This thread continues the RP that occurred here: Infirmary

Riley's mirthful appearance dropped instantly. He continued sending his thoughts of trying to explain what he thought a ~real~ ghoul was, and honestly, he was making things worse with every stumble. She was conflicted - to continue with her plan, and try to ignore the blatant insults being flung at her, or to slap the patchwork's head right off of his newly patched up body?

So tempting.

She had just decided to find even ground between the two, and respond with a scathing remark, when it happened. She felt her pin tingling painfully at her chest, and looked down to glance at it. After witnessing the sparks, and the all-too-familiar feeling of being dispersed, she managed to look up at Christof one last time with widened, horrified eyes before they, too, disappeared in a puff of FEAR
.

Christof was still sputtering when the sparks came, brows furrowing in confusion before suddenly there was the uncanny sensation of being turned inside out and backwards. After what felt like eons, the ground suddenly came up to meet him with a jarring jolt, and he tumbled, fighting the urge to be sick. That never went well for him, and he avoided it whenever possible. Riley had been about to say something- or kill him- he wasn't sure, but in any case, that was CERTAINLY not how he wanted to leave things! Scrambling on the ground, he drew in a long, cool breath, feeling the Fear surge through his fresh stitches, the raw calming down as though caressed by invisible cool fingers. Even his legs had lost their shake. He glanced around frantically for any sign of the purple psychic, praying he hadn't spoiled his chances with the *one person* he could talk to.

Riley found herself on her back, again. She was still aching, and still torn up, but the one thing that somehow managed to annoy her the most was that she was on her back. Again. It was a position she very strongly did not like, and she pushed herself to her feet with much more force than necessarily. A sense of relief flooded her as she caught sight of where she was, but it was marred by the sight of their headmistress looking down on them from the window. She looked so smug. Riley wanted to wipe that smug grin right off her face.

She heard movement directly in front of her, and found the patchwork she'd been speaking with as he scrambled to get up. She took a step to assist him, but the last thing he'd said flooded back into her memory, and she paused.

So rude. But he could be helpful. What to do, what to do..

Behind you, Christof. She finally murmured out in a quiet thought, holding her hand out in a gesture of assistance.

He turned around sharply, his lopsided body nearly pulling him off of his feet by the inertia before quickly hobbling towards her. His mental voice was clearer here in Halloweentown, the feelings of panic and terror of her wrath flooding at her unabashedly, I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to think- I mean you do have very lovely parts I just was very tired and in pain and I'm feeling a lot better now can you feel it? I feel it all over oh wow these stitches are lovely and tight! But please please don't hate me, I didn't mean to offend you Mistress Riley, I swear-!

Christof's sudden enthusiasm and bumbling apologies charmed the insults away, and Riley couldn't help but forgive him for his transgression. Of course, it helped that he'd called her mistress, which was, let's admit it, what Riley wanted the entire world to call her on the day they bowed at her feet and declared their fealty. She reached down and helped him up, patting him gently on the back. Okay. It's okay. I understand. She laughed, leaning in slightly. But if you ever say anything like that again, I won't be so easy to win over. Besides, she straightened back up, and shook her head. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm well aware of it. While you may consider Sin some standard of perfection, I would.. wholeheartedly disagree. She thought of that terrible, terrible outfit the demon had been wearing, and stifled a gag.

No one is without flaws Christof's thoughts had slowed, thankfully, while he mulled her words over, My Old Master always said that a person is only a sum of their parts... And that he used only the best parts for his purposes, always. At least she wasn't about to kill him. It was odd, having someone hang so close to him for so long. Usually people were put off by the smells that clung to his clothes and flesh- although he supposed most everything smelled a bit like Char, even still. Fear helped heal their bodies but not their clothing. He tugged at his collar again, trying to hide his trembling, eternally-tight-lipped mouth, I... I do not have much experience at this. Speaking with er... he floundered for the word, but the general concept of 'Peers' floated and tried to fit the gap and worked well enough.

No, I suppose you wouldn't. Well, don't worry so much. I don't bite. Unless asked. She looked up at the school one more time, and a wave of exhaustion finally overtook her. Christof, I hate to cut our time together short, but.. the last few days have been hell for all of us. Shall we retire to our respective dorm rooms for a much needed rest, and perhaps we shall speak again at a later date? She didn't necessarily want to leave, knowing this was an excellent chance to take advantage of his fresh guilt and use it to her advantage, but ... she couldn't fight it anymore. She needed to lie down in her lovely cocoon, wrapped up in the feeling of FEAR penetrating every pore, and recharge.

He nodded, pulling away from her as he picked at his charred vest, yes, yes of course.... but... but you'll come see me in the play at least? he added hopefully.

Oh s**t.

The Christmas Play.

Suddenly the feeling of nausea returned.

What an odd request. Well, I suppose. I was already planning on attending the dreadful thing but- her brow had furrowed when he asked her about the play, as if there was some niggling bit of information she was failing to remember, and it had bothered her until that moment.

That was where she had seen Christof before.

A flash of memory of standing outside the auditorium, and seeing a flash of brown - a familiar looking costume - a strange looking boil holding some odd construction - and it all clicked together in one mighty, crashing realization.

Christof had gotten the part of Oogie Boogie in the play.

Christof had gotten the part of Oogie Boogie in the play.. over her.

Everything went red for a moment, and a surge of adrenaline pumped through her veins as this atrocity dawned on her.

.. You're playing Oogie. She whispered out quietly, not quite prepared to expose any emotion in her voice just yet.

She quickly calculated her options.

1. Kill Christof, take the role for herself.
2. Convince Christof to quit the play, take the role for herself.
3. Allow Christof to play the role, and try to show some semblence of support Kill Christof.

Decisions, decisions.

Wobbling still with exhaustion, he straightened up as proud and straight as a hunchback was able, tugging at the bottom of his vest, Well, I'm only *partly* playing oogie.... Still, the horrors of Christmas were still fresh in his mind, and put a slight twitching tremble into the corners of his stitched mouth. My friend Barth will be doing all the er... singing. All those practices, all that corralling of the Sloth-demon, and suddenly Christof was having second thoughts? No. No, he would go through with it, because it was an HONOR to be playing Oogie, dammit. Regardless of.... the rest. I really must go find a fresh arm... he finally managed distantly.

Riley reached out, slowly, and wrapped her long fingers around the back of Christof's neck. One twist, and it would be all over. How easy would it be?

Her fingers clenched for a moment, before they relaxed. Her chest heaved upward in lieu of a sigh, and she closed her eyes. Priorities shuffled easily in her head, and she decided that the play was not worth the loss. Not by a long shot. So, she took the hit to her ego, and patted him gently.

You'll do great. Now off you go. Her words sounded a little forced, as if she was trying to hold back - which she was. I'll see you at the play.

He positively beamed at her, not comprehending how close to death he had been- he was still a bit preoccupied by the brush with death in Christmas Town. He wasn't a fan, generally. Moving to take her hand in his remaining one, he shook it enthusiastically, Thank you, Mistress Riley! Hopefully I will not let you down! I have never been in a play before, but it seemed fun I'm not sure but... but I'm sure you'll enjoy it! It was certainly a pleasure to meet you!

Yes, perhaps this all worked out for the best in the end. The play would have been an exorbitant amount of work for very little gain, in the end. It was better left to those who had the time to waste.

Her entire frame shook slightly when Christof shook her hand with such fervor, and her eyes crinkled slightly in contentment at the title of mistress. That'll never get old.

It was a pleasure to meet you as well, Christof. Good luck.

With a proper farewell and a polite little bow, he hurried towards the Undead Dormitory. He needed a new arm for starters... hopefully he had a spare that was articulate enough to work his upgraded puppet. Maybe some extra fingers would be in order....

After a long nap, more than likely. And maybe a wash. He was thrilled to be home, and all things considered, the trip had been.... insightful! Sure, he had practically died in a horrible inferno, but it could have been worse. He could have not woken up. He was very happy to be back in Halloween, especially now that he had made so many new friends. Things were looking up for the Hunchback. He paused, though, turning back to try to shout his thoughts to the retreating Mindflayer, And... and you'll help me meet Sin? Right? Still? Hopefully she hadn't forgotten.

Riley watched him walk away, while briefly pondering the events that had unfolded in the last few hours. She turned and meandered with a slow step, deep in thought, which was startlingly interrupted by a shout. Apparently Christof felt that distance affected the mind, so when his shouting came at her loud and clear, she almost took a misstep but caught herself before falling. She turned to rest her gaze on him, trying not to be disgusted by his choice of ghoulish companionship, and nodded. Her voice came clear as day - I will.

She briefly contemplated asking him to check up on Malodore for her, since he was headed into the undead dorms, but checked herself. She felt self-conscious, revealing her interest to the patchwork. She'd sound just as silly as he did. She rose her hand and curled her fingers in a wave, before heading to the demon dormitories.
