Hawk Nelson- The Final Toast

The screen fades into a silent, slow-motion recording of a side view of Phoenixfire walking up the ramp as she left the arena her last match with Jarel Damone had been in. The camera angle changed as she reached the apex of the ramp and stopped to look back at the crowd one last time, the look on her face seemingly knowing what awaited her after she completed her journey to the back. Phoenixfire brought her hands up to her face, kissing them before she offered a quaint smile as she waved what would be her last goodbye and turned to face the curtains. With her back now to the camera, what seemed to be a pinpoint of light weaved its way through the curtains and began growing in size at an alarming rate the closer Phoenix got to the curtains, engulfing the Diva as she passed through before fading to black and cueing the audio to tribute that was to follow.

Warwickshire to Fraserville and all between
You have left us here a life of memories
You forever changed the lives of all of us
Who have known you…

A slide show of pictures and video was faded in as the first verse of the song began to play. There were pictures of Phoenixfire throughout her childhood and adolescent years in Anchorage and all things memorable that those years contained for her- the footage her mother had taken of her venturing out in her first snow with all but her red hair covered by winter gear; pictures of her crawling then standing before walking during her toddler years when she was moving from apartment to apartment Anchorage with her elder sister and mother; class photos as she cycled between the public schools of Anchorage School District before a last picture of Phoenix beaming with pride after a victorious win over Landry with the help of Matt Shanahan.

Truth be told this world feels cold without you
You gave all of us a better name

The last picture faded out to Phoenix’s mother seated and holding a picture of Phoenixfire framed with edging of gold leaf, eyes slightly red from weeping over her lost daughter, while her elder sister stood with her hands on her mother’s shoulders and trying her best to comfort her mother in her time of grief. These two were the ones left in the wake of the senseless tragedy committed by Landry, never to fully heal from the impact of what had left an already splintered family in even more fragments than before.

So here's the final toast we raise to you, dear friend
Good times will never be the same
And our thoughts still remain
We'll hold you in your hearts forever and a day
And we'll never be the same
So the last toast that we raise goes to you

So if you ever lost someone that's close to you
Waiting for the answers like the spring to bloom
I hope their tears are wiped away
When they're at the Pearly Gates praying for you
You have made this world a better place…

Highlights from Phoenixfire’s greatest matches and face-offs with her biggest adversaries in every federation were fading in and out on the titantron as the song progressed. The glorious footage of classic Phoenixfire moves like The Descent and Phoenix Flight soon gave way to the harrowing footage from News 3 of the coverage of the discovery of Phoenix’s body near the Route 3 Overpass by a fisherman. It was something that most could agree should never have happened and was a travesty that the guilty was allowed to run free without even a hint at punishment.

So here's the final toast we raise to you, dear friend
Good times will never be the same
And our thoughts still remain
We'll hold you in your hearts forever and a day
And we'll never be the same
So the last toast that we raise

The titantron faded into footage that focused in on the light snowfall occurring in an Anchorage graveyard before moving out to the pallbearers with the casket adorned with gold handles and gold leaf striping on the lid atop their shoulders and separating the crowd of co-workers, family, and friends on their venture down the path to the open grave that waited for the oak casket with Phoenixfire’s remains. The men placed the coffin holding the remains on a stand before the oak coffin was lowered into the grave, leaving the footage to fade out again.

So here's the final toast we raise to you, dear friend
Good times will never be the same
And our thoughts still remain
We'll hold you in your hearts forever and a day
And we'll never be the same
So the last toast that we raise goes to you
The last toast that we raise goes to you

The camera panned in on a group of all the wrestlers Phoenixfire had worked closely with and befriended during her years on the circuits working out of Anchorage and prior to WWFG, singing to an acoustic track of the latest verse while surrounding a big promotional portrait of Phoenixfire which was on a stand in the middle of the group. The camera continued to pan slowly from side to side, catching each and every emotion that the song was pulling from each of Phoenixfire’s closest colleagues. Some were tearing up from the obvious shock of losing someone who wasn’t just another rival to be faced but almost like a sister; while some were facing the reality that Phoenixfire was gone by putting up a steely exterior. It was apparent to all that the life of this Diva hadn’t been merely for pleasing the rowdy males that packed the rows of foldable chairs each night, but had made a lasting impact on the life of wrestlers that came in contact with her.

The footage transitioned into slow-motion again after the song ended and Phoenixfire’s friends filed out of the studio where the acoustic verse was film, leaving the portrait alone in the focus of the camera. The screen faded out all except for Phoenixfire’s face as the birth and death years were crowned by the real name and stage name of the woman the video had been in tribute of before the titantron faded into live footage of the mix of “Thank You Phoenix” chants and teary-eyed fans as the ten bell salute sounded throughout the arena.

A rare intro hit out across the arena after the ending of the tribute. The 44 second intro would come to a stop with lyrics singing out.

You take it all away
But never give it back
And this is what you say
Their lives are yellow-black
And this is how they move
And this is how they sway
That danger is the truth
They die and come again

Another good instrumental break before the chorus of t.A.T.u's Dangerous and Moving played out. It was then that GBL slowly took the stage in his street gear. The blue haired warrior slowly made his way to the ring without a feathered hat, without a mask, and without his Intercontinental title. No smiling, smirking, or showing signs of mischievous behavior. A black shirt with 'The eyes are watching' and on the back 'The Eclipse will never die' along with blue jeans. He walked up the stairs and got into the ring. Of course, he had a mic in his pocket which he pulled out and signaled for the music to be cut.

"I am going to state this right now. I really didn't know Phoenixfire. Probably watched her pass by a couple of times in the locker room, and I didn't even give a hello. A wave at most, but that is it. Watching that video, seeing the friends and family, and the mood set backstage tells me that I missed out. A life was taken early, and it was something that could had been prevented. A murder that is being left un-noted? What started for me as a way to save one life ended with a life being taken. I am use to being involved in insane situations and maddening moments, but I have never been involved in something like this. December Twenty-eight of Two Thousand Five marked my official contract signing. If you would have told me I'd be standing here in this moment now, I would had never believed it. GBL stopped and looked up at the screen. He tapped his foot on the mat for a second before looking out to the crowd.

"A few years back, I was reborn as The Lotus Eclipse. The Eclipse was a force that watched over this federation. When the business seemed to be in a dire trouble, the Eclipse attacked and began a take over to make sure that things did not end. The Eclipse did take over, but someone that I won't mention, Jed, nearly ended my career after and the Eclipse couldn't fully take over. Ever since then, the faction faded away as I remained the original and overseer of this business. The WWFG's Guardian, if you will. I will be a protector, I will be a savior, and . . . I will be an executioner. Someone in this federation crossed the line. On behalf of the friends and family of Phoenix. On behalf of the people that respect and loved her, I will be the avenger. I will avenge her death and make sure this crime does not go unpunished..!" GBL spoke which had the crowd cheering out for the male.

"Listen to my words. My threats will not go unheard. Punishments are to be feared. An end is drawing near. I promise to go through with what I say. The Eclipse will be here to stay. To guard and protect, The Eclipse will resurrect. The fury and intensity that will infect the life that I am to disconnect. The world will see your ending take effect. A cancer that all has neglect." GBL paused and closed his eyes, pointing to the sky. "An ending of a tragic tale will soon befall.. An ending to Mardy and the Heartbreaker, Landry."

"Thank you for everything you have brought us, Phoenix! With your passing, I will keep that fire alive! Rest in peace, my fallen friend, for I will use the fire to burn the cancer that overtook you! I will make a vow for my new years! I will protect this company and prevent another cancer like this, again. After my time is done, Phoenix, I want to see you up there along with the great legends of this industry! The Eclipse is high, but your spirit is even higher than that! I will wait until that they we meet in the clouds. See you in the future, Phoenix. Thank you and rest in peace," GBL finally ended before dropping the mic and taking a final knight bow for her memory. After that, he dropped to his knees and stared up at the ceiling. The crowd's thank yous continue to sound out as GBL remained in place.

A loud yawning noise is heard over the speakers in the arena, and the spotlight shines on the stage where the perpetrater himself, Mike Landry, emerged on the stage.

"Ohhh, i'm sorry, don't let me ruin your sappy little speach there. I just got back from dancing on Athena's grave."

An outraged live audienced drowned him out with a wave of boos, and it was several moments before Landry could speak again.

"Well you know that's not entirely true. I didn't just dance on it. I figured that since one life was taken away, I should try to start a new one...so I made sweet...sweet love to my girl Mardy...right ontop of that mound of dirt."

Which caused an even more hated reaction.

"Oh please, you seem to think that anything you do or say will change in the slightest bit the way I feel about what i've done. What part of 'I am Evil,' are you people no understanding? But that brings me to you GBL...you seem to think that you have the ability to harm me. That you can actually fulfill all of those empty threats you throw around every week. You see, the difference between you and me is very clear: When I say i'm going to do something...I do it. You challenge me every week, but guess what...i'm...still...here. You can't do anything to me, so why don't you just come on up here and get down on your knees, kiss my feet and BEG...for my forgiveness?"

GBL's attention went to Landry with his calm expression remaining. The crowd told the story, and GBL would had joined along if he wasn't focused. Listening to the disrespect, GBL grabbed his microphone once more before getting back up to his feet. He walked over to the ropes to lean forward on them, an arm hanging over the side.

"You are evil, yes. You are also something else, Landry. You are mortal. I figured you would had gotten the message the last time we fought. I did complete one part of my goal. I knocked you flat out with my elbow," GBL said as his arm lifted up and pointed out his elbow. His arm slowly lowered as he began to think. "If I come up there, it will not be to get down and kiss your feet. It will be to overshadow you and show you what my words mean. Landry, I am sure we can turn back the tapes and show your cowardice in our matches. You cannot man up to anything you say against me. The next time we meet, I will remove the Heartbreak Plague from this federation. I don't care if it costs me my job, my title, or my career in general. Not even you will stand a chance against my dance. Petal, Daylight, Moonlit, Lotus, Impact, Brilliantly Maddening! All of these are dances I perform, yet none of them measure up to the destruction on the appropriately named Eclipse. You step into this ring one more time, and I will snap your neck. If Mardy gets involved, I will snap her neck as well. If you don't believe me . . . Try me," GBL spoke out

Landry put his hand up with an arrogant smirk on his face, "Down boy. I have no plans on dancing with you, sorry to crush your fantasy...wait...no...actually I'm not. Its my thing its what I do. You see tonight, I'm going to become the Heart Break King when I win King of the Canvas, and I have a feeling you'll be losing that precious Intercontinental title as well. So when all this inevitably goes down tonight...what makes you think you'll even have the CAHONES to challenge me?"

An amused smile came to GBL as he backed up from the ropes and extended his arm out to the side in a half-cross. "What makes me think that? I told you as I told the world. I am this federation's guardian. Whether I have the title or not, it doesn't matter. Just know one thing, Landry. You have yet to see how evil I can be. See you in the future," GBL spoke as he dropped his microphone and knelt down, watching the man on the ramp.

Landry wagged his index finger and turned slightly as if to walk away, "Like I said Lightning, not tonight...I've got a crown to win, so if you have nothing else then I suppose i'll be on my way then? Next time you'll see me...i'll be your King! SO SAYS THE HEARTBREAKER! SO SHALL IT BE!"

It was if the air went out the same time that the lights to the entire arena were cut. Something foul was afoot and not a soul in the building could put a finger to what was causing it or why but were nevertheless eager to solve the mystery. There was a certainty that whatever it was had to do with one of the two in the ring, most likely the guilty party. The titantron was illuminated after a few moments to allow one lone phrase to grace the silver screen:

"Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown."

Landry looked at the titantron and backed up slightly, reading it very carefully before laughing uneasily.

"Oh that's funny. Oh VERY VERY FUNNY! You got me GBL! Is that some kind of poorly timed mind game? It isn't going to work! You see, the way those work, i'll give you a little lesson because I feel sorry for you, anyway the way those work...is to NOT BE DIRECTLY INFRONT OF ME when you put it on the screen, so that i'm distracted, and you can hit me in the back of the head with the Intercontinental title. Man...you must be really desperate to try something as poorly timed and concieved as that, is that the best you got? Really?"

One could almost smell the fear rolling off of Landry as he reacted to the eerily timed message that graced the titantron screen. However scared the guilty man must've been, one could also tell he wasn't fully convinced that he should be afraid of what could await him as repayment for his crimes. The arena fell silent for what seemed to be only a fraction of a moment before the air seemed to become static and a lightning bolt jumped from one of the displays onto the stage, possibly hitting wiring because the lighting dwindled to almost none upon the stage. The darkness was only temporary before the power was restored but something had been placed upon the stage during the momentary blackout. The spotlight traced across the arena before its rays fell upon a closed casket, eerily identical to the one adorned with gold handles and gold leaf striping on the lid that held Phoenixfire as she was laid to rest. The casket was covered with stray dirt and debris from the gravesite but one thing stood out from the rest- a medium-sized faded red tag with golden font that read 'OPEN ME'.

Landry looked down at the strange casket. He didn't know how it got there, but somehow it ended up right next to him on the stage. He looked to GBL, still in the middle of the ring, and decided it couldn't possibly be him.

Then he noticed the adornments on the box, all too familier to him as he was, as he said, at the sight just moments ago and desecrating it with Mardy.

He lifted up his foot, easing it over before kicking it gently, immediatly backing away in fear of some explosion or gas or whatever fun house trick might have happened. When nothing did he laughed to himself again, bending over and examing the casket like a museum exhibit.

"Cute GBL. Real Cute. Taking a page out of Undertaker's book I see? Well you should know...i'm the first man to make Taker Tap. So you might not want to reference him too much."

Landry turned back to the box and lifted up the lid, peaking inside...
PostPosted: Thu Jan 06, 2011 8:46 pm

The dirt and the debris began to fall off as Landry lifted the lid to find whatever await him inside, as did the crowd with bated breath. How the casket appeared on stage none knew but they were very eager to discover its contents. Had someone exhumed the body as a sick joke to play on the evil Landry for desecrating a grave? None knew but the pillow where the head of Phoenixfire should have been resting peacefully was bare as was the rest of the casket.

Landry's eyes grew angry and threw the lid off of the casket, grabbing the pillow and throwing it across the stage. He then ripped up the sheets and tossed the remains aside. He grabbed the mattress and heaved it up over and down to the floor. He kicked over the casket and tore the sidings off, as if he was searching for the body in any nook and cranny he could find.

"WHERE IS SHE!? IS THIS SOME KIND OF JOKE!? THIS IS HER CASKET! THIS IS HER CASKET! I SAW IT! ONE OF A KIND! IT IS ONE OF A KIND! WHERE IS SHE!? WHERE THE HELL IS SHE DAMNIT!?"

Landry yelled in outrage without the assistance of a microphone as he continued to tear the casket into tiny pieces.
