I was hoping for something new, but they were practically just blue heartless with a different symbol.

The concept is a bit weird.
I'll admit that when I first saw Vanitas, I thought he was a fan-made character.
Then when I found out he was real, I wanted to slap myself for spoiling it.
It wasn't until I played the game that I found out more than just his name and appearance.

I really have no idea why Van looks like he does.
I can guess, but nothing concrete to work with.
I'm hoping it's explained in more detail later.
Or, at the very least, hinted at.
