The waterfall had frozen creating a curtain of ice which shielded it's small, secret alcove from the world beyond. Euthyphro had frequently hidden away back here when the waters, while cold, still flowed freely. He'd grown a fair amount since then though, and it was now rather reckless of him to come back here into this space which had once been so spacious and safe. Here and there water dribbled down the ice columns and the sides of the cafe. He found himself unable to keep the water from touching him and it was all to eager to freeze to his feathers, both hoof and wing.
He frowned, but kept going, hoping to find an area large enough to relax for a little while. Large enough to take some time to think without worry of collapsing ice or freezing water. It was not a wide waterfall, though, and the longer he spent back there the more he realized that so long as the waterfall was frozen he would not be able to find his tranquility there.
He paused, taking in a deep breath of the icy air. There was no point staying here any longer, but he couldn't turn around. He would have to travel straight through to the other side... So long as that side hadn't frozen shut. The glint of his charms drew his attention and he frowned again. One of the ones near his neck was missing. Perhaps rubbed off on the ice as he squeezed in or fallen into the snow as he walked by the river. So long as it hadn't fallen off in the cave. Repeating this trek behind the waterfall was not something he was eager to do again.

There was a river around here. She knew there was. She'd seen it before. It was topped with a beautiful waterfall. Ravyn frowned as she circled around the area. She knew this was the right place... Her sense of direction never failed her. The waterfall was around here. So why couldn't she hear the roar of the water? Frowning, she circled around again, going lower this time. This was the right spot. The water was just frozen. She sighed and landed anyway, moving close to inspect the ice. Maybe it wasn't frozen very thick.... She knew it had to be though. The waterfall wouldn't have frozen if it wasn't. Sighing again, she kicked the water fall with her hoof. It didn't even crack. It did dislodge something though... Something small and golden. It fell and slid over to her feet and clinked against her hoof. A little surprised, she dipped her head to look at it. Was that... a star?

Euthyphro had nearly reached the far end of the glittering tunnel when out of nowhere a sharp noise seemed to make the icy wall vibrate. He jerked at the sound and a sharp pain came from a back wing. At first he tried to pay it no mind, thinking it was only his imagination, a shock from the sudden noise. But he felt a warm, wet substance on his side and each time his wing touched the wall he felt the pain anew. This was not his imagination. Now he needed to get out of this cave more then ever.
Bracing himself, he started to try and squeeze himself out of the last distance into the open.

It was a star! She stared at it for a long moment. It must have been a hair ornament, but where had it come from? There was no one around that she could see. Frowning, she picked it up gingerly with her teeth, and moved to carefully tuck it into her sash. It seemed a shame to just leave it there. It was a pretty little star.
Outside of the waterfall the ice remained smooth and whole. The grey mare had no idea what was happening behind the frozen curtain.

He freed himself from the cavern. Stumbling forward he tried to catch his balance but only managed to slip and fall into a drift of snow. "Fantastic. Excellent," he muttered out loud as he pulled himself back up to his feet. Thankfully he was fairly certain that no one had witnessed that particular moment of gracelessness.
He shook off some of the snow, but had to stop when the pain once again returned to his wing. This was no good. He just hoped he'd be able to fly.

She heard him on the other side of the fall. Her head snapped quickly in his direction, the frown on her face intense. There had been no one present when she had landed, and she did not appreciate the sudden appearance of someone now.
Whirling around, her lip curled back. "Who goes there?" she called, her voice loud and demanding in the quiet winter landscape. Her eyes found the offending intruder, and she fixed her piercing gaze on him. If he made a wrong move, she would be gone in an instant.

The expression of 'oh s**t' on his face was impossible to miss. Someone had just caught him making a huge a** of himself. Then again they were calling out so maybe they hadn't seen much...
"Just me?" he called out. "Who are you?"

Her eyes narrowed as he spoke, but he seemed harmless. Still, she was keeping her guard up. She wasn't going to get blindsided.
"The messenger Ravyn. And you are?"

"I am..." a messenger? That was an odd way of introducing herself. Did he need a title too? "I am the philosopher, Euthyphro?"
Had he done it right? He wasn't sure. He stretched his three good wings, then gingerly, the fourth. It hurt, but he was fairly sure he could fly on it for a while at least. It was only a flesh wound. The blood had stopped flowing of it's own accord and it seemed like opening the wound would be his only real concern in flying. Short distances then.

A philosopher? She tilted her head, studying him. Hm.
She watched him stretch out his wings. One was obviously injured. She couldn't help but pity him. Her wings were her prized possession. She ruffled them unconsciously, still watching him. "Well, hello then philosopher."

He tilted his head the other way. Guess it had worked then.
"Hello messenger," he smiled folding his wings down over his bloodied side so that she would not have to look at it. "What brings you here on such a drab day?"

"I was looking for water," she admitted, taking a few steps toward the frozen water so she could see him better. "I knew the waterfall was here, and I was hoping because of that, the water wouldn't frozen. Unfortunately, I was wrong." She sighed, looking over at the cascading ice. It was rather pretty, with the way the water had frozen in the waves the fall created, but that was besides the point. She hadn't come here to marvel in the beauty. She had came to get a drink.
