Featherpaw had always loved looking up at the stars. There was such a majesty and mystery to them. And some of the pictures one could find in the stars gave her ideas for stories. The blue and red wild dog yawned and shook herself, then trotted away from her den to do her nightly round of 'hello's and story-exchanges. She'd always been a social butterfly, even if she still acted like a pup most of the time.

She loved her pack, especially now that it had grown so much after the tragedy that had befallen it in the past.

User ImageThe young dog carried herself briskly over the earth with no where special to be. She was walking for the sake of walking. Sometimes this practice would gift her with some inspiration towards a grand tale that would entertain the pack. But only rarely...

Thistlefoot's purple eyes glanced from one friendly face to the next, exchanging smiles and brief greetings as she went. It was an unusual event to come across a new face in this community.. but whenever she did, Thistlefoot found it hard to introduce herself. Her quiet voice and timid nature made her nearly invisible if one wasn't observant enough to spy her. The young female didn't find this troubling at all. She embraced the characteristics that made her who she is. Besides, her soft voice never failed to deliver an audible tone when it came to telling stories that would make her packmates smile. So that's all that really mattered!

Thistlefoot hadn't wandered far when she spied the experienced red-pawed story teller who went by Featherpaw. Thistefoot admired her for her talents, and her wisdom. Maybe this would be a grand opportunity to snag a lesson! Despite her hesitant nature, Thistlefoot cautiously approached the older female, hoping she wasn't about to interrupt anything important. "Hello." Was all she could think to say, but her voice had only managed a whisper, so she tried a second time. "Hello!" That's better.

The older female started a bit, but smiled at the familiar face. She wasn't well acquainted with the younger wild dog, but she knew her name and had seen her in the pack. And she knew the other was also a storyteller.

"Hello! What might I do for you this evening, Thistlefoot?" Featherpaw was always happy to help a packmate, and it showed, her tail wagging cheerfully behind her.

Thistlefoot wagged her tail, putting her cautious thoughts aside in order to grasp this opportunity to advance in her "career."

"I really admire the stories you tell... and your method.. and.." A quiet giggle escaped the young dog's lips. Her timid nature was getting the better of her. If her cheeks weren't already reddish in color, her embarrassment would have been obvious. "I was wondering if ... if you'd share your uh... methods with me?" Her face brightened, taking a step closer as her tail continued to wag melodiously. "Like... Where do you get your inspiration?" This was only the beginning of the barrage of questions Thistlefoot had in mind for the talented dog in front of her. She hoped she'd learn something exceptional - and there's no doubt she would!

The dog's ears strained forward, listening attentively to whatever Featherpaw had to say. The most ridiculous words could come out of her mouth, and she'd believe every bit of it. Not that that's what she was expecting, however...

Featherpaw blinked, then laughed softly and nodded. "Of course I'd be willing to share!" She didn't mind sharing her knowledge with the younger generation at all. After all, she wouldn't be around forever! "Walk with me." She moved so she was next to the younger female, instead of in front of. "As for where I get my inspiration...it comes from everywhere. From the lives of our fellow pack members, from the beauty of a sunset, and from the history of our pack, the things even the Now cannot forget."

Thistlefoot calmly let her petite paws carry her next to the older female as she spoke of her inspiration. "Oooh.. Everything?" The wild dog would have to take that very literally, so she scribbled some mental notes in her mental notepad. She realized she hadn't been that open minded... and reprimanded herself for holding herself back. Her ears drooped, and she frowned, looking skyward as she pondered her next question.

"Do you come up with your stories on the spot, or do you prepare them? Or are they stories you heard from someone else and passed them down?" For herself, it was the latter. Her mom was also a storyteller, but Thistlefoot would always add a twist here and a surprise there just to keep it interesting... for herself and for her audience.

Featherpaw giggled and nodded. "Indeed, everything. Now whether that inspiration becomes a good story or not is an entirely different matter. And some of them are just for humor." The older wild dog loved a good laugh.

"Hmm...all three, I suppose. Usually, I like a little preparation, but sometimes you end up with the best stories right on the spot. And there's nothing wrong with passing down a tale you heard. Sometimes, it helps to teach, or keep others from making the same mistake, or even just gets them to giggle or smile." She rather liked the tales her once-lost Brightone told her...they were wondrous stories of wandering and love and discovery.
