AMITYVILLE ACADEMY ENROLLMENT FORM Name: Jove Nicknames: Dogbreath, Pup, Squeaker, Foxfire, KITTY. Gender: Male Age: ??? (Looks to be somewhere around twelve or thirteen.)
Faction/Race Ghost (Wisp, Foxfire)
Personality: - On the surface, Jove is very quiet. He speaks so rarely that some make attempts to teach him new words, while others don't believe he can speak at all (a rumour surely perpetuated by the entirely doggy behaviour of the average pet foxfire). He attends lessons and follows rules obediently (as possible), only truly causing a disturbance if other students decide to pick on him with a game of chase. He can't help but run if someone tries to catch him. He is an obvious scaredy cat despite his canine affinities and firm determination not to be seen as such, and would often be found in detention for breaking rules when his "Fright and Flight" instincts kick in.
- If someone shows him kindness, he opens up quite dramatically, and can be loyal almost to a fault. Like any canine companion he is quick to defend the people he deems friends, even if his 'attacks' are weak and easily batted aside. Although he will have little to say verbally to his future friends, his normally guarded body language very clearly displays how he feels about a given situation, in a manner that can be startlingly mature for his apparent age. Even with friends his smiles and quickly barked laughter is infrequent. He is caught off guard most dramatically by the people he trusts, although not usually in a manner that will send him running.
- Jove has a good heart, for a ghost, if his tendency to flee could be overcome he could well be a guardian spirit, instead of a slip of foxfire leading people astray. Some good schooling will keep him from getting too messed up in that regard, although he might always prefer scaring lost children back to their family, or terrorizing the family pet to warn the family of danger. ^_^;;
Why are they enrolled in Amityville Academy? - Jove's enrollment was more on his behalf rather than his own desire, but he does take to the idea quite well. Much of his class preferences (as indicated by his pointing) seem in line with his doggy heritage. Emergency Aid (face licking), Botany Basics (digdigdig!), and Illusionary Arts (no i did not eat your sock) all strike his fancy.
FEAR: - LOOK A DISTRACTION! Jove's Fear is a form of illusion, it manifests in peculiar ways that are intended to break concentration, or shift one's focus away from himself. This could be auditory, such as one mistakenly hearing the sound of their name or a crack of a branch behind them, or a visual distraction like a flicker of light in the target's peripheral vision. Rarely it is tactile or olfactory in nature, such as an imaginary brush against one's leg, or a scent that triggers reminiscence in the target. As an untrained student Jove is only capable of the slightest distractions, leaving him tired if he tries too hard, or completely screwed if the opponent isn't the slightest bit swayed by his efforts. He also lacks a good follow-up to a successful distraction, so usually it's only helpful if he needs a head start in running away.
Physical Description: - In his natural form, Jove is a fluffy little parti-coloured pomeranian. He appears fairly solid for a ghost, his pale, ethereal colouration, glowing eyes, and slight fading at the tips of his fur will betray his true nature nonetheless. He'd sooner flee than growl, but if he snarls, his ghostly nature goes a little berserk and contorts his face into a frightening dark pit of glowing eyes, spittle flecked lips, and unnaturally prominent needle-like teeth.
- In the humanoid form required by the academy, he is a scrawny kid who typically wears clothes slightly too big if left to his own devices, hanging off his body with the same weighty look as a wet-down dog's fur. He tends to hugs himself like he's too cold in his not-fur, and keeps his chin down. His eyes are ice blue with a glow when in shadow, his skin the same pale blue as his natural form. His hair is darker, with long bangs that cast parti-like shadows over his eyes, and a pair of stray bits standing out at an angle reminiscent of a dog's flattened back ears. The rest of his hair is short, and a bit fluffy to the touch. He has freckles in roughly the same shade as his hair.
Clothing Detail: Most everything Jove wears is a bit too big, like a hand-me-down, and he's never bothered with socks or shoes. I think sweaters and other loose, fluffy clothing would be his favourite though. Extra: He sticks out his tongue if he's concentrating hard on something. Noteworthy Things
- Like most wisps, Jove's running away can be dangerous for his followers. He instinctively takes the most dangerous/disruptive route in order to shake them off. It can result in harm, even if he doesn't mean it. Only play tag with him if you want him to be "It". Otherwise he'll just run and run and run... D:
- Jove's favourite place to hide are dark, musty crevices. There is a reason he's called Foxfire, his glowing eyes can sometimes be seen amidst the glowing mushrooms he hides with. (He will somehow cultivate these same mushrooms under his bed. It's like a comforting frightlight for the pup.)
- Jove seems older than he looks. Mentally he is comparable to many older-looking students, although sometimes his quietness and lack of response (usually over-controlling his body language out of wariness or fright) could be mistaken for slowness.
- He doesn't have much control over how his Fear manifests, so it can be quite specific to the target. ((Roll for strength of distraction, opponent RPer picks how it appears to their character? =3))
- Jove, being a rather solid ghost, is more likely to wear clothes than manifest them himself. He is also likely to wear clothes other people give him regardless of whether they are too big or not. Wearing clothing is one of many 'hobbies' the living have which Jove seems to enjoy in spite of his incorporeal state, like sleeping at night, taking real baths, and eating food.
- Although he doesn't remember his death, his ghostly body does. The left side of his torso in humanoid form (and in his natural form under the fluff) is dark and mottled, like a bruise that never heals. When Jove is injured, it's this area rather than the actual site of the injury that is likely to show damage, and a good impact to that side seems to have the same effect on him as knocking the wind out of the living.

History behind the Ghost
Although Jove recalls nothing of his former life, it nonetheless shapes his preferences and behaviour after death.
Once upon a time, there was a little puppy. It was small and fluffy, not much bigger than a mitten when it came to live with a cheerful old man. The two were best friends right from the start. The little puppy was called Biscuit.
As the puppy grew up, he enjoyed every minute with his person. But when he was old enough to climb stairs, his person was getting too old to hobble up with him. When he was big enough to jump into his person's lap, the old man was sitting in a wheelchair. Biscuit learned how to scramble up onto the bed without any help the night his owner passed away.
The next day strange people came in, and took the old man away. Biscuit ran after him, slipping away from hands that chased him, into the wide world where he was struck down by a passing car.
Thus he passed on not long after his person, and was escorted to Halloween by the not so friendly neighborhood reaper. As a little fluffy ghost, he wandered nameless through Halloween Town for a long time. With no memories left to him, he fled from any hands that tried to grab him, until he was finally caught in an enchanted lobster trap by an elderly British vampire who's cellar he wandered into.
"By Jove! Wot is a little wisp such as yerself doin' in 'ere?"
Mistaking the exclamation for his name, Jove was handed over to the academy where he began his afterlife.

Notes~
Companions
- Jove is most likely to react well to certain types of people, like those who can accept his company without needing to actually carry on a conversation. Or those who are fine with a one-sided conversation. - If someone gives him clothing to borrow, that is an automatic +5 to their likeable levels as far as the pup is concerned. (Make it a shiny, new, rolled leather collar with a silver tag and he'll be wrapped around yo- wait. D: )
Less Likeable Sorts
- Jove isn't very fond of loud people who make startling noises and sudden movements. They are unpredictable at best, and teasing at worst. - He has a hard time with touchy-feely types who would try to touch him without reason. The whole hand-reaching thing just freaks him out.

I love his pictures.. first of all. He's ADORABLE. And even in scary mode.. STILL ADORABLE!
I also love the little story about his past that you typed up!
I only wonder how his painful shyness may work out for him. How does he distinguish scary people from people who just may be a little aggressively outgoing? How willing is he to make friends and how easy will it be to RP him socially such as in a large group RP? Would he just tag along silently, noticed or not?
I sort of like the 'lame' FEAR he has and I think it compliments him well. How will his FEAR progress as he learns in school?

Jove sounds adorable! But I do have a couple of points to make:
- While in school their pins force them to keep the humanoid form, so I don't think he'll get many detentions from that...but I'm sure there are other ways. >>; - Being the strong silent type is adorable, but I do have to wonder at this point if he is mute? Does he just prefer to make gestures over speaking? If he was frustrated enough with a situation, would he pipe up?
- I'd be careful with using illusions for FEAR. I do like the auditory/peripheral light distractions idea, but I think, for now (and unless a GM/Mod says otherwise) it might be a good idea to stick to one or the other as a 'main', and perhaps use the other one for a particularly successful roll? That way it's focused on one, and also gives Jove a chance to shape up. It's been said before, but FEAR should be thought of like a pokemon attack!
I hope that helps!

Jove does sound rather adorable. XD I'm highly amused with how he got his name as well.
For communication... he doesn't really speak but at times will he attempt to write things out? Or just try to convey it all via body language?
That's all I can think of at the moment. o-o

Thanks guys for the input. =D (Edit: WHOA WALL OF TEXT.)
Regarding the shyness, he's perfectly fine sitting quietly with students who are likewise quiet, or inclined to talk at him, but even a more outgoing student would only really get wary eyes from Jove. XD It's not until someone reaches towards him, or turns threatening/aggressive that he would run. He would be an easy friend for someone who wanted a minion, or a sounding board, or a puppy friendly tag along to share their mischief with.
In a large group, he would still be pretty quiet and not even close to leading the charge, but that doesn't mean he won't want to interact and be a part of it in his own way. ^_~
The pins was something I wasn't sure about, but even without poofing back into his original form, running through hallways and disrupting classes would be a big issue for him. XD
Jove isn't really mute, it's more just what he's used to. He doesn't struggle to get words out in any way either, like stammering or writing, gestures and body language is just how he communicates. But he does use his voice infrequently, and will give others his name, or bark out a "No!" or "You!" if the situation calls for it.
As far as his illusions, when I came up with the concept I was originally imagining something like a pokemon's Teleport. In a casual situation it would allow him a head start in his running away, except for when it fails. XD In a more forced-battle-type-situation, it would simply function as an attempt to get the opponent to miss, or do less damage because they weren't 100% focused at the time of their attack. =3 With the auditory/visual distinction, I figured a successful roll would just make the distraction something that's harder to ignore, rather than affect the modality. I'll get a modly being to look this one over though, and get it worked into clearable status. <3
As for how his Fear grows with school... I think it would be a combination of his Fear getting more potent, stronger and more captivating distractions, and himself becoming more capable of using the distractions to his advantage. I'm not entirely sure though if the distractions themselves would cause damage at a high enough skill level, or if there is just a default attack he can use once the target is not paying attention.

"So a mummy, a witch, and a zombie walk into a bar..."
"- I've already heard that one."
"Okay okay wait, I got another one. So a ghost sees a mermaid and says-"
"-I've heard that one too."
"Wait wait wait! I bet you haven't heard this one! So this old vampire sees a lady walking down the street-"
"-Please... please just stop."
An audible thunk could be heard coming from on top of the desk. Unfortunately the precarious ten-foot paper pile on top of said desk did not survive the onslaught as the entire office began raining application papers, student assessment forms and what was this - minipet claims reports?
Both the Shredder and the Acceptance bin squealed - or they would have if they had vocal cords - as they began a mad dash around the room, gobbling papers like Halloween Dinner until a single paper was left, still fluttering downwards, in slow motion.
The Shredder looked at the Acceptance Bin. The Acceptance Bin simply slammed its bulk on the ground back in challenge. It would not back off. Both animated pieces of office supplies made a mad dash towards the last floating piece of paper, there was a mad scramble, squeals, shouts, and grunts, as finally, from the dust pile, the Acceptance Bin emerged victorious, snapping down the application form - Jove the Foxfire - in one satisfied gulp.
The Shredder whimpered.
