It has been nulled.

Opinions?

At the risk of sounding rude or insensitive. I dont think it was a good idea to let gays serve openly. Im ok with gays serving but we dont want to know. If a guy said he was gay I would not want to work with him. Lesbians i have mixed feelings about, If they hated men or just thought we was all bad then i wouldnt work with her. If this offends you and youre in the military then youre in the wrong proffession.

Here it comes...

...

.

I'm gay.

I support the decision. No, I'm not offended by anyone's remarks or concerns; that is their own opinion, and they are entitled to it. However, I left the military for this very reason. No, I'm not a coward nor am I a weakling. The military simply wasn't for me.

If they still work just as hard and well as a straight person, it shouldn't matter.

We had a big discussion in my company about this during one of our classes.... basically yeah they can serve but the moment something happens you file a sexual harassment charge and they are done... so in reality they still have to keep it hidden because i don't think they would want their career to end... Cause its real easy to make a sexual harassment charge go through

Seconded.

But...with how it is, there's not much freedom for homosexuals in the military even without DADT. Like what CommandWolf above has said, there's a lot of people that would be quick to file harassment charges if they had the slightest misconception. Even if you were to come out in a healthy fashion, there's just too much BS involved. It's nice that homosexuals can now serve without the fear of being discharged because of something as stupid as a facebook status, but at most, that's pretty much the extent of which a gay person can come out in the military without getting flack from fellow soldiers. Even though they have the right to come out and identify themselves as gay, it's best not to be outright with it, and to separate personal life from work life.

I worked as a jet engine mechanic for 8 years almost. There could have been a ton of charges just in there alone, not to mention from my leadership class or the rest of the maintenance squadrons. It wouldn't matter if you are straight or not, the things said could be taken wrong. Only problem is that straight ppl don't take offense from other straights as much as if it was from a nonstraight person. Which is sad

That doesn't make sense. Straight people can just as easily make a sexual harassment charge.

I have never been in a unit were there were totally feminine men, just like I don't see any totally girly girls in the Army. {{I don't think a flamboyantly stereotypical gay guy would want to join the Military, like a prissy female Paris Hilton type of girl would join. }}

It does bug when when people say they won't work with gays or different ethic groups for that matter.

So as long as the openly gay solider is not a screw up,like a lot of the young straight males that are more typical to get into trouble, then I don't care.

......this has brought out severe discrimination against straight people......
just saying......I am quite a bit homophobic....even though I dont have anything against gays.....lol I just feel that if they change the rules for them they should change the rules for us........

now that the rule has passed
a known gay couple can take each other as liberty buddies to a motel but a male and female cannot.......even if it is well known that they do not have any intention of getting it on......and the gay couple do.......they get liberties we dont.....its slightly unfair...and that is not the only thing

It has not been nullified yet. It will not be officially nullified until 3 months after the bill is signed, AFTER all preparedness training is completed. There is a deadline, though we're looking at another 5 months, 6 months tops before it is actually nullified. As it stands, if you go to your company commander and tell him you are gay, you will still be charged under UCMJ.

If a soldier is gay, so be it.

I am a combat arms Soldier, 19D. I've worked with a lot of people in my unit for the last five years, some of which i believe were gay. A gay person keeps his private life private, much the same way i do, then we're fine. I don't care whether one of my soldiers is gay, muslim, or what have you, be it race, creed, religion, the whole nine yards, so long as it in NO way affects his ability to work.

That said, if i catch him checkin me out in the shower, it would really wierd me out. Same thing wierds me out froma straight guy.

There is still a lot of work that needs to be done with this. You can be a roommate with a gay, and there is nothing you can do about it under current policy. Should there be separate showers? Should people who are wholly against homosexuality be allowed to get out as homosexuals are allowed to get in?

We get to take the fun ride and sit back while our leaders figure this mess out. it worked out just fine with the brits, and i think we'll do just fine too.
