Gargantuan was on a serious mission, the most serious mission (besides eating a boat) that he'd ever been on his whole, entire life. He was going to scare someone.

A long time ago (not long at all, in reality), Malodore had given him good and sound advice. Now all he had to do was implement that advice, and he would be well on his way to becoming one of the scariest swamp beasts that ever roamed! The problem was finding a suitable victim.

The big swamp beast had been doing his best to inch around corners all day, hoping to catch someone with their back turned or walking the opposite direction. Even when he did find someone though... well, Gargantuan wilted. What if they just laughed at him? What if he fell over first?

And then, of course, he'd needed a snack break to forget his anxiety.

He had returned, however, more determined than ever. His thick, blunt tongue was sticking out slightly between his bulldog-like teeth, and his tail swished with the patient lull of a predator. He was going to scare someone today, Jack darn it, even if he had to stay up all night doing so!

Riley was the perfect target for just such a scare, on this day. She had no idea that she was walking straight into a trap, as she slipped quietly through the hall with her head partially obscured by a book. She was deeply entranced in the subject - anatomy, yum - and she had just gotten to the best part, the bone structure of the skull. She was memorizing all of the different weak points when she strode, unknowingly, by G. Her movements were so fluid, so silent, that it felt like a shadow was passing over. A very purple, very oblivious shadow.

Little did she know, this would probably be the last day she allowed herself to read while walking through these halls.

There.

The beast did his best to flatten himself against one of the lockers, which oozed and sputtered goo at him in indignant protest. A girl he didn't know, with pretty-funny hair and she was purple! And had a book! Books made good snacks, so G felt a little bad that he was about to interrupt her meal time, but if he didn't seize this opportunity... well, who knew when he'd get another one.

Cue the Jaws theme.

Moving as quietly as a monster his size could, Gargantuan crept closer and closer still. His massive hands slowly reached out in front of him, and when he was close enough that he might have been able to lick the back of her hair just to see if it really did taste like graveyard worms...

...Well, he snatched the unsuspected girl up in a back-breaking hug and roared, "SURPRISE, G HAS SURPRISE FOR YOU!"

Hooray! Now he was scary!

Riley had no visual confirmation that there was a giant green monster creeping up behind her, but her tentacles perked at him when he was close enough, and they cringed slightly. Her head snapped up, but that was far as she got before she was snatched up in a hug by unfamiliar arms. The book fell from her fingers and clattered to the floor as she was lifted in the air, and her defensive instincts kicked into gear as if she was under assault.

A high pitched keening sound would fill G's mind, as she screamed in terror. Oh, he had accomplished his goal fully - he'd scared the horror right out of her, and her mind-piercing scream gave every indication that she thought she was about to be killed.

Physically, she barely struggled in his arms, too shocked at the fact that something had just captured her and held her hostage. The only thing that moved frantically were her tentacles, which were trying desperately to reach out to G. Luckily he was holding her high enough that they couldn't reach, otherwise they'd most certainly be trying to burrow into his brain right now.

Blissfully unaware that the pretty graveworms wanted to have his brains for lunch, the swamp beast all but beamed as the wails filled his head--though, he probably had no idea that she wasn't actually screaming, but it was close enough! With a pleased, snuffling sort of snort, Gargantuan would gingerly set her back on the floor, though not before letting his suckered fingers pat her on the head a few times.

Hee.

"G sorry." He rumbled at her, but it was hard to pretend like he wasn't pleased with himself! "G didn't mean to be so scary." Yes. Yes, he did, but knew better than to brag! He studied her for a moment, a wide grin still stretched across his froggish face.

"Hi. Am G."

As G was setting her down, Riley started to regain some sense of clarity. It was a student who was holding her, not some terrifying enemy - but her tentacles accepted no such clarity. They still worked on instinct, wiggling desperately towards G's head. Sadly, all they got was a hand, though they still suckered instantly at the skin's contact, and Riley had to reach up to press her hair tentacles forcefully down and off his skin. They might even have left some red markings, they had been going at it rather angrily.

She ducked out of the touch, careful not to let him actually stroke her tentacles because Jack knew that was the last thing they needed right now, and swiveled quickly to face him. Her eyes were narrowed fiercely in anger and confusion.

What?! She managed to hiss out, putting at least a foot of space between them so as to eliminate any further chance of attack. Are you introducing yourself after physically assaulting me?! She asked incredulously. One hand was still pressed hard against her tentacles, trying to calm their angry wiggling. The other was waving wildly at him. Are you serious?

Oh! Her pretty-wiggly-wormy hair had made funny marks on his skin, and Gargantuan curiously drew his hand closer to his face to observe, letting his fingers twitch as though to see if the marks would move or not. Sadly, that was not the case, and as the girl's head snapped around, G may or may not have wilted from the way her eyes suddenly got all squinty.

...Uh-oh. Did she get dust in them?

"If G licks it, it'll feel better." He told her wisely, as though he had some sort of experience with this sort of thing. The words she threw at him... well, his ear fins were starting to twitch uncertainly. "...G... G don't know those words." He finally said, hunching his shoulders abashedly and ducking his chin against his chest. Physmanitical ashoogalah? Never heard of them.

"G not serious! G scary!" His hands popped up in psuedo-claws as though to better demonstrate for her. "...Rraaaaaawwwwrrr. See?"

What.. what was even happening right now? Riley felt like the green giant had just thrown cold water in her face. He had just assaulted her, had he not? Yet now, he was acting like a harmless baffoon. There will be no licking of any kind, thank you. She hissed, straightening out of her defensive crouch.

And then he held his hands out like claws and roared at her in the least scary way she'd ever seen. She had to wonder if this was some practical joke. Was Nuk hiding somewhere in the wings, looking for a quick laugh? She eyed the corners of the hallway quickly before returning her attentions to G. Am I to understand you are not about to try to kill me? She had to ask, not really sure if she would believe his answer. Then again, he seemed curiously naive. He could just end up telling her the truth. And if so, then I am left wondering why you have attacked me in the first place?

"Oh. Kay." No licking. He could remember that. No licking. Nooooo... licking. Noooo liiiiicking. ...No licking her eyes? Did that mean the rest of her was lickable? She should have been specific--oh, but she was standing up now! ...She was still very small, and his tail immediately thumped against the floor a little, enamored with the idea. Everyone was always so tiny!

The word 'kill' was enough to make the brute hunker down even further, his hands dropping guiltily against his chest while he gave her a blank expression. "G... G no hurt no one. G nice." He said uncertainly, flexing his fingers. Oh, Malodore hadn't said anything about this! "Just 'posed to scare, no hurt."

The beast grumbled over a plausible answer before he brightly said, "To be scary! Mal said G be good at huggy scares!" His fins drooped a little, and he glanced at her sidelong, gesturing her to come closer so he could make his confession. "G not very scary.. but G learnin'! G learnin' lots." A sage nod.

This.. this thing was being so submissive, it was conflicting Riley. She had been scared of him, certainly. Yet now.. now she just kind of wanted to dominate it and call it her own. Much like everyone else, really - but perhaps more fervently with this one. It was likely due to the way he spoke in broken, childish phrases. He reminded her of a giant pet of sorts.

So you're.. nice. She repeated, her voice sounding wary. You're simply learning how to be scary. Is that what I'm to understand? Her head cocked gently, tentacles shifting to one side. If it's any consolation - G, was it? - you've succeeded. You scared me.. truly and thoroughly. I was quite certain you wanted me for breakfast. She pressed her hand against her chest, feeling her head only just barely starting to beat a normal rhythm once again. Then, as if it had suddenly struck her in the face, she blinked up at him in surprise.

Pardon. Did you say Mal? Certainly he couldn't mean who she thought. Who is Mal, might I ask?

"Yes!" Came the enthusiastic boom, his tail thumping even more frantically now. She understood, she understood him! This was good! And her praise--well, the monster quite literally seemed to swell with pride, a rumbled hum stirring about in his chest as he temporarily basked in his moment of glory. He'd scared her! He'd managed to scare someone! He wasn't a bad monster after all! "G thinks you nice." He told her sincerely, though her next question made him tilt his head.

"Mal da doctor." He said quite proudly. "Om... we played in band..." That earned a shudder before he went on. "And Mal in play now, too! Oh. But not 'posed to touch mask. Can hug though!"

He was looking at her expectantly, like he couldn't understand why anyone wouldn't want to hug Malodore. He was very fun to hug!
PostPosted: Fri Jan 07, 2011 10:57 pm

Oh, G. If only you knew how much Riley would agree with you about our favorite plague doctor's huggability ratio. She paused for a few moments of silence, letting all of his obvious indications of Malodore sink in. He most certainly WAS talking about it, and from what it sounded like, they were friends.

There was a silent shuffling of inventory as Riley moved G's listing from a Type Z to a Type D. She was now much more tolerant of his indiscretion. Do you often hug Malodore like you hugged me? She quipped, her voice vibrating in amusement. She couldn't picture it.

Now, there was a new agenda. Riley's eyes crinkled in lieu of a smile. You know, G. There are better ways to scare someone than to sneak up on them and grab them from behind. Not that your methods aren't adequate. Perhaps if we put our heads together.. She paused at that, trying very hard to keep her thoughts from sounding like laughter. We could think of something far more gruesome.

She put her hand to her cheek. But I am being so rude, I have not yet introduced myself. My name is Riley. She pulled the hand away from her face and held it out to him. Is your full name G, or is that a nickname?

"Uh-huh!" Gargantuan nodded enthusiastically, his tail twitching at the sheer though. "Mal likes hugs!" He would have been all too happy to pluck the thin undead up so Riley could properly hug him, but it was probably better for the world's sake if that knowledge never became public. And by the world, we mean the entire student body. The girl's eyes did funny things again, but it didn't look like she was in pain this time.

It looked like she was going to sneeze!

Before G could ask how she could sneeze with no nose, he was thankfully distracted by the thought of being able to scare even more people, and in different ways! His jaws dropped open in a silly grin, and the monster was clearly delighted at the thought. "G likes to scare! G good at listenin', so, so..." Well, whatever plan Riley cooked up, G would happily do his best to be the grunt work for it!

At the extended hand, the monster tilted his head curiously for a moment, then affectionately pressed his head against her palm with a rumble. "Hullo Riiiiileeeeey. Am G."

Because he hadn't told her properly, of course, so clearly she had no way of knowing!

"Mm... G is Garrggrrn.... Garrrararggaantanan...." A very, very heavy sigh. "Just G."

Riley watched with open curiosity as G tried to pronounce his own name with such difficulty. It was extraordinary. G then. She scritched his head softly when it was offered, assuming this to be his customary greeting and finding no problem with it.

Well then, she murmured thoughtfully as her hand dropped to her side. What shall we cook up for you, G? There's always the traditional 'hide a corpse in the closet', but I feel that isn't taking full advantage of your.. assets. She patted his chest as she said this, a little surprised at how hard it was. He was like a rock. I'd want to use your strengths.. and ironically enough I would wager your strength is your strength. She chuckled lightly, amused at her own quip. I need a moment or two to think up something clever. I wouldn't want to just send you off with some half-cocked plan, after all.

She closed her eyes and rested two fingers against her temple. Unbenownst to him, she was accessing all the information she could find on scare tactics. There were far more gruesome ideas filtering through her head now than ever before. She had to find something that didn't involve mutilation.. though the idea of G slowly pulling Sin's fingernails off one by one did leave Riley shuddering with pleasure.

An affectionate rumble stirred in his throat at the scritchings, and G offered a tail-thump of approval. Hooray! His skin tended to dry out when he was away from the water for a while, and when rubbing himself against walls/desks/random people didn't work, he had come up with more resourceful options!

"G founds lotsa corpses in graveyard." He said simply, tilting his head slightly as though to contemplate. And he got petted again for it! With another noisy bang of his tail, the beast exhaled happily through his nostrils, and, while Riley seemed to be thinking hard about what to do, would timidly attempt to coil himself around her without knocking her over entirely. He was lucky, finding someone like Riley to help him!

This, of course, meant that the monster now utterly adored her.

He did his best to be quiet while she thought, eying her tentacles and occasionally licking at his teeth, as though savoring the mere thought of giving them a good slime. Maybe they'd be gooey...

"Riley good at scaring?" He wanted to know after managing to keep himself quiet for about half a minute, and it was probably easy to detect the admiration in his voice. Of course she'd be good at scaring--in G's mind, Riley was already good at everything!
