Xiu felt his temper rising. This was his familiar! Did the stupid boy in front of him not get that? Bai Hu, unruly as he was, remained his completely. Xiu wasn't about to leave the tiger behind in some stranger place just because the boy in front of him was being spoiled and selfish! It wasn't Xiu fault Bai knew how to pick locks. It really wasn't!
"You're insufferable!" Xiu blurted, blue eyes blazing. "Did you think that it might not be easier for me to take him now? You're not the only one who has been up early." His hands clenched and unclenched at his sides and he bit his lit, finally deciding what to do.
"Oh, just get out of the way." Xiu was done talking as he tried to shoulder passed the boy in the doorway. Rude? Maybe. But he was going to get his tiger back!

Huojin rarely felt angry, but he couldn't stand this guy! "Hey, I'm not the one who couldn't keep my pet in check! We keep animals here too, but we don't let them run wild and destroy the neighbours' houses! The least you could do is make things a little easier on me, if you hadn't let him get away in the first place, I wouldn't be having such a cruddy day!"
He was going to shout to Qi, but then the other boy tried to push past him. Blocking his way, he said, "Whoa, whoa, whoa! You can't go in there, you might set something off!" He couldn't have strangers running around in his house, what if they set off a firework or something? As unpleasant as the other boy was, he couldn't give him the chance to get something blown up in his face. Having people walk out of the place with flesh injuries was bad for business, after all! Huojin's burns were a part of the job, but the customers were supposed to always be safe. "What do you think you're doing, you wanna get hurt?!"

"Bai is ten times smarter than whatever you keep here. If they had his brain they'd escape too. He's just a kid." Xiu replied back, practically yelling now. "I'll pay for the damages and I'd also apologize if you weren't being such a jerk!"
Oh, his temper was getting the better of him now. He was not about to be thwarted by some soot covered beast of a boy. Xiu was trying to be nice, but of course that didn't get him anywhere. It never did of course and he wondered if he was EVER going to learn.
When he was blocked, he just got angrier still, pale face flush with emotion. "No, I don't, but it seems you do! Just go and get my tiger or so help me!" Xiu threatened. "If you don't want me going inside, then go and fetch him yourself!"

"And what, leave you down here alone?" Huojin demanded angrily. "For all I know you'll ruin my workshop to get back at me! Just come back later for your tiger, okay, I guarantee you that I do not want him, but I don't have time right now to catch him and cage him, especially not when my brother's taken a shine to him. Look, in a few hours he and your tiger will be done playing and he can bring him over to your house, whatever. You know where we live, we're not going to take him from you! It's just right now is not a good time."
Huojin ran a hand through his hair. "Please be reasonable," he seethed. "I don't want to have to forcibly remove you." Coming from a boy as scrawny as he was, this sounded like a particularly empty threat.

"Oh yes, because it was my grand master plan to come in and ruin your workshop! And if you have time to argue with me you have time to catch him." Xiu was not about to relent on this. Bai Hu was important to him. If anything the little cub was like a brother to him and after weeks of worrying, he wanted the tiger back. Xiu didn't know or trust this boy and his family. What if they sold Bai Hu the moment his back was turned?
The thought of the place where Xiu had found Bai Hu was enough to make Xiu rear back and wrinkle his nose.
"Why don't you be reasonable," Xiu hissed back. "That's my familiar your talking and about and NEED him. I'd like to see a great man like you try and remove me!

Huojin clenched his teeth. He had a headache, he could hear his brother in his room, and he didn't have the time for this, he didn't have the patience for this stupid cat lover and his unreasonable demands! Couldn't he see Huojin had work to do? Huojin still had to clean up his workshop, his workshop that this boy's retarded baby tiger ruined where his own, far superior pets were still terrified.
Huojin hated cats. He hated cats and he hated cat lovers and he hated how many of them there were, and all he wanted to do right now was go out back and explode fireworks until all this frustration went away. He took a deep breath. "Okay, you want your tiger? You've got it! Take the tiger! And my brother! Why not?" He stormed upstairs, grabbed Qi by the collar and thrust him into Xiu's arms. "There's your tiger, in his hands! Take both of them, since he's not going to let go until he's sick of playing with the fleabag! Deal with it yourself! Have fun! I'm going to go work, but oh! Before I go, take our other cat too, so I can have some peace and quiet around here. No, really, I insist!" Reaching down, he grabbed Mao by the scruff of his neck from where he had been twining around Huojin's legs and thrust him into Xiu's arms as well. "Why not! Saves me effort." With that, he pushed Xiu, Qi, Bai Hu, and Mao out the door, hissing, "Have a nice day," before he slammed it shut.
He took a deep breath, rolled up his sleeves, and went to the supply closet. The cats were gone, but he had their mess to clean up.

Xiu squeaked as two children, a human and a cub, were shoved into his arms. He opened his mouth to speak, but Huojin's tirade was on a roll. It was impossible for Xiu to get in a word edgewise and he just stood there like an idiot, holding Qi who was holding Bai. Of course Xiu didn't just drop Qi. He held the little one close and tried to wait out Huojin's blustering as patiently as possible.
He'd thought it had been working until yet another creature was thrust into his arms. The feeling of the house cat on him seemed to break him out of whatever surprised stupor he'd fallen into. He blinked and then growled at Huojin.
"Not just one second! Don't be such an as--" Xiu's shouting was interrupted by Huojin's push and the sound of the door slamming shut in his face. Xiu tipped backwards in surprise and fell right on his butt, somehow managing not to drop anyone in him arms. Thankfully Mao jumped delicately from him, which was a relief.
Staring stupidly at the shut door now, Xiu looked down at Qi with his head cocked. "You're brother is a bit overly dramatic, isn't he?"

Qi wasn't paying attention to Xiu, as he wasn't a baby tiger. He scooped up Bai Hu and Mao again, then bothered to look at Xiu, arms full of cats. Shaking his head, he said, "Bad things happen when my brother's workshop is messy. We're not supposed to go in there otherwise he becomes a monster." He paused, thinking about it, and said, "Not really though, he doesn't look scarier or anything, he just gives me to strangers and explodes things on the roof. This is a bad one. He doesn't like cats." He stared at Xiu for a moment, then added, "I like cats," in a hinting sort of voice. When no more cats were produced, he came right out and asked "Do you have any more kitties?"petulantly, then looked thoughtful for a moment. "And I'm thirsty and I have to go to the bathroom." All his demands listed, he waited patiently for Xiu to do something about it.

Xiu stared down at the child with his arms full of two wriggling cats and wasn't sure what to do. He liked children of course, but he wanted Bai Hu back. However, those big eyes of Qi's made him think a bit differently about simply ripping the tiger from his arms. He sighed heavily, listening to Qi's monologue and nodded to everything that was said.
"I'd offer to help monster Huojin but I think that'd just make things worse." Xiu rubbed the bridge of his nose and stared at the sky. "Well, lets get you to the bathroom first and then get you a drink and then discuss more kitties." Xiu winked at the child and ruffled his head, wondering why he wasn't so angry about Bai being kept now. Maybe it was just Huojin's face that made him mad.
"If you ask your mother if it's okay, I can take you back to the temple. We have a young litter currently and I'm sure my Master would let you have one." He was only offering partly out of the goodness of his heart. He wanted Bai back in the end, but he also wanted to thwart Huojin somehow. A new kitten seemed the perfect way of doing such a thing.

"My mother is dead so we don't have to ask her because it'll be okay with her anyways because she's dead," Qi lied, wanting to get to the part where he got a new kitten as soon as possible. "I don't have to go anymore either, let's go to the temple." He grabbed Xiu's hand and started pulling him in a random direction, figuring that the faster he got a new kitten, the more likely he'd be able to keep it. "Are they all tigers or do you have panthers too," he asked, "Because I like panthers and leopards and tigers but I'm not sure which I like more, but I think tigers since they're less girly. Does your tiger have a name, because I would name him Tiger if I were you, he looks like a Tiger. If I were you I would ride him like a legendary hero and go fight the Nobles! I'm not in the Academy, but my brother is, I'm too young to be a legendary hero, they say." He pouted. "They never let me do anything I want to."
Looking back at Xiu while dragging him, he added, "Oh, where's the temple?"

Xiu tried his hardest not to laugh at Qi, but he was sure a smile managed to poke through. He knew for a fact that Qi's mother wasn't dead, Huojin having mentioned her previously. He also had a feeling that she wouldn't take too kindly to having her youngest carted away by some stranger. So, Xiu ignored Qi for a moment and pulled a pencil and a piece of paper from his robes. He wrote a hasty note and slipped it under the door of the main house. Satsified, he turned to face Qi again and allowed the child to drag him away.
"It's this way," he said. He took Qi's hand and led him down a different path towards the temple. "And his name is Bai Hu. It means White Tiger, so I suppose it's close, don't you think?" Xiu smiled down at Qi, wishing he had a little brother to dote on. "As for tigers, we're fresh out. The litter is one of ocelots though. You ever see one before? It's like a little leopard. The perfect animal for you to become a legendary hero with." Xiu neglected to explain that the ocelots were only halfbreeds and more like huge house cats if anything else.
