This is a private roleplay between Ran [Logue] and Enlei [danse-hexe].

Setting :
The Quiet Roads
Ran occupies his time by telling stories to younger Lunarians. When a newcomer walks in on him weaving tales to her younger brother, what will result from it?

It was like a big, strange forest.

That was what the streets were often compared to, anyway. Ran had pondered it and eventually agreed, although the buildings and winding streets were much less tranquil to him than an actual forest. Not much like the real thing, but he enjoyed the quiet that was not common in places with so many houses. It was better than Main Street for socializing, he thought.

Socializing was somewhat of a rare thing for Ran, but today he had decided to go out and spread some stories around. He hadn't done it in a while and he hadn't had any other obligations, so why not? Seated cross-legged against a dusty wall, the Lunarian gesticulated as he spoke to a small group of Lunarians, a habit he knew he would never shake. Oh well - it added to the appeal of his tales.

"... and that was when my father lifted the bear's body and carried it home." Ran's eyes glittered as he spoke of his father's bravery; he was always so proud of him. "Even though he was covered in wounds, he did not let it hold him back. He would not allow any of us to help him!" He cleared his throat and his voice deepened.

"The bear is sacred! It was I who dealt the final blow. It would be disrespectful of me to pass the burden of carrying what I have done to someone else." The bear hunt, something his family did every year. It was a dangerous task, but they held only the highest respect for the animal, so each male of the Saito clan did it with pride. It also made for great stories, although he had to censor the more gruesome parts for the younger ears.

Storytelling was a pastime of the family, but Ran would sometimes wander out to tell stories to others on his own. In an attempt to socialize more and make friends, Ran had begun telling his stories to others outside of the family. Even though it rarely held any actual conversation, it felt good to be able to sit with people and talk about things. To captivate them, even for only a little while.

Because the crowd had begun to talk, he raised a hand to end the chattering of the younger Lunarians. "No! You should have seen it," he said excitedly. "It was the biggest bear I've ever --"

Not caring that he was getting a little too into it at this point, Ran continued his recount of the experience, hoping to paint as vivid a picture as possible. He told of the snow crunching beneath their boots, the bitter cold of the wind, the way the few remaining birds would scatter from the frozen branches when they approached. Every little detail was significant in making his story come alive, and he displayed more passion while doing so than in any other situation.

A small hand raised in the air, and Ran looked to the child.

"The -- the bear!" the little girl chimed, her eyes wide. "Was it really that big...?" A chorus of murmurs arose from the group; Ran solemnly nodded and stood. Then, his expression growing fierce, he hunched forward and made his hands to look like claws, turning this way and that and glaring around at the group.

"I would not lie!" he growled, advancing on the children. They laughed and screamed excitedly. Ran had to bite his lip to avoid laughing, too; games could be so fun!

One particular child watched Ran with wide, green eyes. Though it was as hot a summer day as any, he could imagine the cold winter forest, almost as if he were there himself.

He felt a chill down his spine as he imagined the huge bear, roaring as it fell at the hands of the furry man's father. It all sounded so exciting; he wished he could see it for himself. He had never particularly pondered the meanings of words, but this man was using them so beautifully, to spin tales that the children were not only listening to, but even.. living.

And then- the man lunged forwards at them, growling- "I would not lie!" and Ruishan found himself tumbling backwards in surprise. The rest of the children were laughing and screaming excitedly; he began to laugh, as well, softly at first, then growing louder as he picked himself up and seated himself back down. The man was grinning, looking so proud of himself. He deserved all the right to be, after all. Whatever else he was, he was a master storyteller.

Eventually, the other children left, some called home by their parents, others hungry and seeking lunch. Ruishan, though, was holding a boxed lunch, and waiting for his sister, so he stayed, looking up at the furry man solemnly- expectantly, hoping to hear another story. Inching closer and closer, somewhat shyly, he managed to squeak: "Could you tell me more, sir? About the bear?"

To tell the truth, Ruishan would have been fine listening to any story by the furry man. He was pretty certain all of them were just as magical and captivating.

A smile lit his face when the children began departing; he felt satisfied for having gone out and socialized, something he didn't do often. A small part of him liked to brag a little bit, too. He had a lot to be proud of when it came to his family's exploits... his own, well. That was a different story that probably wouldn't be worth telling unless they really wanted to laugh.

He shifted the fur on his shoulder - why had he worn that on this hot day, again? - and prepared to leave, but a small child caught his attention. He turned his face to look into a pair of vivid green eyes, and raised his eyebrows questioningly.

Surprise quickly replaced confusion by the boy's request. Generally, his audience was content to only hear the most exciting parts of his tales and move on. Ran crossed his arms and cocked a hip to the side, trying to think of what else he could say to the boy.

"You want to hear more? Well... perhaps I could stay for a bit longer," he mused, offering a sliver of a smile. This time he took the great fur off and set it aside, not concerned over the dust on the ground. The thing got dirtier than his dog on a regular basis; he'd just wash it when he got home. Settling back on the ground, Ran crossed his legs and placed his hands on his knees, sucking in a breath.

"The bear," he said slowly, gaze growing serious, "First of all, you must understand something about the bear. It fought just as valiantly as my father. But only one side could succeed, and it was my father's duty to send the bear back." His eyes adopted a faraway look. "Both deserve all of our respect."

As if he had just thought of something, he became alert again and nodded once to Ruishan. "What would you have done?"
