Lily smiled as she parked in the lot to Hindsight. Despite the trouble it often caused her ears and the nasty looks she sometimes got from people despite not really knowing why she was starting to frequent Hindsight. It was close, open late and best of all open to teenagers and young adults. It served hot chocolate, coffee, soda and water separate from the bar and had lovely private room for when you ears could no longer take a beating.
She hopped out pulling her scarf a little tighter against the cold, closed her door and locked it with a quick beep before making her way hurriedly into the karaoke bar.
She smiled as she was hit by the warm of the place that was filled with warm bodies and much excitement. She glanced around noticing that it was rather crowded and she currently there were three friends up on stage singing together. Many others were crowded about the stage dancing and listening and still more were at the bar and littered about the tables, which were really full.
She wondered what was going on but noticed a banner in the corner over one of the table proclaiming an event over the stage and realized that it would be crowded for the entire night and she might have to slip off to a private room later.
Lily pulled off her coat, scarf and hat and stood dressed in a cure skirt, frilly but sophisticated top, heeled boots and silver stocking. She only worn the outfit once before to the Halloween carnival. She put her things on empty chair making sure to keep her phone and wallet hanging from her wrist and turned just in time to see the trio finish there song.
Lily was quick to take the stage, choosing a song and starting to singing "Just Dance" by Lady Gaga while dancing about the stage and wowing the crowd with her lovely voice. Many more people came up to dance and Lily enjoyed the attention. As far as she was concerned this was practice for when she became a pop star and had to give concerts.

It was young, tonight; younger than Ever had really been counting on, definitely younger than he would have liked. He'd arrived around set up to watch one of the bartenders get equipment together, leaning on the end of the bar and not-yet ordering up a drink. By the time the students started arriving, he was already thoroughly entrenched. He'd made contact three times, and hadn't been driven off yet. Promising.
So the noise didn't chase him off, nor did the distinctly-under-21 crowd. After all, there was a real bar at the other end of the place, and after a drink he found the terribly karaoke as amusing as anyone else. It was all in good fun, after all, and he wasn't one to talk.
After two drinks, the bartender started cajoling. Idle questions about how long he planned on standing around the bar, why he didn't get into the action, one about short skirts that left Ever frowning, turned slowly more teasing, to coax him up onto the stage himself. By the time Lily was done, he had a third drink and had been poked and prodded into taking his turn.
Everything was held up for a good five minutes while he sorted through songs for something he recognized -- easier said than done. When he finally settled on something, it was several years old, overplayed, and had very little singing in it: Linkin Park.
He was terrible. A hundred percent tone deaf and tipsy on top of it, he squinted and fumbled with the lyrics, floundered his way through most of it, and grinned out at the booing crowd as he finished. Whatever. At least hot bartender seemed to be laughing. He hopped awkwardly down off the stage.

Lily frowned up at the stage having joined in the dancing and clapping. Unfortunately she had done so at exactly the wrong time seeing as how the newcomer couldn't carry a tune if his life depended on it. Her ears were sufferring and she was glarring daggers at the man. Why on earth would anyone want to showcase such horrid vocals was beyond her.
She tried desparately to back out of the crowd wanting to be as far away from his noise as possible, but found weaving through the weaving through the booing herd nearly immpossible.
She almost did not realize when the assault on her ears had stopped and was replaced with a softer, shy, sweet voice. She also did not realize she was not in the crowd, but sighed relieved when she did. She turned to head back to her table, maybe search for a familiar face, but nearly walk into him. The one responsible for that travesty of a performance. Her face screwed in anguish before settling into a glare. "Sorry, excuse me," she said, "I didn't see you there." Her polite aire came out as always even if her face suggested the opposite.
She looked at him quietly for a moment before asking, "Have you ever considered singing lessons," she asked, " you seem to be in desperate need of them."
In the background another voice took the mic and started to explain that Hindsight was celebrating a whole month of be open and the the night would be a little different. It would be a party with dancing, drinks, contests and prizes.
Starting with a karaoke contest which the had just a hour to sign up for.

Ever's hands went up quick and he rocked where he stood, as if she had run into him. Tipsy enough to be off-balance, he offered her an even wider flash of a gin, showing off almost every tooth in his mouth, and rolled his shoulders in a quick shrug. It was a moment before he realized the implied insult behind her words, recognized the somewhat two-faced edge to her attitude.
It only made him laugh. "If that's your idea of flirting, honey, you're barking up the wrong tree." His words were only a little softened around the edges by the drink, only blended a touch as he winked down at her, smoothing fingers through the mess of the hair.
"...and I'm probably too old for you on top of that."

Lily frowned seeing the guy seemed not to comprehend just how bad his performance had been or maybe he simply didn't care, either way, it was a little annoying.
Lily did not have time to completely turn the though over as her spoke and winked at her. She did not even get the chance to appreciate the fact that his speaking voice wasn't like nails on a chalk board. No, her eyes widened in horror and her cheeks flushed pink. She opened her mouth to speak and fumbled over her words, " I didn't I mean I wasn't I ..."
She frowned at the next statement her horror replaced by slight indignation. The man didn't even look that old and she certainly wasn't a freshman.
"I'm 17 I'll have you know", she lied, a little one as she would be in nearly a month. "Your aren't so old maybe only a year or two older", she said assured.

Adorable. It made his eyes crinkle helplessly with amusement, and he lingered for another moment instead of sliding past her. He'd intended to keep moving but....
"Few years can be a world of difference." He leaned against one of the nearby tables, eyes flashing just briefly back up to the stage as a couple got up to start singing Journey and then returning to her face. It was about to be loud in here, he suspected.
"Too young to buy me a drink, anyway."

Lily was annoyed by what to her seemed to be an air or superiority. Did he think he was better because he was older. Yes, Lily had an air of innocense to he, but she was mature and well mannered and when it came right down to it if she needed to could appear older than she was. Now, however, her eyes where narrowed as if to say 'what is that suppose to mean?'
"I do not think, where we are concerned, in this conversation, that is to say, that it makes any difference at all," she started before her eyes traveled over to the bar with his statement about drink.
She frowned, "Yes, to young to buy alcohol, maybe, but really would you ask it of a 17 year old." Her eyes traveled to the bar for the teens, the non alcoholic bar and smiled, "I could, however, buy you a non alcoholic drink. I heard that one would do well to pace themselves, not that I would know."

She was young, mature, well-mannered, and likely good. Ever, on the other hand, was older, rude, thoughtlessly-mean, peering over her head toward the bar and trying not to wince...
...but he was also a mooch. Booze would have been amazing, but he'd play teetotaler if it meant free drinks. He bit down on his immediately reply, hauling his attention back down to her and raising both eyebrows in faint question.
"Sure, I'd love a drink, then." It sounded polite enough, but his expression was wickedly amused. Had she even honestly been offering? "Root beer?"

Lily blinked a bit surprised he had taken her up on the other, but the shrugged when he suggested root beer. "If that is what you would like," she said heading for the counter to order drinks for them. She wondered how it is the one person she wished had never gotten on staged was the one person she ended up having a conversation with and buying a drink. It was weird, and her annoyance at the thought was probably marching across her face repeatedly.
When she reached the counter, she ordered a root beer and a sweet tea, before handing over her card to pay and turning to see if the guy had followed her over. She realized she was forgetting her manners, not that he seemed to have any, but she thought she should at least introduce herself.
Behind her their drinks were placed on the counter quickly while the man behind the counter moved on to the next customers.

She could have driven him off or -- or hell, she could have just not offered that drink. But Ever wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth. He followed, but at a distance, leaning against the bar and watching the other tender instead of her, maybe just a lick disappointed.
Once she'd paid, his eyes resettled on her with an almost uncanny sense of timing. He'd managed to miss the exchange of card, any issue of tipping. Careful arrangement had made it so effectively the root beer just appeared in front of him...
"I think you've got the idea of karaoke wrong." It was thoughtful, if still a bit fuzzy, as he reached out to nab his drink.

Lily turned to take her own drink, sipping and enjoying the refreshing feeling after singing a particulary upbeat song. She looked up to see the other boy was looking at her and was about to introduce herself when he spoke.
She frowned at him, "no I am quite certain I know just what karaoke is for," she said in a matter of fact tone, not liking having been insulted by the brute.
It wasn't her fault she had an aversion to noise and apparently to annoying people, but she was trying to be nice and she did enjoy karaoke so at Hindsight she dealt with it, mostyl.

His expression was disbelieving, certainly, with a glimmer of amusement behind it. With some effort, after a moment he managed to mirror her frown: warping it into something more like a pout, comfortably mocking.
"Do you? Tell me, then." Had he even been insulting her before? Well, if not, he was now. And whatever answer she gave him would almost certainly be turned back on her.
"Maybe I'm the one missing the point."

Lily rolled her eyes and gave the obvious answer that she thought anyone would give, "to have fun and to relieve stress. Its quite the cool off after a long day."
She sipped her drink once more and gave him a pointed look, "That, however does not mean that everyone will enjoy or applaud their singing. I for one do have quite the aversion to having my ears assaulted, but I like karaoke and Hightsight, therefore I deal with it until I can't and scurry off to a private room."
She took another sip turning to him fully, "Is that a sufficient enough answer for you ... er, um what was you name?"

"Never gave it, but it's Ever." Maybe he should have offered a hand, bowed, grinned, done something polite -- but instead he just stared down at her, still looking tipsy and mock-pouting, both hands wrapped around his drink.
"And that was a very tidy answer, but, um." The frown faded, no matter how hard he clung to it, the amusement sliding back in around the edges. "Well, I don't think you believe it one bit. If it were about having fun and relieving stress, you wouldn't give me such a hard time about my own talents."
A beat, and then the smile won, teasing a little. He tried to smother it by taking a sip of his drink. "Either that or you're just impossibly rude."

"I'm Liliana," she responded in kind, not letting his stare down effect, though only just because she was slightly, well not so slightly annoyed with him. He wasn't pleasant company and Lily currently failed to realize that neither was she, even if she was amusing.
Lily gave Ever an affronted look, frown marring her face. Who was he to tell her what she believed. She knew very well what karaoke was for, she partook in it for mostly those reason, she just like the thought of her ears coming out in tack at the end of it all.
"It not my fault you awful. I am allowed to have an opinion and for my ears sake I chose to give it. They are still aching from your performance. Choosing to go up onto the stage is choosing to be subjected to the opinions of others, it like an unwritten agreement."
Lily sipped her drink momentarily before adding, "and I am not rude. Not impossibly, not at all."
