Phantom of the Shrub Captain

The title says it all:
There are many characters in the many versions of our phavorite story that are overshadowed by the trio, but deserve a time to shine. Everyone loves and knows Erik and Christine...and a few love Raoul...But for a few exceptions, all the other doods bite the dust and are just largely ignored. gonk
Who cares if they only had a 12 second part? They are still POTO characters dammit! And they need the lovin's!
So, every week or two, we will celebrate an underloved character of Phantom of the Opera regardless of whatever version it is. It could be anyone! If you'd like, please contribute by posting a character that you particularly love, but isn't Erik, Christine, or Raoul so they aren't important. xp
It'll be fun, I promise! whee
A table of the contents.
-1st post: In which the strange but ultimately harmless Phantom of the Shrub explains the meaning of this thread.
-2nd post: In which the character of choice is loved and showered with a lovin's by having a whole post dedicated to the character.
-3rd post: In which past characters have had the spotlight and are still being celebrated for all of eternity by having their dedication posted here, but not being celebrated as much, as they are no longer in the second post.

This week's Phantom spotlight character:This week's spotlight character is Gerard Carriere, father of Erik in the Yeston/Kopit version of Phantom. He was a love/hate sort of dood; nice and protective of Erik, but didn't tell him that he was his father until the end. Then they had a lovely song over it, as Erik was not mad at him for keeping the truth from him for so long and actually suspected it. And if I can remember correctly, he also was a bit of a dork because he was married, yet he had an affair with Erik's mother. That's never nice. gonk He was also cool and awesome, because in the cast recording I have of this wonderful version of Phantom he reminds me of Sean Connery. Love and spotlight for Gerard Carriere! heart Thank you. whee If you wish, please feel free to post comments of dedication and what you love of this character. He is awesome and deserves it. 3nodding

She says a line like that twice. Not to mention she almost gets to go meet erik but her mom stop her. Have to say she can sing too. I loved how at the end she picked up the mask. Yeah she's my favorite character. That's mostly from the movie. I could go on about her in the book too but Ranting isn't cool.

GC is a strange one. At once, you like him becaus ewithout him, there would be no Y/K Erik. On the other side of the coin, he had an affair without telling Belladova he was married (Grr! scream ) Then, he kept Erik is a hole and never mentioned he wa shis father until the end because he mentioned that someday he knew he would have to leave Erik behind. WTF? But, Erik IS a genius and figured it out on his own. Good show Erik! Anyway, GC is a jerk for a;; the above stuff, but at least he gave Erik a dignified job and DID look out for him and take care of him, so, some brownie points are earned there. Some.

The persian!! Especially in Kay's novel, where he actually has a NAME *gasp*, Nadir Khan. So cool. Erik's only friend in the world. Even if he does help Raoul... oh well. He only did what he thought was right. Such an awesome guy! And the poor guy got left out of the musical... such a pity.

Unfortunately, I'm not a big Y/K person ._.; All I know is what I've heard from others. Isn't it supposed to be based on the mini-series, though? Or is that the other way around? Or am I just really dumb? DX
But yay for Gerard anyway!

I've seen them both, but I didn't like the mini-series so much as I was expecting singing (I loved the songs in the musical version) and there's basically none of that. sad It's still pretty cool though. Yay Gerard Carriere! whee
