Lilias entered the greenhouse and surveyed the plants floating in their baskets, some were doing quite well while others looked like frost had bit them. It is too bad, she thought, that these plants are so finicky, maybe more people would be encouraged to grow them. She sighed and stroked the nearest leaf gently, "Perk up my friend," she told the plant, "the fate of Pern rests with you." She looked out the green house door, surprised to see somebody coming her way, what were they up too? Come to check on the plants as well? Perhaps to pot a new one? She looked forward to the answers to these questions.

Relys strolled down the corridor with his wher Relysk. While at the Weyr their guard duties were pretty minimal. Still they liked to a little patrolling to help out. He found himself heading toward the greenhouses that housed the mystweed plants.
Relysk moved along watching and looking for people. Blue Nald chirped and took off into the greenhouse. He'd spotting someone moving inside and went to investigate. He circled around Lilias.

A blue firelizard heralded the newcomers as he swirled around her she tried to get a better look at him and so was swirling herself around in a circle in the attempt. She peeked out the door again after she had inspected the new, colorful arrival. "Eep," she squeaked, A watch wher, she had not met a watch wher yet, she hoped his handler would let her meet him. This guy seemed to have a thing for blue, she giggled quietly, at least they all matched she thought to herself. She walked quietly over the the door to await the arrival, to impatient and excited to stand the few extra feet closer tot eh plants.

Nald cheeped and spun about on his tail in the air. She couldn't keep up with him! He squeeked loudly to alert His person and wher. Nald was part of the working team to patrol.
Relysk whuffed as he scented and 'saw' the heat of another person. It wasn't one that he knew and he alerted Relys.
Both Nald and his wher Relys sounded the alarm. He wondered who would be in this area. "Hello! Who's there? Announce yourself! I have a wher." Some people reacted badly to whers and Reyls found it best to announce that one was around.
He put a soothing hand on Relysk's shoulder so he wouldn't do more than growl.

"I am Lilias, former fishcraft apprentice, currently candidate, and I'm just checking the plants!" she hadn't thought that they would be alarmed by her presence, so she promptly showed herself to Relys so that everyone could clam down and perhaps some planting could get done, after all the commotion had ceased. She saw the wher clearly for the first time and was at once fascinated by it. He had raged wings, unlike a dragon and beautiful bright blue spikes.
She pointed at the plants as if that would qualify her excuse in Relys' eyes.
She would never do anything to harm the plants but he didn't know her.
"I was contemplating planting another one." she said as well.

Signaling Relysk to lay down in the darker hall, Relys moved into the light to look into the room with the plants. It seemed she was the only one here. He called Nald to come sit on his shoulder. When she said what she was doing, he had to raise an eyebrow.
"You're planting oftly late Lilias. Aren't candidates suppose to be in bed by now?" He checked also for signs of plants that had been disturbed. Relys would have no problems taking her up before the Weyrleaders if she jeopardized any of the precious plants. It seemed as all was in order, or they had arrived just in time to prevent anything from happening.
Nald landed on His person and puffed out his chest. He'd spotted her! Sent out the alarm. He was a good flit!

Hooo this guy was harsh, but she supposed that was exactly what a wherhandler was supposed to be as it was there job. Over her shyness she grabbed a pot, and gave it to him. " Yes it is late, but for one thing, I couldn't sleep and for another thing, these two plants need homes, so I thought I would be productive and support my Weyr in my sleepless condition." she promptly hauled the dirt over, while she gestured at the two plants that were in need of transplanting. She grabbed an already filled pot for herself and carefully removed two hand full of rich soil, placing the excess in the pile she had brought over. "Well wherhandler, would you like to help? As long as your duties permit to play in the dirt a little. If you are overly concerned about my intentions, you may escort me back after I am done with my plant." she reached for the stunted, mottled green thing. And almost reverently snugged it into the dark dirt, packing the edges of the cover.

Relys reached up to give Nald a rewarding petting. He was doing a great job. The wherhandler grinned as she handed him a pot. Well it wasn't like he was really on patrol here. The Weyr had its own guards.
"The name's Relys, handler of blue Relysk you saw out in the hall. Since we're not exactly on duty right now, I was just walking Relysk around. I'd be delighted to help." He came in fully, blinking slightly. Normally he tried to avoid full light during the night, but with Relysk out in the hall to give warning he figured it would be ok.
Relys brought his pot over and half filled it with dirt. "So how long have you been at the Weyr?" He took up the remaining plant and set it in. Carefully he dropped dirt in around the mystweed.

"I've been here for about a month and two sevendays." she answered. Lilias finally smiled at the wherhandler, apparently she had passed judgement and two more plants were going to find homes. She had to admit he was quite deft with that plant, perhaps he had been part of farmcraft before he had become a wherhandler. She was confident that the plant would be in good hands as Relys appeared to be a very responsible person. "Have you planted before? You are very good at it." she commented. She egn to work on her plant again, and soon it was snug in it's pot with fresh soil and all she had to do was water it and set it afloat. She watched Nald for a little while as Relys worked. She liked firelizards they brought such life to a place.

"That's good to hear. You must be settling in well then." He made sure the soil didn't packed too hard around the delicate roots. "Looking forward to the next clutch?" What candidate wouldn't? Still it was a good conversation piece. Everyone liked to talk about hatchings.
Relys chuckled, "no, not me. I'm not around often enough for this usually. It's not hard to pick a thing or two up. Silbakor often liked to talk about his spices special growing requirements and what not." He sounded amused by it. Relys checked his plant and pot. That seemed to do it. The whole process was fairly easy.
Nald noticed the girl watching him and puffed out his chest proudly. He trilled.

"Of course I'm looking forward to the next clutch, I can't wait, when do you suppose it will be?" she asked, he had obviously touched on a popular subject. "What is a wher hatching like?"
"And you would be surprised how some people seem to just look at plants and they die." she sighed, poor people. Lilias grinned at Nald who had puffed himself up. She stroked her plants leaf and set it on the water, released it slowly and gently pushed it toward the others.

He gave a laugh, of course, what candidate wouldn't look forward to the next clutch and their chance to Impress. "I reckon any time now." He tilted his head to consider, "its been over a year since Scarath and Dynith hatched. Keep your hopes up, it could be any time now."
He wondered what it'd be waiting for that clutch and then hoping one of those eggs held a dragon for you. Relys blinked at her question. It had been so long.
"Uh.... well its not like a dragon hatching. Most of them don't survive. And they bond to the first person to feed them. No choosing there. Also, to get a really strong bond you have to blood them." He hoped he wasn't putting whers in bad light. Compared to dragons, whers were.... well there was no comparison. Relysk gave a rumble from the hall.
Relys gave a laugh and mentally soothed his wher. He thought whers were beautiful, particularly Relysk. "True that. Hopefully we're a bit luckier than that." He set the potted plant into the water and set it adrift.

"I hope it will be soon, I heard throught the grape vine that the last Malvren hatching went well, but that was all i heard. And it is sad that so many whers have to die, everyone should be given a chance to live." she sighed. "And what stronger bond is there than that of blood, he is sort of like familiy now isn't he?" she listened to the rumble out int he hall, and asked yet another question. "May I meet him, after we are done?"

Relys nodded. "That's good to hear. It always help people be at ease then things go right. Plus I'm sure all the new riders there are happy too." The young man tilted his head slightly.
"They do, but you wouldn't want to be over run by healthy whers, much less disabled ones. If it helps, the eggs never hatch, so there's no loss." He looked kindly at her and hoped she could understand. Whers were not dragons.
Relys gave a smile. "I would say none, but to hear dragonriders say otherwise." A soft chuckle escaped him. "It really depends on how you look at it. Some pairs aren't that close." He was impressed and gratified. Not many people liked being around whers. Fewer still asked to meet them.
"Sure. Relysk is calm enough to meet people." He flashed a smile. Perhaps if she aged out of Impression she might considers whers. His eyes cast a look over the plants. "I believe we are done now."

"I believe we are done too, and it is probably a good thing we are not over run by whers as I know a few people who do not like them, but people are most afraid of things they do not know a lot about or things they do not understand. Lead the way wherhandler." she smiled and gestured at the door, " I have to close up everything just right so the plants get the same conditions." she proceeded to check the vents and the water temperature in the floating baths, close the door properly and finally seeing that everything was almost he same as she had found it she turned to Relys and his watchwher.
