The cafe had a very...warm feeling. Its outside structure looked like wood, and the windows were stained glass. There were vacant sitting places outside on the wooden porch, but of course, in the cold weather no one was making use of it. You could see the outer structure of a stone fireplace. It wasn't the common brick, but seemed made of miss-matched larger stones. The large red wooden door, curved at the top, stood as the entrance. The Celtic Cafe, as it was known, was becoming a popular hangout. Over the summer its proximity to the hospital had been rather convenient. Not that Billy had visited anyone. He hadn't a soul to visit.

Inside the cafe was very homely. Where the fireplace was sat a nice little alcove of sorts - the flooring took a couple steps down, and a plush couch sat on a rug before the fireplace which crackled and emitted a comforting warmth. A bar wrapped around the semi-circular alcove for others who had rather not sit so close to the fire. It also served as a 'fence' so that unsuspecting people didn't step off into the alcove.
All around the place was decorated in tapestries, faux weapons and suits of armor. The tables inside were expensive wood, and a few had names engraved in them by naughty patrons looking to leave the evidence of their love.

More importantly, prices were affordable, and they didn't just offer coffee and sweets. On their menu was soups, salads, pastas, and sandwiches. Light meals. Billy had happened upon the place when looking for a new place to set up shop. It was fate, really. And so a few days later he called Ladon and set up the date. Billy figured these dates should happen on a regular basis. Once a week sounded reasonable. It gave him time to slowly work his way into the heart of the innocent boy, and to plan his plan. It also afforded enough distance for Billy not to become attached. Which he wasn't going to do, mind you.
Tonight was to be dedicated to digging for information. Aside from what he observed, Billy didn't know much about Ladon, which made it hard to plan things properly. Flattery was all good and well, but appealing to Ladon's interests would undoubtedly go further.

Billy had given Ladon the name and address of the cafe, and now he stood outside of it. A brownish coat, flattering of his form and skin tone, rested over a white button-up shirt which Billy wore with the long sleeves rolled up above his elbows. His dark-wash jeans were equally flattering. All together this was casual for Billy. He didn't bother dressing up for the occasions any more than he usually did. After all, a button up shirt tended to be fancy enough suit any occasion. The weather was warm enough in comparison to the past weeks for him to not mind too much waiting outside. He was sure Ladon wouldn't keep him waiting long anyway.

While Billy may not of know Ladon's likes, he more than did the trick with the choice to meet up. The character, detail, and personality of the café was more than up Ladon's alley. He'd always had a love of fantasy, and the entire place seemed like a fairytale cottage that had been dropped off from above in true Oz fashion but in reverse. It stood out from the block, concrete buildings, modern cousins who didn't catch the eye or make you think much of them. In all, he was smitten with the place (among other things), and walked up the walk with a slightly open mouth, a little in awe. He had heard of this place, but never bothered to venture out to see it. There was no reason to go alone and when he had been visiting his family in the hospital, he hadn't been much in the mood to hanging out in random, new places.

He was glad it was fresh and new to him, and he was distracted for a moment from the nervousness he had before coming here. As usually, it was another date and he was left unsure of what to do, say, or wear. Even though it was warmer, he was still the one with a tendency to get cold too much, but he wore a thing sweater, dark green, with a white undershirt. The collar stuck out over the hem. He noticed the fireplace structure and wondered if it was working or just decorative, but then as his eyes traveled, he noticed Billy.

As predicted, Ladon didn't keep him waiting long. He was raised on being punctual and nervousness had made him earlier than most. The idea of 'fashionably late' was not something he practiced. In fact, he thought it was rude. Give Ladon a time and he was usually the person arriving early.

While he still wore his peacoat, there wasn't any overbearing wind to keep him wearing his scarf and mittens. He guessed that, after the whole fiasco with the Ice Queen, that the weather had changed as a result. He wasn't complaining.

Walking up to meet him, he offered a weak, small smile. "This is a really nice place. I didn't think anything like this was in DC." He pointed out, wanting to compliment him on his choice. "Were you waiting long?" Oh geez. He hoped he didn't keep Billy waiting in the cold for ages because of him!

"I don't question the appearance of much in this city anymore," Billy commented in a casually amused tone, although the thought was more bitter than anything in his mind. Everything happening in this City, all the strange occurrences...Billy hated them. In his mind, it was getting in the way of his success as an artist.

"No, I haven't been waiting long. Even so," Billy said moving to open the large red door for Ladon, "I don't mind."

Once inside the cafe there was a rack for patron's coats. Billy slid out of his with all the fluid grace of a cat before stepping behind Ladon and leaning close to his ear, "Care if I take your coat?" The question came velvety and smooth.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 05, 2011 3:46 pm

Glad he wasn't mean enough to keep Billy from freezing, he stepped inside, again a little flustered at the door being opened for him. It was strange considering, in the past, he always thought he'd be the one doing these things. Guys opened doors for their dates. Guys walked their dates home. Seeing as there were two guys, he guessed that there really wasn't that set rule here. Then again, did that make him the girl? That little thought nearly broke his brain, but he was suddenly distracted with a soft warmth from the inside of the café and a even hotter breath against his ear.

The shock nearly made him jump up to the ceiling, and he instead gasped in quickly before looking at Billy from the corner of his eye. All instincts told him to turn around, always on edge with anyone behind him. Maybe it was too long he had been fighting in patrols that ingrained this in him, but he had to turn it off here. Billy was not attacking him after all.

"Oh…th-thank you." He said, and he slowly let Billy take his coat, letting that one layer of security slid off and bet set on the coat rack. He already missed it, and rubbed his arm as he looked about. "Is there anywhere you like to sit?" He asked, looking Billy over. Coats did a bad habit of hiding what a person was wearing, and he noted that Billy seemed to dress in a respectable, nice manner. Not sloppy with fashionable rips or gaudy writing over his clothes. Ladon...appreciated his taste.

Billy might have been pushing it a little in the manner which he slid the coat off his date - far slower and a little less impersonally than other might have. It probably didn't help that he kept the same proximity as he had when asking. Billy, by nature, was an intense person, and so this might have been predictable, by someone who knew him better.

"Hmn," he pretended to spare a moment to consider Ladon's question before, "The fireplace offers privacy. I suspect you would find that preferable?"
Billy had already decided on that place beforehand. Sure it meant sitting their food or whatever on the half foot tall base of the fireplace - the cafe seemed to think this made a nice make-shift table - but it had the couch, and gave the illusion of something much more homely and perhaps romantic. Billy figured Ladon would be more willing to submit to Billy's digging for information in a more private setting.

There didn't seem to be that much of a crowd today, and the people that were there seemed to be either the lonely souls or..oh yeah, there was that group over in the corner playing D&D,... It figured this place would attract such...

His eyes traveled to find the fireplace, and upon spotting it, found it was indeed private. Even with what few people were around, no one had bothered to take their drink over to sit by the fire, which Ladon found was an awful shame. Not for them. He would prefer that no one else was round - N-not for any reason or whatever, but because he never liked anyone watching or having strangers nearby. It's why he hated sitting in waiting rooms. No, he found it a shame no one would appreciate such a great feature of the café. He always wished he had a fireplace where he lived. It had that rustic, picturesque quality he often envisioned when thinking of winter and holiday cards. How often were fireplaces mentioned in those songs? Plenty.

What tripped him up a bit was that Billy said it might be something he preferred. Now, over thinking as usual, he didn't know if Billy thought he preferred privacy or that he preferred fireplaces. Not that either one was bad, but he wondered what Billy thought he'd want privacy for.

Was he…..suppose to be doing something during their private time together?

He moved slowly to the spot, glad that a railing indicated that, why yes Ladon, there was a drop. Good ting too since he nearly feel down. Catching himself, he tried to smooth out the entire thing as if it never happened and went to sit on a couch that was facing the fire. Since there was natural light from the fire, the lights were dimmed and gave it a dark, quiet feel. Easing onto the couch, he found it was soft, well worn and comfortable. "Do you……come here often?" he asked, and thought that THAT sounded like a really bad pickup line. "I mean – how did you find out about this place?" He didn't know what to do with his hands so he set them on his lap. There. Now he could pull on the cuffs of his sweater if he wanted. He checked to see if his palms were sweating. Not yet. Good.

Billy had made sure to grab a couple menus on their short trek over. As Billy sat they were casually tossed aside where they could look upon them later.
"I discovered it recently while scouting for places to set up my wares," was his simple explanation. "It seemed like a quiet enough place for a decent date."
Because in winter you really couldn't just go to the park and sit around without freezing parts off that you'd rather not lose.

"Nice and quiet. Comfortable. I hoped you wouldn't mind telling me about yourself. Interests, hobbies, anything at all. This evening," Billy grinned, placing a hand over Ladon's, "Is reserved entirely for you."
It was a good line. A good line.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 05, 2011 6:28 pm

Decent. …..was he just "decent"? He felt himself twist a little inside, but whatever self-doubt that was back to gripping him was stomped on the moment Billy set his hand on his. It was the Red Alert, all hands on deck, someone get the manual to drive this damn thing because Ladon sure the hell didn't know what to do with himself instead of wondering if he should jerk back or remain …..perfectly…….still.

His brain went for frozen statue and he looked at the hand. It wasn't offensive, it was just there! Worse yet, Ladon was clearly regretting that he put his hands in his lap, and he was now wondering if he should life up his hands and, as his hands were resting under Billy's, transport the entire group over to…..his leg? Or Billys' leg? No. Uh. What did he do with their hands?!

He instead kept them there, and slowly snapped his wide eyes up to Billy as he spoke. It was probably the first time he felt like he could hate Billy, and only because the boy seemed so at ease, so comfortable with what he was saying and doing while all he could do was flush and try and maintain his breathing. If everything wasn't jolting enough to take in, he found he was lead into a trap!

Talking about himself was the worst thing that Ladon could think of doing. He didn't like talking about himself and worse, he felt that Billy would dislike him more and more once he found out more about him. Ladon had made it a perfect art in trying to act and appear normal (which …really wasn't showing through right now), that he hid a lot of things about who he truly was. The great dilemma here was that he had always decided that, whoever he went out with, he would try to make it work and give it the honest effort. Honest in that if he wanted anyone to love him, he believed that people should be true and honest. This……did not bode well for him now, because he didn't want to lie to Billy either.

While it was really touching that Billy would want to spend the day learning about him, Laodn wanted to pull the escape latch and flee to another topic. Sadly, the focus was on him and he had no means of changing the subject. Eventually, they would talk about him. It was natural – or so he guessed. It wasn't like he did this whole dating thing – clearly.

"I. . I don't know what you would want to know. I'm just……an average guy. " HAH! Hardly. What "average guy" restored antique stuffed animals during the day and was a Negaverser at night. He tried to think of basic information. Safe information. "I go to Meadowview. I like art, but I don't like scary movies all that much." They already covered this. "…I……I like going outdoors a lot." That was something new. "Which is why I don't like winter all that much." Well, that was enough of that. All done. "How about you? I'd like to learn more about you too." Yeah. Turn the tables. Go! Go! Go!

"Average?" Billy gave a small laugh, "I would not have selected you if you were average. The average guy wouldn't tense at every touch, wouldn't...see them self as average." Billy removed his hand. He wasn't about to settle for such little information. It looked like he was going to have to trade a little.

"Before being sent to Hillworth, I went to Meadowview as well. What year are you? It comes to my attention that I never really asked your age... My bad on that part. Tell me, Ladon," Billy gave the boy a excitably curious look, as if he were truly excited to learn about him. "What do you like? What do you excel at, your hobbies... I promise in return I will tell you more about me."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 05, 2011 7:18 pm

No go. Not only did he feel more flustered by what Billy was saying, but the boy had returned the focus in earnest back to him, and he was left without any way out. Intentional or not, Billy have given him a deal. For Ladon to know more about him, as Ladon had stated, he had to give in return. It wasn't cruel or unfair, but it didn't help him any. With his hands in his lap and Billy's atop that, he had no way to twist his hands about without upsetting the hands on him and making Billy notice. Instead, he looked back down at his hands, which were now Billy's hand on his, was reminded they were there, swallowed, and pressed back into the couch.

This isn't a police interrogation. This is a date. He wants to know more about you. Perfectly natural. The only bad thing about that was that he felt that if he said anything more, Billy's odd interest in him would vanish, he would find that whatever treasure he had found was only fool's gold, and that he would either become bored or disinterested. As much as it had been quick and sudden, he liked the idea of saying he had been on a date – not that he said this to anyone. He just liked knowing he had a. …………bo..boyfr………..a person he meet and wanted to know more about him. Who liked him.

If you want that, he has to like the real you.

"Well……..I like running. I used to be on track. Even though I'm not as tall, I still wanted to be on the team." There was something, but maybe not up to Billy's standards of useful information. "…..I also took self-defense for a while." He didn't want to mention it was because he was beaten up since he was young. "…..and I sew a little." Well, a lot. What he sewed, he didn't want to say either. "I also like to cook a little, but I'm no good at baking."

Would Billy find him weird? He had mentioned that it wasn't average for him to tense up like this. Did Billy find him strange for being like this? He had noticed didn't he – what with mentioning it?

"All good things to know how to do. It is good to know how to be self-sufficient. You won't go hungry, nor will you simply have to throw away a good article of clothing because of a simple tare. And on the note of track and self defense, well,..if you find yourself in trouble, at least you can fight back or flee," And now it was time to turn all those genuine comments into something more endearing; "Not that you would ever have to do either if i had my way about it. They'd have to get through me first."

Billy sat back a bit, taking more of a lounging position, "As for me, you know I am an artist. Self taught, started when I was young. Between that and school, I don't do much. I don't like to rely on others any more than I have to. It is also my goal to become well known for my talent. It takes perseverance though. Especially in this city. Ever since about a year ago things have really started going down the gutter," his tone turned bitter, "People as a whole seem to be degrading. Sometimes I think the monsters I sense are more human...which is perhaps why I choose to be better identified as a monster myself."

Now it was time to turn the conversation back to Ladon, "You are a kinder person than I though. Perhaps you can restore my faith in humanity. Or maybe reassure me that I'm not just bitter..." he shrugged.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 05, 2011 8:29 pm

Ladon gave a quick chuckle. It wasn't meant to insult Billy, but the notion that he could protect him was a little ridiculous all things considering. While anyone who looked at him would say he was an easy target, anyone who knew him as a Negaverse Captain would think twice. He'd floored men three times his size and cut up people for nothing more than a starseed. While he somehow still retained his humanity and humility, he wasn't as easy to push aside as he had been a year or so ago. In fact, if a youma ever did come around, he doubted Billy could do much against it.

Still, as a note, Ladon rarely laughed. They were short little spurts. Something that, despite composure and manners, slipped by, and it was probably the widest his smile ever go, as most were small and hardly ever open grins. Not unless he was carving something to pieces. Just as quickly as it came, it died out, and he slipped one hand from his lap, the one under the two, and waved it off. "Sorry. It's just…I attract a lot of trouble. I've ..managed to deal with it on my own. I don't think you're prepared for any sort of monsters I might attract." He jerked himself to attention at that. His nerves must have made him slip that little information out, and he kicked himself for it. As a civilian, Billy knew nothing about his other life. Of course he would be confused. "It's just, I've had a lot of people who used to pick on me when I was growing up. I learned because of that. I don't know if you want to take any of that attention on." It was a quick recovering, but in turn, it also revealed what he hadn't intended to. That he was picked on.

He looked away a moment, wondering if he had done wrong to take Billy's kind and sweet over to protect him, a gesture that hadn't gone unnoticed and without a slight pinkening that seemed to start growing more and more in red the longer they sat together, and something he felt a little… touched by. Few people rarely protected him in the past and while he didn't need it now, it was nice to know it was there. It showed that he cared.

Looking to the fire, he tried not to smile. "I've seen a lot of bad people because of that, and I don't see that sort of cruelty in you. I don't think you're a monster at all. You're actually really nice." He was taking him out after all and giving him the time of day. Most people wouldn't bother. That in itself earned the gray-haired teen major points. It wasn't hard to win Ladon over.

"You're hard working, ambitious, and you like art. I don't think those are qualities in horrible people." He glanced up at the other. "Is there a reason why you think you're a monster?"

"You forget, I go to Hillworth - den of the bad boys and bullies. Give me a list of names of people who've harmed you in the past and I assure you, they'll be delt with if they've been sent there." Billy smirked. he had merely taken the small laughter as Ladon being flattered. Perhaps he still did. Of course in the future Billy would probably want to face palm at ever saying such a thing....all things considered. But hey, at the time he didn't know Ladon's other self. Still, it would no doubt hurt Billy's bravado.

"Why am I a monster? The mind can be a vile thing, Ladon. You should know I am...quite arrogant, actually. I hold myself above many of these people. I believe I am, no, know I am better than them and will fully admit it. In many people's opinion, that makes me a royal a*****e. I find it hard to see people as people, if you know what I mean. That makes it easy to think of them as...something to be used."
Billy was treading dangerous ground - fully admitting he was like this. However he hoped he had at least made it seem like Ladon was an exception. If not then perhaps a little reassurance was needed... "You stood out to me. An exception to my arrogant self. Holier than thee, were you to me." And then Billy's hand, which had retreated earlier, found its way to Ladon's face, knuckles lightly gracing over his cheek. Billy issued a look he hoped was soft and endearing.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 05, 2011 9:09 pm

Ladon shook his head. "I'm not making more trouble for you in a school you have to go to. It's fine. As long as they are there, they're not bothering me where I go to school." It was true. As long as the list of people he knew (they weren't all boys that picked on him) were in Hillworth or St. Magdalena's, he was safe in his school. Most people in Meadowview didn't pay attention to him now since he learned to blend in the background, keep his head low, and not raise any eyebrows. He learned to be quieter than he already was and just get by with homework and sitting by himself during lunch. School was just to get done and over with anyways. He found no joy in it which could be attributed to his lack of friends.

As kind as Billy seemed to be, Ladon couldn't help but note the way Billy talked about himself and people. When he called himself an a*****e, Ladon winced. Not only because he thought it was a hard way to think of oneself, but swearing always made him cringe. Not only that, but it didn’t seem that the boy next to him was all that he appeared. His thoughts and opinions were rather dark, and coming from someone who not only thought he was not at the same level as some point, but also found it hard to not see them as people, he found he was on a different viewpoint as the other. Maybe that's what Billy mean about him being different.

And, to further his point, he removed his hand and raised it. Ladon had, for a while now, been touchy about his face. A faint touch put him on edge on a more guarded way than nervousness, but he only held his breath and watched the hand graze his chin before, in a moment's time, he remembered they were in public and what that might look like. He turned his head, looked about, then back down at his hands and the fire place. Now tomato red, he couldn't decide where to look. "Some people are terrible, and you can think more highly of them if you have better characteristics than they have. That doesn't make you a as…a…a bad person." Again, he just couldn't swear. It was rude and distasteful. " But if you know you are like that, then you can only improve. At least you're better than people who don't know and think they deserve the entire world on a platter for doing nothing. You certainly don't go into places demanding everyone to bend to your every whim. You're respectful enough from what I see." Billy hadn't come into the café and just made a scene, thinking he was a god. Now that was arrogant.

He managed to focus his eyes on his hands finally, but reminded himself that not looking at the person you were talking to was wrong. So, he glanced up. "You shouldn't call yourself a monster. I wouldn't be going out with someone who was." He hoped that would at least be a little complement and pull Billy from whatever dark thoughts he had about the world.

It was amusing, watching Ladon's reactions. His discomfort added a great deal of enjoyment to Billy's game.
"I don't enter into a place like that because I don't expect people to recognize me as better than them. They don't know how to read minds. Neither do I for that matter, but I like to think I know how to read people." It was true. Billy had certainly done a swell job with Ladon. Then again maybe the boy was just painfully easy prey. It was time to add a little more sweetness to conversation; "What you see is what you bring out in me. All I ever hoped for... A reason not to be so vile."

Billy let the be silence, and spared a well rehearsed warm smile for Ladon, before leaning over and grabbing the two menus, "Would you like dinner? Maybe a drink, since we've done so much talking?"
