Birds chirped and flew from the branches, spreading their wings in the light from the rising sun. Golds, pinks, and pale dusky blues painted the land in it's own version of morning. Even though the sun had just begun to rise over the horizon, a young golden filly tip-toed over the lush, yet cold, grass. Just an hour ago she escaped her sleeping father. It's not as if she didn't love him, but it was that he would never let her venture on her own, and when she walked with him they didn't go far and he didn't tell her much about anything. Aarushi assumed this would be the only way.

Either way, confident and brazen as she was - Aarushi continued forward, breaking through the tree line, where the pasture met the forests, and entered. As she walked she was forced to weave around trees and carefully tread over stumps and fallen logs. Being new to freedom, and the land itself, she had no real idea of where she was headed - just that she would know when she got there.

Eventually she stumbled upon a clearing that was almost a perfect oval. By now the sun had risen up into the center of the sky and hung there like an unmoving pendulum. Even with it's rays spreading out into the clearing, the air was a particular, and bitter, cold. Unmistakably beautiful, though, the rays were. They shot through the canopy of trees with precision landing on a small pond that was fed by a stream coming from the direction she was facing, opposite the way she came.

Finally, the filly decided she wound stay here until she felt that she was up to returning to her father, or at least until something interesting happened. Which could be never. Walking up to the pond, she took a drink (after she assured that it was crystal clear, she would NOT drink disgusting water), and looked up at the equally beautiful, clear sky.

Kali woke on that chilly morning, early as she always did, and thirsty as she always was. Even with all the mysteries in the little foal's life, Kali made sure there was at least one constant - her morning routine. She'd wake up and trot over to the pretty little pond just inside the forest. She'd count the trees - three white ones, and two really dark brown ones - then take about 20 big steps past the funny-shaped rock. That was where her pond was. She loved that little pond - the water always sparkled so prettily in the sunlight in the morning. And Kali felt so lucky to be the only one to know of this place - she never saw other soquili in the area, and only knew of fish and frogs living in the water.

Today was different. It started out the same, of course - waking up and heading to her pond for a nice cold drink of water. But this morning brought with it a new visitor to her tiny lake. When Kali saw the yellow-orange figure drinking from her secret pond, she wasn't sure how to react. She felt... violated. It was only one soquili, sure, but what if this one told others? Then the peace of the little clearing would be broken forever as dozens of families came to see and taste the pretty water.

Emboldened by her anger and fear of discovery, Kali quickly trotted over to the other foal and charged, aiming for the stranger's shoulder.

Just as the young fawn looked up, she saw that another young philly was in the clearing with her. However, this little foal seemed totally outraged - and was charging at her! Not a moment too early, Aarushi stepped out of the way, "What in the WORLD do you think you're doing!" She stomped her hoof on the ground and snorted, just as irate as the other foal now. "Here I am, just taking a drink of water, and you come barging into me like im some....some horrible person who stole your favorite toy! Jeez." Aarushi frowned and glared at the little philly. "Don't you know that it's completely and utterly rude to do something like that? Why, I outta trample you." Aarushi snorted again and walked around the pond. "Seriously. You don't even know me."

Kali snorted indignantly, standing her ground as she watched the other little foal prance around angrily. "I have every right to charge at you!" she squeaked, her tiny body shivering with a mixture of rage and fright. "This is my pond! I didn't say you could come here an' drink from it! You didn't ask my permission an', an'... stole my water! I'd insist you give it back, but," she paused to screw up her face in disgust, "it won't be water anymore when you're done with it." She started to calm down a bit and frowned apologetically at the other spotted foal. "L-look, I'm sorry I charged at you, but... this is my private pond. No one else knows about it but me an' you, an' I'm scared that if you tell anyone about it, there'll be lots an' lots of soquili here soon, drinking an' making noise an' scaring the animals! An' then my home won't be peaceful no more."

Aarushi frowned and furrowed her brows, "Your pond?! Well, if it's your pond, then why don't you put up a sign! It's not like it has your name on it!" She exclaimed, giving a huff and puffing out her cheeks. "Just because I come into this dinky little watering hole doesn't mean i'm going to bring fifty gazillion soquili with me! I don't want to have people making noise around me any more than you do!" Aarushi sighed and rolled her eyes, stepping closer to the other little philly, "Im sorry, ok? But I don't have anybody else to tell, except my dad - an' trust me, I won't be talking ta' him." She glanced down at the small piece of prime real estate and ran a pointed hoof over the surface, making a few ripples.
