little less surprising.
However, on the way, she ran into a little altercation. Distracted with trying to rejuggle her bags into a more comfortable position, Lirona accidentally bumped into a small boy driving one of those adorable go-carts. She didn't get hurt, but she was certainly startled, jumping back with a bit of a squeak. Her first thought was for the young one, however, and she bent down awkwardly with a warm smile. "Oh, hello there little one. You aren't hurt, are you? We both should have been watching where we were going, huh?" She glanced around for the child's guardian, and spotted a pink-haired girl not far off. "So my little friend, are you here to shop too?"

Kupo blinked up at the bigger person with wide eyes, before beaming and throwing up his arms to be picked up, voicing his thoughts on the subject loudly and happily. "P'nut b'tt'r!" Phoebe giggled and stepped closer to her brother and the lady who had... one wing and a tentacle? Could she be related to big sister Ebony? Oh, now Phoebe had to find out!
"Hello!" she chirped excitedly, her tail wrapping around her legs. "That's my little brother, Kupo! We were going shopping in here, do you want to shop together?" J-Mama would probably have told Phoebe that she needed to be more cautious, but the pink-haired spawn could find absolutely nothing threatening about the pretty lady in front of her. She seemed much too sweet to be anything but nice, and besides, she was having a baby! And she wore pink! How could you wear pink and not be awesome?
It was that logic that made the preteen decide that she was going to make a new friend today.

Lirona was instantly charmed by the adorable baby (and to think, she was going to have one of her own soon!) and laughed at his comment. After glancing warily at the pink-haired girl for consent, she reached down slowly and picked him up, cradling him in her arms. "Ooh, yes, peanut butter indeed. Perhaps we could pick some of that up, too." She giggled and tickled the boy's noise affectionately. Little children had such a way of worming into her heart...
"And hello to you too," she replied happily to the pink-haired girl who came bounding up to her, obviously spawn. She chuckled at the girl's question and shifted Kupo from hip to hip. "Actually, I was just about to do the same thing. You may have noticed, but I have a bun in the oven," Lira said with a smile, patting her stomach gently, "and so I figured that I needed some clothes for him. Do you want to help me pick some out; I'm sure you have great baby fashion sense." She chuckled as she cuddled the small boy gently, Jake gently prodding the back of his head.

Kupo giggled and stuck two of his fingers in his mouth to suckle on them, squeaking when his nose got tickled and snuggling after it stopped. "P'nut b'tt'r! P'nut b'tt'r for Kupo-po!" He sing-songed, kicking his fuzzy feet a little with each word. Phoebe would have shushed him, but it seems like the older spawn knew what she was doing, so she held her tongue on that subject. Besides.... that offer....
"Really? You'd let me help?!? Oh, yes, yes please! I'd very much like to!" The pink-haired preteen said, bouncing on the balls of her feet as her sharp toenails carved pinprick holes into the floor. "Will you have your baby soon? Is it a boy or a girl? I know you said 'him' but I wanted to ask! And don't I just have the cutest little brother in the entire world? And Kupo's got the best big sister, too!" And now the pride-child was off and running - she would wind down eventually, perhaps, but for the moment there was no stopping her.
And the lady was holding Kupo, so she wouldn't run away any time soon! It was perfect!

Lira giggled again, quickly growing attacked to the adorable boy. She snuggled up against him, ruffling his hair affectionately. Oh, how she couldn't wait for a little boy to pamper and cuddle of her very own... Even though it was only a few months away, she felt, for the first time in her life, that she couldn't wait. "Okay, Kupo-po. After me and your big sister go clothes shopping, we'll get something all peanut buttery for you."
She laughed at the girl's exuberance and nodded. She opened her mouth, but was cut off by the storm of questions she was being badgered with. Patient to a fault, she simply waited for a moment to cut in, and so she did, gesturing for the girl to follow her into the store. "Yes, I'd be happy to let you help; that's why I asked. My baby is supposed to be born sometime in February; close to Valentine's Day, as I recall. And it's a baby boy, yes."
Lira laughed happily and huggled Kupo once more before handing him back off to his sister. "And yes, the both of you are adorable. Oh, my name is Lira, by the way. What is your's?"

Phoebe couldn't help but stare - the nice lady had actually listened to and answered all of her questions. That hardly EVER happened. The little pride spawn's mouth close with an audible click, and she blinked for a moment before smiling at the older spawn with a bright, true smile that somehow seemed more sincere than her usual smiles. "I'm Phoebe, and Kupo already told you his name... but it's just Kupo, not Kupo-po. He likes to add an extra 'po'," she said, her tail swaying behind her as she explained.
"Kupo-po! Kupo-po po!" the aforementioned infant chirped, kicking his pawed, fuzzy legs around and sticking the entirety of his left hand into his mouth to suck on it, his big dark eyes shining with delight at being part of the conversation.

The stare that Lirona received from from the girl made her giggle a little self-consciously, but she seemed happy enough, so she took it in stride. She returned the bright smile, Jake still stroking Kupo's silvery hair. "I see. Well, it's very nice to meet you, Phoebe and Kupo." She ruffled the boy's hair as she greeted him properly, Jake shifting to poke curiously at his cheek.
"Now, do you two want to get started helping me?" she asked, moving towards the baby clothes. "Not that I'm trying to rush you or anything - we can definitely talk more or look around if you want - but I know I should be home soon. Plus I just can't wait for your professional opinions," she said with a gently teasing smile. "I'm so new at all of this baby stuff, it's so confusing." A soft laugh bubbled from her throat. "And everyone always gives me so much advice..."
"So! What do you think about this?" Lira asked of her two companions as she selected a cute shirt with a simple stitching of a boat on it. "Does this look cute to you? Or, hm, maybe a little too simple and generic...?"

Phoebe would have replied with her opinion, but Kupo beat her to it with a sticky finger and an excited squeal of "BOAT!". clearly pleased with himself for recognizing the little decoration. This, in turn, made Phoebe laugh a little and ruffle her brother's hair.
"Well, Kupo likes it, and I think he's the best judge of baby things we have here!" the pride-spawn said, and her pride over her amazing, wonderful, super-special and THE BEST little brother ever just dripped from her voice. Tilting her head, however, she thought about it sincerely for a minute.
"I think the best thing to remember is that it needs to be comfortable - the baby won't care how he looks, at least while he's really tiny, so he just wants to be nice and warm... and not itchy, I know Kupo makes a fuss whenever he wears anything even a little itchy. So simple is probably a good thing, at least at first! Besides, the simpler the clothes, the cuter your baby will get to be because he'll be the focus!"
She could have gone on, showing off her knowledge. On and on and on. But.... most people tended to get bothered by that, AND Miss Lira needed to hurry so... time to try and keep her chatter in check for at least a little while.

Lirona burst out giggling at the adorable actions of Kupo, and was unable to resist ruffling his white hair once again. "That's right, cutie, it's a good boat, huh?" She beamed happily at Phoebe and nodded in agreement; after all, who knew baby things better than a baby? But she also listened carefully to Phoebe's advice, and was subsequently impressed by her knowledge. Her golden eyes widened and her wing fluttered excitedly.
"Wow... That's such a good point! I'd never even thought of that before. I'll definitely think about it from now on!" That being said, she began carefully feeling the fabric of the shirt, biting her glossed lip in deep concentration. "Hmm... Well, this is very simple, especially considering that my baby will probably be very colorful. But... I don't know, the inside feels just a little bit itchy... Oh, whatever, I'll just buy it." She tossed it onto Jake with a smile, shrugging at Phoebe with a grin. "I can always just return it, right? Okay, now you pick out something!"

Kupo giggled and clapped his hands."Boat! Boat! Boat, boat, boat!" He chanted over and over, clearly thrilled with himself and his high level of intelligence.
Phoebe shushed him and nodded. "Well, if you wash it first that should help some itchy problems," she said, smiling, then dove for a set of soft, fuzzy yellow footsie pajamas with a stylized giraffe. "You'd probably have to modify something like this this a little to fit right," she said, waving at Lirona's tenacles with a smile. "But these kinds of clothes would keep the baby nice and warm and all snuggly, especially while the baby's really little!"

Kupo's adorable antics kept on melting Lirona's soft heart, and she touched her fingers to her lips to restrain her smile slightly. Oh, she hoped that her baby would be so sweet and adorable... Of course it would be, she reasserted. It would be the sweetest baby in the world. She nodded a little distantly at Phoebe's advice, eyes switching back to the younger girl. "There's another good idea. I'll be sure to do that with all of the clothes." The more tired part of the girl despaired at the idea of doing so much laundry, but she quickly resolved herself. She was going to be a mother, after all, no longer a girl, rich and spoiled; she was going to have to get used to the idea of responsibility.
When Phoebe brought forth her choice, Lirona cooed happily. "Awww, Phoebe, that's adorable!" She plucked it happily from the other spawn's hand, running her fingers over the soft, comfortable material. "Good find! Oh, I'm going to want more of these!" The woman reached for more pajamas excitedly, selecting a green version with an elephant and a blue version with a yawning hippopotamus. As she placed them in her basket, she smiled sidelong at Phoebe. "You certainly know your way around this baby stuff. Do you watch your brother often?"

Phoebe was about to respond to her shopping companion's questions, when a 'poof' heralded the abrupt teleportation of her little brother. "Oh, no," she moaned as she heard the unmistakable sound of his giggles from somewhere nearby but out of sight.
"I watch him a lot but he always teleports on me can you help me find him please?" She asked, trying not to sound too desperate or frightened - the baby hadn't gone far, she knew that since she could still hear him, but - oh why did he have to do this here? Now? When they weren't at home where it was safe?
